For me the video not oly displays a lack of teamwork, it also depicts the immature and unprofessional behavior too many of our colleagues display. It only takes one of these guys to disrupt a shop and make a dealership look bad. With the advent of the Internet and cheap digital cameras, it only takes one of these guys to make us ALL look like immature and unprofessional clowns. If this video is presented as "slapstick" then it makes sense but is still does nothing for our image.

We have one of these little gems from powerpusher.com and it is bout 20 years old now. I thought it was finally worn out but we resurrected it again into working order. They are not cheap but considering how much it gets used it is worth every penny. Yes, it moves F550's too. They have a model that can move 100,000 lbs, see the website.

I was just sayin, sheeeesh!

Have you ever considered PUSHING the truck into the shop with this kind of failure?

Hydraulic Clutch.
Keith Browning replied to JAKE_MORSE's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
A loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago I took an old clutch master reservoir cap, drilled out the vent hole and installed a brass nipple to accept a small vacuum line. The hole in the cap extended though the rubber seal to allow vacuum to be pulled on the system and still seal the cap to the reservoir. This worked in similar fashion to a cooling system air lift tool. This was before Ford offered the hydraulics pre-assembled, filled and purged. I recall having many F650/750 trucks in with clutch problems for a while and the pre-assembled parts were a Godsend! -

6.4 turbo removal
Keith Browning replied to fordboy1987's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Good point Mike. So far that has only happened once in our shop. Fortunately not to me but seeing it reinforces the need to be careful when placing the turbo back down on the engine. -
6.4 turbo removal

You DID remove BOTH hold down clamp bolts right? After that, they somethimes stick. I suggest a prybar. -
My service manager just got a creer change....

It is no matter what type of injector we are talking about. If it has a sleeve it's pretty much all the same as your picture shows. Keep debris out of the cylinder, prepare the sealing surfaces and use the installation tool with the recommended sealant. It's all the same... though I have never seen a sleeve with an o-ring! Hope it went well.

Low DEF warnings on 2012..
Keith Browning replied to lmorris's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Yeah, the ex-owner of our company was just in... I added three gallons and the DEF indication changed to full. We are almost convinced that he screwed up and said "let's keep an eye on that!" -
If you are doing this with the cylinder heads on the engine toss a dime and some grease to hold it in the bottom of the cups to prevent shavings from the removal tap getting into the cylinders. What injectors are in this engine? Are they similar to a C7?

The old owner of the company rolled in today with this 2012 6.7L for a DEF concern and also mentioned a noise when he shut the truck down. So we looked at it and sure enough you turn the key off and wait a few seconds, you hear what sounds like a couple actuators click then a chattering/hoot sound starts then slowly dissipates. It is vacuum bleeding down and if you put your hand on the wastegate actuator you can feel it. Anybody run into this? I am not sure if it's the actuator itself or something else causing vacuum to bleed off and it is resonating through the actuator. He was waiting and I didn't have time to mess with it...

2013 Ford Transit Spy Photos: So Long, 1975! New Diesel and Twin-Turbo Haulers On the Way I like the "Mystery Diesel Confirmend" comment. I guess we will be adding a new forum to the engine forums before long.

Almost. Usually the guy you see sitting near the entrance or exit is borderline pathetic. No insult on old people intended but I think older people who want to keep working to stay active should not be sitting on their asses on the job... as their job.

2008 F-250 Flames Out Of Tailpipe
Keith Browning replied to mchan68's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Fast forward us in the WAYBAC machine and things never really got outta hand with this issue did it? Oh, we did have a recall that brought some trucks back today. Reason for the post: So I am attending a mid-range engine combination certification training class this week and we got onto the the exhaust aftertreatment part of the course. First, let me say that Cummins is years behind that we have become accustomed to. Second, I showed the instructor and the class the video of the 2008 truck with the exhaust flames coming out of the exhaust. The instructor had only heard of the incident. It was worth a good chuckle from everyone. The instructor impressed me in that, as amused as e was to see the video, he is mindful and respectful of the fact that manufactureres miss things and make mistakes. Then the topic turned to the recent Navistar news concerning SCR... Whooooops! Mind you, Cmmins has had their fair share of mistakes as well. Interesting to see things from another perspective. -
Wal-Mart? Don't knock it Jim. They hire a lot of Senior citizens.

The trick to that is post your resume on every on-line job site... Most companies monitor those sites or have accounts for posting help wanted ads. Every month or so, "refresh" your resume so it bumps it.

Looking for external hard drive?
Keith Browning replied to batmantech's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Depending on how much data she needs to back up a large capacity thumb drive might be best. I do have an external hard drive that I use to back up selected folders and files and it works well. The off-site backup services seem like a good deal as well and reasonable priced. If this data is really important that might be the best option of all. -
6.8 long block coming with oil in it?
Keith Browning replied to YukonTyler's topic in All Gasoline Engines
On that note Bruce I recall a couple of instances where Ford had identified the affected vehicles and issues bulletins to replace the incorrect indicators and tubes. I don't think that one or two part issues should dictate a bad practice for all engines. -
Non OEM Scanners

Mason, I assume your shop has the Navistar diagnostic equipment - will that communicate with any Ford engines made by Navistar? -
6.8 long block coming with oil in it?
Keith Browning replied to YukonTyler's topic in All Gasoline Engines
I had a tech working with me on my team years ago that installed a 5.4L long block in a truck. He also installed 6 quarts of oil... and never checked the level. When he was done he wasted over an hour trying to diagnose the rough idle until he gave up and I had to step in. I adjusted the oil level and handed the keys back to him. I didn't tell him how I fixed it for a few days. Oddly enough I am involved in a discussion over at the monkey house and some jackass insists that what the engineers specify as the capacity is what goes in the crankcase. I contend that putting 15 quarts into a 7.3L, 6.0L or a 6.4L during an oil change will result in the oil level exceeding the full line. Same for dumping 13 quarts into a 6.7L. I simply suggested putting in 1 quart less than specification then "adjusting" the level with the last quart. I must be an asshole for suggesting that we should fill any component or system with the appropriate fluid to the PROPER LEVEL. Are people really that fucking stupid that they don't understand that? -
That would look good on my resume. Can I use it?
