  1. LOL. Depending on the time of the year many engines look that way. We recently saw one that looked like that in August. It must have been sitting around since Winter. That is always good for vehicles too.
  2. I personally don't mind doing the "shit" work provided I am fairly compensated. There isn't much I actually consider "shit" work anymore, it is just work. Are we all noticing fewer young guys entering the business and out of those few how many show any aptitude, competence or desire?
  3. Me too! We seem to see these in runs. The picture Brad posted is noy too uncommon here in Jersey except that example looks frosted...
  4. I thought they dipped the pistons in paint to seal them.
  5. Oh you better hope the Hot-Line doesn't see that screwdriver! The claim will bounce for sure!
  6. I would assume one of the EGR coolers had a little leak?
  7. I am not sure what we are talking about here is keeping them in place. They usually separate into two pieces and you get that nice rubber ring that dances on the axle shaft next to the universal joints.
  8. Here is another picture I found in someone's signature at the Turbo Diesel Forums
  9. Now that you mention it Bruce I remember that sheet from a few years back. I have no clue if this is still part of the sales process.
  10. So you mean, that customers now have to be TOLD to maintain their trucks? So why does Ford print owner's manuals and Diesel Engine supplements? For US to read? So with that line of logic, if a customer installs a tuner into his truck and nobody tells him that he is not supposed to then it's okay if he blows it up? Sounds like somebody is dropping the ball up there in Canada.
  11. I don't know about the flash times, I never really noticed it taking that long before. I was using the wireless VCM but I have used that so many times in the past with no apparent problems.
  12. So that dealership is not diesel certified yet they have no problem performing customer pay service work? I hardly see that as right on several levels. I would send the truck back to them and call BS on them. There have been times when a strange vehicle has darkens my dealer's doorstep. Strange as in the customer lives pretty far away or we did not sell the truck and have never seen it in 50,000 miles. I discovered some time back that my FSE was "recommending" my dealer (me) to a few choice customers that were having trouble getting their trucks fixed at other dealerships That seems to have stopped and I am hoping it is because there are competent diesel techs in the area actually fixing things. I think we all still hear horror stories from time to tome. It sounds to me like MIKE is working at the wrong store!
  13. EGR Valve position sensor failure. I see it from time to time and have several screenshots.
  14. Quote: "But but but... my Blackstone reports tell me that I can increase my oil change interval by another 1500 miles! I am now up to 10,500 MILES per change and of course I am paying more for the synthetic blend I get over at Wal-Mart... but it's worth it. It doesn't show signs of "sheering" until about 8000 miles..." Sad but true Jim, there are people who don't open the hood until something is broken
  15. My FSE commented not long ago that Ford has looked at a lot of turbocharger failures and determined lack of maintenance / extended oil change intervals are almost always the cause. From what I have seen I must agree. Food for thought.
  16. I have done one so far and it did take a while. Come to think of it, I reflashed a 2008 6.4L today and it too took 20 minutes to complete.
  17. You are totally serious about this arent you. I'll take your word for it as if anyone would know it would be you. But a pattern failure? I have never heard of or seen this. Really? high pressure fuel will do that?
  18. You know, getting into one of these engines is a big process and once you know you are headed there you had better hope that you made the appropriate diagnostic tests. What also scares me is that usually by the time you get to the point where you can somewhat confidently define whether a repair is warranty or the customer's responsibility you have invested a lot of time and likely tied up a bay. It's kinda like walking into a dark cave with a dead flashlight looking for the guy handing out batteries.
  19. Thank you bruce, these are the instructions that were out several years ago which had disappeared. If anyone wants them please PM me with the e-mail address you would like me to send them to.
  20. I know someone had sent it to me ad a PDF file but I am having trouble locating it in my backups. I have replaced my PC since that time. If I can find it I will shoot it to you.
  21. I have noticed a lot of them over the last couple of years. Customers rarely care about them either. It has been a very long time since I have done a customer pay ball joint/seal job on a Super Duty as well. I have questioned the need for that seal anyway, once upon a time the axle tubes were open to the world with no real problems that I recall. But someone deemed them necessary, designed the truck that way so I suppose there is a good reason for them dependant on what the trucks is exposed to like water or deep mud that might migrate into the axle tubes.
