  1. Okay so if you have spent any time in ANY other diesel forum you will undoubtedly come across discussions on system cleaning... silicates... scale... coolant filters... coolant types and so on. There are some good points and ideas floating around but after thinking about what I have seen I see VERY little discussion on regular testing and maintenance. It seems that many people are discussing what to do once they have a problem or perceive to have a problem but very little talk about maintenance. You get the common responses of using a filtration system or switching to ELC.
  2. Ever see the mosquitos in New Jersey? If there is a place in the USA where carrying a gun is needed it's here. Those suckers are so big they should be the state BIRD!
  3. My dad was a big model railroader for most of his adult life. He filled two basements with big layouts. I have all of his rolling stock in boxes in my basement.
  4. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
  5. I like the dog. If he can't eat it, or fuck it, he pisses on it. I can get behind that.
  6. After the straight oil manifolds went away and we switched to the wavy manifolds it was easier to use the ICP sensor hole or the HPOP plug for Econoline. You need to make an adapter for the 303-966 test fitting. I used one of the plugs from the HPOP kits which is also serviced with the STC replacement kits. All you need to do do is drill it and tap it to the threads on the test fitting. I ground mine down a little on two sides to allow a wrench to be put on it to install or remove.
  7. I don't know the true answer to this question but it does not seem as though much has changed with the beds on these things. If I were in your position I might grab a tape measure and start doing a little measurin starting with the bed bolts.
  8. Persoanlly, I am looking forward to "not remembering" certain things.
  9. Thanx for posting that, I thought Mike's message was poignant and reflective of our industry as well. In fact, I am going to add that video to the DTS video page. "It's amazing where a little bit of poo will take ya if you are willing to crawl throught it."
  10. Say, a 2008 E360 6.0L... Mode 9 data, is the "IGNCNTR=" value the same as engine hours?
  11. Yep, they did. But your math is fuzzy. 1995 was only 16 years ago! (sorry, couldn't resist)
  12. Not to mention that if the clerk is shorting YOU she is also shorting the DEALERSHIP on money you both rightfully should be getting paid. I think even Ford would agree that as long as you are following the warranty guidelines and the repair is legit you can use all applicable op codes. Ii am ware of the warranty n umber game. I don't agree with trimming claims just to keep reports where some zone manager thinks they should be.
  13. Sounds like you are goin after the new modern style... which should prove to be a preference decision only. My wife likes the fridge on top with the "French door" and freezer on bottom as do I. Having only purchased one fridge in my life time so far I am not necessarily impressed as I have had to replace the starter for the compressor motor, the ice/water valve is kaput and recently the evaporator fan motor let me down. I repaired the first and latter myself and we drink bottled water so the ice maker and chilled water remain inop. I have been under the impression that as with most large appliances in North America there is but one or two manufactureres assembling for all brands so it makes little sense to make a choice by the name on the sticker in my humble opinion. If you have ever gone parts shopping you will discover the guts fit just about every brand. Sorry if this is of no help.
  14. You already are Sir! Thank you for serving our great country and protecting people like me. I am glad you got it fixed.
  15. Right there is the problem. Let me guess, this warranty clerk is NOT employed by your dealership?
  16. There seems to be an issue with shock absorbers on these things. I heard that many of the returned shocks had valve problems. This truck is waiting for a second set. Waiting because there is no stock ANYWHERE except Detroit. That kinda says something eh?
  17. "Presto!" That's awesome! Presto! There goes my productivity for a week. They ought to sell a "special ESP" to technicians who work on these. Technician ESP = Extended Salary Protection
  18. I agree on all points. However there seems to be hints that indicate that there IS something going on in the DPF beyond filtration. Like I said, I wish FORD would expand on this in the literature, but in reality I guess "we" don't need to know. I will say that when you look at the entire system it is amazing how clean the result is. Could you have imagined this 20 years ago? AND, there is no need to concede my friend, this is a discussion, not an argument.
  19. I thought I had read somewhere that the DPF is impregnated with something to cause a chemical change... don't remember where but it was similar to what Bruce posted above. If we want to dumb this down and be semantic about it as well, we can apply another definition of a "catalyst" to the DPF in that it changes the composition of the exhaust gasses by physical removing the particulates and then converting the hydrocarbons in particulates into ash. catalyst n 1. (Chemistry) a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself suffering any permanent chemical change 2. a person or thing that causes a change One thing I wish Ford would do is offer a better description of these components, even if it means baffling us with chemistry and engineering babble.
  20. The Workshop Manual describes a DPF as "The DPF is a highly engineered silicon carbide wall-flow catalyst that traps particulates."
