  1. I am not sure if that was directed at me but I have to admit I have not posted many pictures on the site in the last couple of years. I do have many that our readers would like to see.
  2. I think we have had three F-Series and no E-Series. There was a time a year to two years ago it seemed "we" saw some cylinder heads being replaced for this. I know I read of several besides the one's we saw.
  3. I see Aaron has disappeared again. Did he eat something bad or did they call his number at the slaughter house?
  4. Well the reply I scratched out was quite dummed down from Mr Amackers post... which I also believe is the answer to your dilemma.
  5. And any time I have had an engine come in with severe injector problems an engine was required to repair... fuel washed cylinder walls, melted piston crowns, melted glow plug tips, and in one case a torched exhaust valve.
  6. Is there any evidence of fuel or oil contamination of the engine coolant?
  7. Ohhhh and I had to add my two cents didn't I? The idiot had all of the clues in the beginning with his FEAD Belt and A/C failure and Gofaterdammit's suggestion... but how did three shops miss the compressor?
  8. While that is sad this poll shows that we only trust our children to thier teachers 50%?
  9. I look though not necessarily with the express purpose of checking the valve. It's kinda like wiping off the oil filter flange on a gasser and making sure the old gasket is not stuck in place... it's second nature at this point. I do notice when the little white rings are installed and I did catch one valve missing a few years ago...
  10. THANK YOU!!! I looked there but I guess not close enough. Imagine that. Flat-rate reading on Sunday morning!
  11. Yumpin yimminy Jimmy! It isn't the pressure that ain't there that I fear, its wasting the time required to remove the injectors and mount them upside down when the mist test can/should achieve the same goal in a fraction of the time.
  12. I wasn't bitching as mush as I was commiserating. I agree that for some of us our careers/jobs are somewhat of a conundrum when you think about it. For me it is not "the job" so much as it it all of the bullshit you have to deal with that comes with the job. The bullshit is derived directly from other human beings therefore what the heck would you be doing that wouldn't come with bullshit? Eh? Wasn't this about cab removal? Oh yeah... cab removal typically means major repairs and all of the BS that goes with it. Nice dovetail!
  13. Mike it has been a while for me but I recall that you disconnect both 15 way connectors, remove all the glow plugs, turn the ignition on as to power up the HFCM to provide some fuel pressure and crank the engine. Look for any cylinders emitting a nice cloud of fuel vapor. This test is designed to help identify leaking fuel injectors. It is less time consuming and safer than the Inverted Injector test. I have searched for instructions or even some mention of the glowplug mist test on FMC Dealer or the PTS site. No luck. It seems that all of these little tips and tricks the Hot-Line used to post are no longer coming out... and all of the ones that used to be posted are no longer there either or they have been move to some obscure place. So if we can find an official set of instructions I will post something... maybe a quick article as to archive it.
  14. Thanks Jim, now I have proof that I could be doing this for another 20 friggin years!
  15. Hey I was just kiddin. There are a lot of guys that don't remove cabs and in all honesty, I have never done head gaskets or an engine without removing the cab. Has anyone here done either job both ways?
  16. Rust sucks and it kills productivity. Ford does not account for it and you have to use M-time when necessary though when it comes to TSB's and FSA's you are basically screwed.
  17. The owner of my dealership had a 2011 truck with some real funky rear tire wear. I wonder why.
  18. Direct access to files on a shared folder on the host PC. I would say is the easiest way AND the shared folder can be given access permissions with a firewall running on the host PC. All a user on the "network" or "workgroup" would need to do is click on my computer - network - select the computer and look in the accessible folder.
  19. Well Mike, you go as far as you must to get to the root cause. The advice I think you are fishing for is look at everything on the way in and rule out nothing. The moment you find anything that points to a non-Ford cause or condition you stop and get approval to continue or repair. The moment you find a Ford warranty concern you stop and fill out forms and make telephone calls... then you make a pain staking repair. Welcome to the abyss.
  20. Why just today Mr Warman I was using a 2006 Econoline EVTM to diagnose a 6.0L VREF circuit. The MAF sensor and related circuits were completely missing from the diagram and some of the PCM numbers were incorrect. I went on-line and the corrected and accurate diagram was there.
  21. Just out of curiosity do you think a Fiesta would fit in an 8 foot Super Duty bed?
  22. We took one out on the local side street our shop is on. I didn't think it was too different. I guess if I went for a real ride for a few miles I might think differently. For a car as small as the Fiesta is I thought it was quite solid and quiet, by far a major leap past the old Festiva and Aspire. I don't see anyone that is mush bigger than me would be comfortable in it though.
  23. I want to say that is something that was stated to me as well. As long as this proves to go away as we are being told I would not be very concerned about it. The trick is going to be in telling that to a customer with a $75K truck and having not be angry less happy about it. Supposedly the Duramax has a similar gremlin.
  24. Well, flames or not that exhaust got screaming hot by the look of those pictures. For might be interested in them or that vehicle. Have you contacted the Hot-Line?
