  1. I know I have taken the cover off with the turbos still on the engine but has anyone done this job with the cab on and trans out? Looks like a better option. Just want to hear experiences... No, I simply wont take the turbo off with the cab on. I wont do it.
  2. Well shit, if ou guys are running out to NAPA to get parts then wouldn't you want to start stocking the parts you are running out for?
  3. Well if it is necessary all you need to do is state that and why on the repair order / claim.
  4. The pumps were indeed wrapped inside the frame rail. Funny way to describe it but it's almost accurate. I recall having to replace one and it was torture getting it out and back in.
  5. Anyone remember the late 1980's F-600/700/800 medium duty trucks? Ford had two diesel engine options for a few years that were Ford branded Cummins engines. They were 6.6L and 7.8L but the engines had a series designation the began with the letters "FD" followed by four numbers. Does anyone know what those engine designations were? My brain is starting to focus in on "FD 1060 and "FD 1460"
  6. I was kinda thinking the same thing. The best filter that fits these engines is the one that Ford recommends and fits in the OEM cap. We stock caps; oil and fuel. OUR customers expect genuine Ford and Motorcraft parts and fluids when they come to a dealership. Why would you offer anything else? I know other parts exist and most are fine to use but, that would be like going to a steakhouse and asking for a Big-Mac. Also, I don't see the the things that Brads pictures depict as a part concern as much as it is an installer problem. If you have to pry a filter from a cap with ecxesive force and not question why, you might be a knuckle dragger. If you are not thinking about what you are doing well enough to inspect the filter housing for debris or broken filter or standpipe parts, you might be a knuckle dragger. If you are changing a customer's oil filter with one that has an integral cap and you throw away the OEM cap with complete disregard for the vehicle owner... YUP! You are a knuckle dragger.
  7. Eeesh! Probably a defect in the bolt but that is no small fastener to have fail.
  8. If I recall it is considered "normal" for FICM voltages on an E-Series to drop a little. Not a significant amount though. It could be because of the wiring as Greg mentioned. You might also consider checking the battery cables by performing a voltage drop test. Also, did you LOAD TEST the FICM power and ground circuits?
  9. Butane ain't hot enough son. We are not talking about softening up some thread locking compound or melting a plastic bolt retainer cap. Corrosion requires HEAT. Acetylene heat directly to the nut!
  10. The WSM states to use an IMPACT gun? Have they changed the cage bolt design? For the record, here in NJ the two front body bolts are almost guaranteed to spin if the truck has gone through at least one winter. I can get a headlamp out and heat the nut cherry red in about 5 minutes and they come out like buttah with a 3/8" air ratchet. Do you Canadian tech's call it a 10 MM air ratchet?
  11. Maybe Ford could chrome a VCM for you!
  12. Leon, got to ---> http://www.cutepdf.com/ and download the free PDF converter. Once you install it, you use it like a printer, you can scan documents, write documents etc. and when you are done you go to print like you normally would but before you click print you need to chose CutePDF writer as the printer. Then click print and the images or documents open up CutePDF and then you can save as PDF file from there. It works great! I upgraded to the PRO version.
  13. I took the pump off and the cover is in perfect condition.
  14. Chris I have heard of this too but the coolant level was good. Perhaps pulling the water pump off and having a peek anyway is in order just to be sure. The engine hours has me more concerned though.
  15. Thanx Jim. That is the one I saw but it says nothing about gasoline specifically which is what I am looking for. I don't recall ever seeing anything in "print" except for maybe a Hot-Line reply.
  16. Fred I have my father in laws generator which is enough to get the sump pump running. A backup system for the house would be nice but I haven't got the coin to spare for that. Times are really tight now. We got whacked here in Mount Olive with about 8 or 9 inches that fell really hard and fast on Saturday and loaded up the trees rapidly. We have a ton of downed trees and power lines. Driving anywhere is a gamble with roads blocked off and detours here and there. If this had only happened a week or two later when more leaves were off the trees this nor'easter would not have been a problem. Still no power - 4 days and counting. Hopefully today will be the day. Kids have no school again and Trick-or-treating was postponed until Saturday. Could be worse... at least the town is not on fire or under water. (knock on wood)
  17. I know there is a fuel contamination job aid but is there anything in writing that states that the entire engine fuel system MUST be replaced on a 6.4L if it was run with gasoline in the fuel? I know I have be told by the Hot-Line but somebody is requesting something in writing and I am coming up empty at the moment.
  18. On the trck bar I use a large Channel-Loc to compress the joint. I have seen as much as 1/4" play
  19. Okay, it's day three without power. The house is cold and quiet... well, when the kids are quiet it is. I also have water slowly leeching into my basement because the sump can't run. Interesting week ahead for sure. After the power went out Saturday I went outside and there was that deadened quiet you get when it is snowing. All you could hear was the distant sound of sirens and every 30 seconds a branch or limb cracking and falling off the trees. Schools are closed and driving in to work today was eerie. Every neighborhood is dark, some streets are unplowed or have trees and downed power lines blocking them off. This sucks. I have yet to see an active police vehicle, Power Company vehicle or tree service vehicle. I realize that this is an extraordinary situation and it is going to take time to clear things up and repair power lines and restore power but WTF? No police presence? I am mystified. It's just odd.
  20. My kids are are watching the snow fall and I think they are going to pop! Then the subject of Halloween came up and their faces got long. I don't know about them but I am dressing up and will be scaring the fuck outta the neighborhood bastards on Monday night!!! I just might have to break out my Killer Klown outfit. I am sure my daughters will be out of the door before me.
  21. We have an October snow storm hitting us here in New Jersey and there are still a lot of leaves on the trees. I am up high enough to get as much as 8". This is going to be an interesting weekend. Maybe fun too. Trick or treat!
  22. Ahhh, I ain't so damned after all.
  23. You know, a LITTLE thought goes a long way. Not wiring from the cab to the chassis or a body on the rear is not always acceptable or practical. The use of CONNECTORS solves this issue.
  24. Seriously? Well I'll be damned!
