Primary Radiator
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Thanx Brad. It's on page 2... didnt think it was that old. I am losing it. -
Got me a 2012 550 in that needs a primary radiator - leaking on the left tank... where have I seen that before? I started reading the manual before I was interrupted so I will have to get back to that when I get the part but I was wondering if any of you fella have one one? I swear somebody mentioned this in a post somewhere but I can't find it. Something abouapproachingng it like a 6.4L and not necessarily removineverythingng but peeling back the layers and extracting the rad.

6.0 Manual Transmission Oil Pan Removal
Keith Browning replied to fordboy1987's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I had an incident with a 6.0L automatic involving a floor jack... I did not remove the transmsion to replace that oil pan. I jacked the engine up and out it came. -
There is a different kit for the econiline... the filter housing is different.

Absolutely correct Mr Jim. I doubt many technicians ever give thought to being liable for injury, loss of life and property damage.

05 Econoline brass shavings in the oil filter
Keith Browning replied to joshbuys's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
You know, one of the only brassy parts I can think of are in the HPOP... sensors... thinking out loud here -
I would think that any place gasses can be released pose a potential hazard for runaway engines... the Alberta oil patch for example. Remember that oil drilling can produce gasses.

Obviously not a FET circuit.

At least all of the nuts and bolts came loose like it was new. They even broke some body fasteners and left off a few bolts off which saved me a couple of tenths. But I lost that time scrounging around for replacements.

This is a case where the valve install has clearance when shutting the hood in the bay but not when the engine is under load and torque pushes the engine toward to hood. It is too bad that your efforts in trying to inform Envacon went they way they did. Perhaps sending the truck back to the installer for a warranty repair might get attention.

Jim if you are motivated to do so you might contact the manufacturer of the valve/system and let them know about this issue. I went to their website and read up on the device. Looks like they are in Alberta.

Yeah, like a few grams of C-4 under the right engine mount should do the trick!

I have seems some bad stuff over the years but this one takes the cake. Our parts department recently sold a 2001 7.3L long block to an outside shop. They installed it and got it running. They quickly discovered that the engine was leaking oil from what they could tell was the HPOP gasket. I was involved by telephone for some unknown reason... the mechanic on the other end sounded like a whiner: "oh man, that fuel filter and the pump are so haaaaard to get to." They were advised that they could repair it themselves and put in a claim through some parts deal. The van endeded up in my bay via a flatbed. (loser) So I proceed to perform the oil leak diag with the already installed dye in the oil, and apparently the coolant too. No shit! We have a coolant leak as well. Hot damn! I had to start pulling things off the engine and take a different look at things. First, I found the reservior cracked with no evidence of an impact or other damage that might explain the defect in this part. After removing the water pump I verified what we suspected was a crack... in the front cover. Again, no marks or evidence of how it got that way How the fuck does this stuff end up in a REMANUFACTURED engine? Is this really a typical example of the parts we sell and install? What is worse, in looking at the front cover with the water pump out, it looks like it has a lot of corrosion, a little rust accumulated in the nooks and crannies and some really weird un-identified white crap. Mind you this engine has probably less than 1/2 hour running time on it. I was advised that I could make the necessary repairs under SPW... the engine is all but out of he van, parts are ordered. I wonder what else this engine has in store for us! NOW I know why they dip these things in so much paint. If you can't polish a turd you can always coat it in 1/4 inch of paint!

Hillbilly grits!

+1 on that!

If the ICP sensor is leaking it is likely also providing compromised data. This could explain your erratic ICP I would make that repair first then re-evaluate your cranking condition before you go nuts. By the way I personally have never seen that style of ICP sensor leak and maybe a handful that were (in-range) biased. We can usually detect a biased ICP sensor by looking at the KOEO voltage, looking at your IPR rate can also tell you something is not right. But you know that. The extended crank and surge might be related to a bleed down condition starting to develop. How do you know that you have no high pressure leaks?

Water pumps get easier after you do a couple... they just piss you off when you look at them and think about how stupid the design is in that it reaches across the entire front engine cover. Like they couldn't cast the coolant passage into the front cover and have a small pump like all of the other recent Ford engines?

05 Econoline brass shavings in the oil filter
Keith Browning replied to joshbuys's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Just ran into a similar situation in that you cannot, and should not be ecpected to, make an accurate diagnosis and repair recommendation until you definitively identify the root cause. The oil cooler is a no-brainer typically, but the metal in the oil filter housing, now there is something to sink your teeth into. Some disassembly IS required here. One additional thought though, I find it odd that two trucks from the same owner have the same problem with metal in the oil filter. -
And my Dad smoked for 30+... quit maybe 20 years before he passed. We watched him suffocate to death after 3 bouts with a respiratory infection brought on by exposure to dust and mold, each time severely weakening is body. What got him? The emphysema or the mold and dust? Does it matter? Be careful Jim, God might accidentally nudge a Super Duty off your hoist... oh the irony if it were to happen. Please note that I do not wish for that to happen of course. Wear a fucking mask Mr. Safety! You are taunting me arent you. I would bust Matt's chops about continuing to use an un-safe vehicle hoist but you are doing an awesome job!

That would be best.

Well that is progress anyway. So what is the TBC concern?
