I had to replace a fan clutch in an E-Series ambulance with two belts and extra crap on it. As I began removing the radiator I thought this was ridiculous. Warranty only pays 1.8 so I tried something different. I pulled it out from below. [*]Remove the upper and lower shroud. [*]Disconnect the right tie-rod and steering dampener at the bracket and lower the drag link out of the way. [*]Remove the steering dampener bracket from the right frame rail (three bolts) [*]Place an appropriately sized piece of cardboard behind the radiator to protect it. [*]Remove the two upper fan stator bolts loosen the fan clutch and spin it off. [*]With the van in the air remove the lower stator bolts and lower the stator and fan together. Change the fan clutch... water pump or whatever and reassemble in the reverse order. DO NOT FORGET TO REMOVE THE CARDBOARD!

This is probably impotant to make note of. Jun 20 2012 4789 -6.7L - DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) PETROLEUM CONTAMINATION DEF TEST STRIPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FROM ROTUNDA UNDER PART # 328-00012 OR 328-44-863. THIS NEW TEST STRIP CAN BE USED TO DETECT PETROLEUM BASED CONTAMINATION WHEN DIAGNOSING DEF RELATED SYSTEM DTCS WHEN FLUID QUALITY CONCERNS ARE SUSPECTED. PC/ED IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING UPDATE TO INCLUDE THE USE OF THE STRIPS. DEF SYSTEM FAILURES THAT ARE CAUSED BY PETROLEUM BASED CONTAMINATION WILL REQUIRE THE COMPLETE DEF SYSTEM TO BE REPLACED. CLEANING AND REUSE OF DEF SYSTEM COMPONENTS WILL RESULT IN REPEAT REPAIRS. THE NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY DOES NOT PROVIDE COVERAGE, AND REPAIRS ARE NOT REIMBURSABLE UNDER WARRANTY, WHEN DAMAGE RESULTING FROM THE USE OF CONTAMINATED OR IMPROPER FLUIDS ARE USED. Oil Dilution...
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Okay, I finally had time to sit down and read the 2011 Owner's Guide and there appears to be two different warnings, well three to be precise, two for oil change and the other for oil dilution. [*]ENGINE OIL DILUTED (diesel engine only) — Displays once the engine oil has become diluted and needs to be changed. Refer to your diesel supplement for more information. [*]ENGINE OIL CHANGE SOON — Displayed when the engine oil life remaining is 5% to 1%. [*]OIL CHANGE REQUIRED — Displayed when the oil life left reaches 0%. -
Oil Dilution...
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
But this is also a contradiction. Is the message center providing the owner with a service reminder or an oil dilution warning? This automatically implies that there is something wrong with the engine and when there are unknown variables like the oil weight, HOW MUCH oil was put into the engine and how long it has actually been there. -
So, yet another topic at the monkey house about oil dilution... oil sampling and the Oil Change Required warning on the IP. Apparently in the service manual it is listed as oil dilution warning. Really? So the question was asked about the oil dilution levels when the warning comes up in the dash. The nice helpful chap Cory from Ford replied: There are two oil warning lights that show up. First one is at 7.79% oil dilution where the message in the cluster is “Change Engine Oil Soon”. The second one is at 8.2% oil dilution where the message in the cluster is “Oil Change Required”. Okay. For me this raises more questions than it answers. How is this calculated? And, well I remember being told that the oil change messages were calculated by mileage, engine hours, Idle hours and load... or something like that. Ohhh my brain hurts!

THis is nothing new either. I have some bus companies around here that do have a Ford Fleet account and are able to do their own warranty work. I am sure that all comes with the necessary training and tool access so I am sure Dustin is spot on with this.

Well it was only a matter of time. My Snap-On tool guy came into my bay all bubbly today with these little gems. It's a set of 6.7L injector line sockets Kit # YA1140 containing the long socket #YA1140-1 and the short socket #YA1140-21. They FIT and they are designed to clear the plastic housing and fuel return line avoiding damage to the injector. $79.95 USD

Why mess with the manifold if you don't have to? You can knock the little rivets that hold the clamps in place with an small punch. The holes go all the way through the bracket and are staring you right in the face. It's not hard at all to get the new clamps in there. I have done enhanced short blocks that came with a nice kit containing every gasket, hose, seal, bolt and nut needed. As I recall all of this stuff was individually packed with part numbers including the clamps for the hoses.

"Built Without Your Tax Dollars" Ford T-Shirt <---- LINK! I wonder if this is a Ford authorized and licenced product.

Replace it NOW! If it gets worse it will destroy the engine and it is doing damage to the aftertreatment system.

How Many Hours Do You Folks Work?
Keith Browning replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in The Water Cooler

I have done the barbaric pry to break the bolt head off - did not work as described and ended up destroying the pedestal. I use a torch now when all else fails. A good turbo socket is worth its weight in gold however!!!
-
Yes it will be

With new rocker assemblies on both banks we lost the popping but still have a dead hole on #8 and low relative compression on #1 and #8 and smoke. Looks like after a compression test we are goin in.
-
THe only time I have ever seen that code was with a bad fuel sender.
-
That was the thing for me. I really didn't need to spend money on anything in the catalog because I didn't have enough points to get anything or anything worth getting for what I had. If I had been taxed I would have been pissed. I hope you didn't get me wrong Jim, I have no problem with being rewarded or winning something and I think its great that Ford does that but sometimes even a gift comes with a price tag. And where are my manners? Congrats Leon!

06 F-250 intermitent dead pedal, wrench light
Keith Browning replied to Mekanik's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
If we consider all of the input devices relative to your post you need to look at the EVTM and discover that there are two VREF circuits involved between them all. If you could verify the low voltage on both VREF circuits it would point toward a bad PCM... PCM power or ground fault. -
Here's a question. Can you return the gift? Here in the states we had a program where you earned points... for what I couldn't tell you and the points were "worth cash" to be used in some catalog. I recall the last card I was given my balance was 10 points. WTF? If I had been issued a tax claim I would have been pissed. I threw my points card in the garbage. I am not suggesting to throw away an i-pad. I would probably turn down the cruise but Ford doesn't do that anymore so the point is moot.

Okay, worn down rocker tips. #7 exhaust rocker fell apart. God I love this engine.
-
Trouble with what? The converters... or the studs?
-
Did we learn something the hard way today?
-
Why it's the metal cupcake God of course!

Had anther one towed in popping from the intake. I wonder what it could be? It will be a few days before I can get into this one because we actually have some work in progress now but it's the same every time... worn rocker tips resulting in broken/displaced rockers. This truck is used so the likeliness of a seized valve is very low. In fact, I haven't seen one of those in a long time now. We service this truck regularly so I know it is not neglected.
