So our new owners are beginning to bring new accounts to our location and it starts off with the NYFD account and a Dodge ambulance on a chassis cab unit comparable to a F450/F550. Had a broken fuel return line at the 60 gallon aft-axle fuel tank... which is PLASTIC by the way. No rust there. The truck has a Cummins in it. Nice engine, truck looks far less rugged than a Ford. One thing I noticed was the rear suspension was ripped out of it and it has an airbag system that not only adjusts ride height but allows it to squat in the rear. I know we discussed this in the past related to the demise of the Econolines and diesels. I wonder if we might start seeing more Fords with this type setup on F-Series chassis in the future. That Transit Connect looks like a weak platform and I cant see a full bodied ambulance on that platform. Maybe Ford will come out with a usable Medium duty chassis for such applications. Heck I see Navistar ambulances!

HPFP fitting leak testing
Keith Browning replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
And for the benefit of those not following this... we had a thread where we discussed leaks at the Viton o-rings for the LOW PRESSURE lines at the HPFP. Some guys were getting leaks there. Two things I recall were lubricating the seals before assembly might help eliminate leaks and there was a question about the lower torque spec on the nuts. Just sayin. Nice post Brad. -
Short Term Fuel Trims
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Not bad Chris. I even tried driving it with it off just to see if I could get something to happen. As it turns out these engines have no power at all when you do that. -
Anything you set your mind to as they are ultra portable and mountable. The Hero 2 is also an excellent 11 MP still shot camera as well. As for now, I will use this thing for both personal and professional reasons. Look for future technical videos and better images used on this website in the future. This particular model is regrded as the best digital camcorder on the market.

Purchased the Hero 2 Motorsport addition this morning $270 on Amazon!!! Also found a class 10 32GB SD card for $52. Booyah!

Kinda supports the long held thought that "mechanics" are the underlings of society and that it's a profession that requires little skill, aptitude or talent. Where have I heard this before?

So I fill out a prior approval form and submit it. Hot-Line's response was: "our records indicate that the vehicle is modified. Please inspect the vehicle and update the form with all noted modifications." Okay. The truck has a cat-back exhaust. This is nothing to get excited about. Nothing else goofy going on, that I can see. OASIS is not flagged. So I asked for elaboration on the modifications because I think I should know since I am the one losing time trying to diagnose the truck and such details "might* be helpful. No response. So why even bring it up?

So I had an '08 truck in this week with P0284 and P2002 in memory and the MIL on. The tailpipe was crusted with soot. The owner complaining that the MIL comes on, there is a loss of power and the truck smokes badly. (black) It got a new DPF. The truck was road tested several times without incident. I performed all of the required tests for the cylinder contribution DTC including TSB# 08-16-7 to LOAD test the injectors. Relative compression, fuel pressure, cylinder balance... all fine. Short term fuel trim on #8 is +12. I was always told by the Hot-Line that anything over + - 10 is a red flag. They dismissed it. Declined approval for an injector - which I feel in my gut has an intermittent issue above and beyond the fuel trim. This is all well documented on the RO and on the Prior Approval form. I don't want to hear it if this thing comes back with a bent rod or a washed down cylinder on #8..

BG EGR Cleaner

Always accepting of different experiences and results. Thank you for sharing your experience. -
Looking at the optimistic side of things this recall gets vehicles into the shop and onto your lift where you can perform a Quality Care Inspection and sell some needed service work while it's there. I think I did TWO brake jobs last year. I would kill for a Super Duty recall that puts trucks on my lift right now.

Or, the paint will prevent the oil from leaking anywhere near the source and come out on the other side of the engine. Have fun diaging that one! Not that I would wish that on anyone.

That BEGS for an explanation. I am not refuting it by any means, I am just curious as to the how and why.

P207f Exhaust Fluid Contaminated
Keith Browning replied to Gord's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
And as a reminder concerns directly caused by the fluid are not warranty. -
Sounds like something you definately need to keep an eye on.

I am not clear on what "locked out" means. For me, being unemployed is not an option. Having my pay cut in half is also not an option however it is better than nothing while I look for employment elsewhere. Is going back to a dealer not an option for you or have you had it with that? Nice to see that youare still alive.

You might consider running the pinpoint tests for the DTC if you only performed the TSB. I am not sure "looks and smells" is a sufficient test for DEF quality. DEF has a shelf life of two years. However, this can be reduced if the fluid is exposed to direct sunlight for a long time or if the temperature of the DEF remains above 77°F (25°C) for sustained periods. All DEF packaging should be labeled with the expiry date. When was the last time the tank was filled? You may need to empty the tank and install fresh fluid to be sure unfortunately... unless you have a tester. We also discussed the Rotunda 335-00001 DEF tester in THIS TOPIC some time back. My dealer never bought one. -
Anybody have any experience on GoPro camcorders? They look excellent and not too pricey.

Ahhh it's the freakin AP sticking just off idle. APP is 1.5% when it is acting up. I wasn't using APP which also shows Part Throttle. It's amazing how that affects starting and idle quality with such a minute glitch.

Where in the harness, at the sensor? I performed a wiggle test at the 15 pin connector but nothing showed... I have yet to pull the valve cover thought. My data recordings do not show any erratic voltage readings that might indicate a short or open circuit concern so I am not thinking this is an issue, but it's not to be ruled out I suppose.

No but I have one in right now with a slightly elevated idle, occasional low idle, no DTC's and runs perfectly otherwise. All checks and PIDs are good EXCEPT RPM/RPMDES (1100/640) and LOAD is a little low (6%) I just need to recheck the AP PID before proceeding... for some reason I did not have that selected. But if the AP was showing anything but closed I would expect to see RPMDES above 640, idle spec. Then again my expectations could be wrong... have another truck to compare with. To me it is acting like a 6.0L with a biased ICP. FRPV = 0.5 volts KOEO but I have seen more than one ICP sensor look good at KOEO and be pooched.

Any of you guys ever run into a biased FRP on a 6.4L?
