  1. I would type more but I am 6 beers, 4 huge shots of Jagermeister into this race and covered in Red Hot and honey wing sauce. You might need to tell me who wins this Daytona 500!
  2. Every time they make something more idiot-proof - God makes a better idiot. Thank you Jim Warman. On edit: The more I think about this the more I laugh.
  3. How did the piston look besides the valve impressions? I have seen many 6.0L and 6.4L pistons where the crown has begun to melt resulting in what Brad mentioned as metal transfer. It seems like it causes the piston crown to grow which may have been the source of that knock. We know the rods are not going to stretch. Often when I see this the edge of the piston crown is rounded and there is scoring of the cylinder walls as well.
  4. As with many things that have o-rings in aluminum bores, I have also found PB Blaster and patience to be effective. Enough lube, moving the part up and down eventually works the penetrant in. Problem for me on this one is that it was under the heater box and I was in a rush... make that impatient. Knowing that I would have access to the "other end" of the plugs it was not worth the effort. Oh I might have saved the harness... Also noticing more corrosion in those bores nowadays too.
  5. It amuses me too. Sometimes you have to vent. I felt better at the time as I yanked on that damn thing... until I realized it was still in the damn cylinder head! I shouldn't have gotten pissed because I was pulling the injectors any way and you can pop them off from the "inside."
  6. I hadn't broken any in a while until last week when I had a bank of injectors to replace. I go so pissed off I pulled on the harness so hard I stripped the rest of the harness off one glow plug wire all the way to the 4 way connector. It finally came out after the valve cover was off. Is it me or does this happen more on the right bank with the heater box in the way?
  7. There I go flat rate reading again... 2003... I agree with Mike on the pump.
  8. Sounds like YOU are the diesel tech now. It seems like you have the basic approach right but while STC fittings are common, the stand pipe and dummy plug seals at the oil rails have become just as big of a problem and depending on experience, they are now a more common failure. I also want to ask you if you commanded the IPR closed when you air tested the system?
  9. He wouldn't/couldn't say shit if he had a mouth full.
  10. The past is history. The future is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.
  11. If I'd known grandchildren were this much fun... I'd have had them first.
  12. "Enjoy life. There's plenty of time to be dead."
  13. Not unless the crankshaft is hopping up and down in the block.
  14. I have a lot of IDS screenshots saved and plan to add a screenshot gallery to the site. If anybody can come up with a screenshot that shows this "noise" that is evident of an injector I am interested in it.
  15. GOVERNMENT is a great target for these things! We could cut down on the number of trucks we taxpayers pay for.
  16. This company just added their site to Diesel Mentor and I thought it is really cool idea. Switch N Go Probably not unique but I haven't seen it anywhere. I have one or two customers that use something similar but they only use dumpsters for landscaping. They load them up with equipment or supplies and drop them at a job and still have a truck to load another box onto and keep working. It is actually quite brilliant because you can diversify your equipment while owning and maintaining fewer trucks at the same time.
  17. I went through a run of washer nozzles last year and then as abruptly as it started, they stopped. I guess there must have been a production run where the plastic was different? They got really brittle... probably from the heat of the turbo they sat above and yeah, lookin at them sometimes was enough to break em!
  18. That is why I asked if the concern was electrical or a fueling error. It seems that the later model year trucks the PCM disables the starter when the engine is running, I guess to prevent damage. You know, like turning the key to the start position with the engine running? I always assumed that that what I experienced was related to that strategy in the PCM. I am wondering if that perhaps is what your friend was experiencing whether as a direct or indirect result of the injector concern.
  19. Interesting. (scratches his chin) Is there an explanation as to why the starter would be de-enrgized? I swear I have run into that with a truck or two with a bad FICM that was "trying" to start. It sounds like hell!
  20. Mr. Amacker? Were there ANY other clues that would have led to this diagnosis such as DTC's or PID data? Was the signal noise directly related to the injector electrically or was it the result of improper fuel delivery?
  21. All complaints should be directed at your closest solid wall.
  22. ...or a loss of compression and increased crankcase pressure.
