  1. Anyone notice this guy's video was removed? I wanted to see if his new claim has any validity... This should be a quick one. Dealing with a bad repair job. Another thread explains. But I am going over the engine today and notice the wiring harness for the tansmission was sitting on the turbo and the wires were melted. About how long would this take. I got it back from the Stealer. Drove it 20 mile before I had to have this towed. I am now in contact with the owner of the stealership and I need a little info before I get him and his service manger on the phone. Thanks.
  2. Good point. Okay, so it that three things going for it and one against.
  3. The oil drain plug gas a lot going for in contrast. It is slightly cone shaped, has loose and aggressive threads and is well lubricated. Time will tell. Before I saw one in real life I thought Ford was going to make the drain plug more spigot like similar to a Fumoto valve.
  4. Jeff, I think the point is the engine was misdiagnosed and not repaired... along with missing fasteners and a broken dipstick that was not installed properly to begin with. I want to know how the vehicle was released to the guy running the same way it went in there. I would have at the very least let the customer know the dipstick tube was broken and replaced it upon his approval. At least the fact that is was broken would not have been a surprise if he had declined it. Another thing to note is that in this day and age your bad work could easily be on display at Youtube. One more thing. It only takes a few technicians doing work like this to make us ALL look bad.
  5. But why do you single out "the dealer" Mr. Amacker? Above video aside, I have had a lot of trucks fall in my lap after a private shop bastardized repairs. It's an INDUSTRY epidemic not to omit what some do-it-yourselfer's are capable of.
  6. So did you re-check comperesson in that cylinder after replacing the injector and injector cup?
  7. I came across this at TDS forums today. What a shame... but I get the feeling there is more to this story so it will be interesting to follow where this goes. This is a good reminder to be and do your best and what can happen when the Fuck-up Fairy exposes you. Read the comments on Youtube below the video HERE and if you are interested read this topic on TDS forums. Dealer Says I need a new engine
  8. That's a trailer hitch? I thought that was to secure a bike rack! LOL!!
  9. This time and last we waited days for shocks. That's going to help get a good survey now isn't it! The one's I ordered today are coming out of Memphis Tenn. God forbid they stock them elsewhere!!!
  10. The last one I did I also contacted the mother ship who recommended inspecting the rest of the rockers. Good advice. More than half were either worn to the point where the tips no longer pivoted smoothly or not at all. That truck got all new rogkers and pushrods. (push tubes for you Canuckians)
  11. I always used the theory that wheel studs and nuts should always be assembled clean and dry and ideally torqued to the correct specification. Through the years I have seen many vehicles where someone has applied anti-seize compound to the threads. Today was a first when I discovered lug nuts coming off with difficulty due to the application of threadlock. If either practice was beneficial or required wouldn't the manufacturers apply either (conflicting) compound? I have never seen properly tightened, clean/dry lugs fail and am of the opinion that neither should be used. I also think that applying either during assembly will affect the torque readings and actually promote over tightening and damage to the fastener. What say you?
  12. We have recently had two 2011 Super Duties in for uncontrolled shaking after hitting certain bumps at highway speeds. Both have had bad front shocks... you know, the Motorcraft shocks with the Rancho stickers on them? Any one else seeing this?
  13. Well, I don't like to air my dealer's dirty laundry so I will stick to the basics. Our service manager has been out 5+ months fighting medical problems. The "car/retail" foreman just got de-throned for a variety of reasons. I have watched many excellent technicians quit, largely due to this man. From what I have observed is that techs start out pissed at the lack of hours (regardless of the reason) albeit the economy, lack of customers or vindictive dispatching. Then morale goes down causing the very things Bruce listed - a list I can see as being very much the best description I have read. So, my dealer is about to hire a new service manager, not sure if this is permanent or temporary... but a new person with different ideas and approach may be just what we are in need of most. Having what feels like NO leadership at all is worse than lack of appreciation, stability and low pay combined. For the first time in my career I am scared about my job and career. As bad as things are right now, most of the dealers and service facilities in my area are not in much better shape basically leaving few options even if I were to entertain a move.
  14. I LOVE those assholes. Thats when I pull along side another car in the next lane and stay there.
  15. I remember 7.3L water drain valve problems long before ULSD now that I think about it.
  16. I got myself involved in a discussion at the Monkey House concerning ULSD and rubber parts in older Ford/International diesels. My impression is that: [*]it has not been an issue from what I have seen - tough I don't see many older trucks now [*]rubber parts for older trucks manufactured in recent years would be ULSD compatible So I am just curious if you guys have seen or read of any ULSD comparability issues with the older Power Stroke and IDI engines?
  17. Interesting questions Jim. Correct me if I am wrong, our industry tends to see high turnover rates in the dealerships. In my store I have always observed money as the number one reason technicians come and go. Second is the inability to get along with managers. Managers either have their heads up their asses or their hands are tied by upper management preventing them from fine-tuning their service departments and making things work. I would love to hear stories about this from as many members as possible. Since I have worked for the same dealer group for my entire career, I have no personal experience in job bouncing.
  18. You are going to have to beat Jim to it!!!
  19. Hey, shit happens. I see this 6.7L HFCM drain becoming a problem. As simple and seemingly well designed, something just isn't right with it.
  20. Yep. I have done a handful of filters on 2011 trucks. On the second one I had the same problem you are having until I discovered the water drain was open.
  21. Friggin thievery isn't it? If I recall a lot of the connector pigtails are in the $70 range. I guess you have to consider pigtail connectors a specialty item and still cheaper than a new harness. And I don't know of an aftermarket source that would be useful to us... doesn't mean one does not exist though.
