While EGR cooler leaks tend to clean the EGR valves they tend to become sluggish and sticky as wet carbon/moisture works up on the shaft.

Okay, now I see... difference. Duh! 1 degree Fahrenheit = 1.8 degrees Celsius. So, 4X1.8=7.2 Late night flat-rate reading strikes again.
-
What conversion? 4 degrees Celsius equals 39.2 degrees Fahrenheit.

I would like to know that as well. Without a level sensor in the oil pan I imagine the answer is that the PCM is looking at something that is affected by the high crankcase condition. If we think about what happens when oil levels rise: -may affect crank speed and show up in the signal -may cause higher EGT readings Thoughts?

I did two today. I think I can walk on water now!

'cause it's too hard to drive 100 feet up the street to my shop. -
I guess those guys are here in Joisey? Answered my own question. They are right here in Wall Township on 34. Your neighborhood?

I think my shop's IDS has all kinds of problems like you mentioned. My wireless is all but useless now and Sometimes My personal IDS does weird shit. I just loaded IDS 71 Friday and it updated the VCM first thing. Not unexpected and the process completed. Later in the day I was doing a PMI on a FICM and the damn thing started to update the VCM right in the middle of it and locked up!!! WTF? I had to shut everything down, reboot and start the process over which happened without incident. Seriously, somthins up!

Yeah, but which one? I prefer to use voltage but I do like to see PSI's as well and why make both avaialble?

This begs the question; What is that truck supposed to perform? Don't get me wrong, I get it. It is a modern day form of hot-rodding. For me it's not the trucks that make me laugh, it's the idiots that open their wallets to any company or Internet site and bolt on any and every shiny part just for the hell of it or because some jack-off on the Internet said "you need this."

The man speaks truth. The last time I renewed I waited two months and when I did I only had 10 months until it expired again. Not sure how I feel about that. If I let my Better Homes And Gardens Magazine subscription run out and resubscribe six months later I am still getting 12 months of new magazines. Following Ford's logic I wouldn't be able to read the issues I already have right? "Well you still used the tool." So what. I BOUGHT the tool and I paid for the current software that is in it.

That would be valuable right now.

From my experience you can continue to use it but eventually you will not be able to program modules unless you install an update and update the database. There may be more to it... if someone knows...

You didn't say what you did with the EGR valve.
-
When you were cleaning the unison ring did you inspect the control slot for wear?

Yes, those turbos are CUTE!

Am I the only one experiencing this EVERY time I open this valve to service a customers 6.7L equipped truck? I was so happy to see the new HFCM when these trucks came out and thought finally, they got this right. NOT! I notice that the valve seems to stick or is difficult to turn and perhaps this is causing the o-rings to distort or twist??? I removed this plug and applied some silicone dielectric grease to the seals and it operated as it should. I hope I remember to observe this the next time this particular truck returns to see if the greeeeezin actually worked. If I were an owner draining my seperator in my driveway I would be PISSED! Fuel running down my arm... all over my driveway or garage floor as I lay on my back... Same shit, different model year.

Pretty much the consensus is that Dodge trucks are a pile of shit and from what I see in my shop I think "they" are right. Ironically I was reading an article on the heavy duty trucks and most diesel owners shop for the engines first and the vehicles second. Safe to say that Dodge owners LOVE their Cummins engines.

When I started this topic I was curious as to where it might go. As usually not too many members express an opinion. For the sake of the topic, it is not about the owner or the trucks themselves really. It is about regulations and the lack of follow through that doesn't seem to support the clean air laws. The tuner manufacturer for example prints a warning and a disclaimer on the box and in the user manual. Their job is done. After all they cant police what vehicle their products are installed in and well, it's not their law. Here in NJ we have private and state run motor vehicle inspections. The private garages in theory can let just about anything go, especially if it's a buddy's truck. I have seen private use diesel trucks run through the state inspections as I waited in line with my trusty old Explorer... They check the lights, the horn, the wipers and make sure the tires aren't wider than the fenders. They will fail you if you don't install fender flares to cover that 1/4" of tread that extends beyond the fender. Finally the brakes get slammed over an antiquated brake balance tester... if the truck is short enough. Then a sticker goes on. In contrast, my gas Explorer gets a tailpipe sniffer, and under body scan with a floor mounted camera, the fuel neck is checked for tampering, it then gets a computer scan to check for DTC's and that the Check Engine light is not illuminated, a dynomometer emissions check and then the gas cap is tested. All along with the lights, horn brakes and suspension. See the contrast? Why have regulations if you are not going to enforce them. And "everybody" seems to have a knot in their knickers over diesel emissions? They all make a good speech... and then turn a blind eye.

Sounds to me like this truck was "pre-diagnosed" for you. -
Check this article on the upcoming diesel Cruz. http://www.greencarreports.com/blog/1055...n-diesel-option

Given the fact that performing modifications to diesel vehicles seems to have become rampant, do you think that inspecting on-road diesel vehicles should include RIGID inspections for tampering and elimination of emissions equipment with heavy fines for those who are caught? .

Family Day? That is no holiday. Presidents day, now we are talking... Wa$hington, Lincoln, Grant, Jack$on.... and for some stupid reason I have to work on that day... and made very few Wa$hington$, Lincoln$ Grant$ and Jack$on$ ironically BECAUSE of the holiday.

I saw it. I woke up from my nap on the sunny part of the couch. It is amazing how resurfacing the track has completely transformed racing there. Aside from that there has been a lot of great television surrounding NASCAR this past week. The Dale Earnhardt documentary and a lot of interviews with some of the great drivers from years past many of whom were racing before I was born. I wish NASCAR would do more of that kind of thing before we lose more of the old timers. I love the stories they tell... some of which helps bring into perspective just how far motor sports like stock car racing has come.
