This cant be just our shop seeing this
eastendpowerstroke replied to Tony302600's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Your welcome Keith /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/king.gif It's cool huh I did that on a econoline short bus I knew I had at least one bad injector but was not willing to pull the glow plugs to perform the "balloon test" in full so I tried that and you have seen it works. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif -
LCF BUZZ BOMB FLASH?
eastendpowerstroke replied to eastendpowerstroke's topic in 4.5L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Jason the biggest problem with the re flash is the annoying post buzz, not one F-Series owner/driver was happy about there truck buzzing for 30 sec after shut down and I can't imagine LCF owners/drivers liking it much either. I know I wouldn't like it. Last time I spoke to a WARM LINE guy I was told that the LCF re flash has inductive heating and the post buzz but I haven't bothered to verify the preheating. -
BTDT last I knew you gotta buy the whole thing FWIW if you have a customer without RKE that wants RKE the kit is plug and play. I had an LCF that we got back from the body builder the sales manager was in a frenzy because it had no fobs come to find out after a kit was ordered that it never had RKE, I pluged the module into the harness at the lower RH side of the dash and presto RKE.

This cant be just our shop seeing this
eastendpowerstroke replied to Tony302600's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
That brings up another quickie, I found that if you use a rubber tip blow gun stuck over the tip of the injector watching the screened portion of the injector for bubbles to figure out what injector to keep. -

I had used the balloon test many times with good results but honestly I do mostly use it to isolate the bank of injectors I am replacing. I find that the fuel filter trick is AWESOME because I can see the little bubbles in the fuel much faster that it takes to move a balloon. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif -

Mustang engine replacement...
eastendpowerstroke replied to DamageINC's topic in All Gasoline Engines
I do most all FWD cars and the escape like that. The mustang with a 5spd can be easy from the bottom but with an auto it's about 50/50. if you do an auto from the bottom don't forget the torque converter nuts before you drop it out. -
Quote: YMMV I need that translated Jim The first time I replaced a FICM was my own personal trucks FICM craped out a little over a year ago. I was driving along and the truck just shut off like someone turned the key off,It didn't restart for about two min's then was fine I was quite low on fuel so I chocked it up to some crap in the tank and got fuel. the next morning it had a long crank before starting and running normaly, as I turned into the shop it shut off again but wouldnt restart, no codes passed buzz test does every thing the WSM says it shouldn't do but still wont run. I replaced the FICM and it started and still runs fine. I think I've done three or four FICMs total since.

My parts guy recently asked me if I had any of the ICP/EBP connectors around because they called them back!!!I had to hunt in every dark corner missed by the cleanup guy for two of them and cut one off an old harness.

Bad DPF's, injectors, fuel pump harness's,and egt sensor's just to start. So much for the "100k + miles of "REAL WORLD" testing" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif -
my Daughters B-day is Dec 16th, we usually do a small family only thing on her b-day and a Friends party in January after the Christmas dust settles. My son's Birthday is in July.

Sorry Bruce I can't add a lot to this but I did notice that you didn't say if the fuel tanks were drained/flushed as well as some of the basics like fuel pressure. It would be a shame to spend all that time only to find out that some minor step was skipped. If you need any help down there let me know

eastendpowerstroke replied to LARRY BRUDZYNSKI's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
