Fuel CheckUp Test Sheet/Strips
Keith Browning replied to LARRY BRUDZYNSKI's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
What do they test? -
We have had a couple trucks show low well before the oil change interval. They were new trucks however and I have doubts about two things: were the tanks really full from the factory and what warning was being displayed on the message center. I didn't see either... and at 4 or 5 thousand miles I am wondering if the customers were panicking.

Yep

I wanted what? A Windstar/Freestar?

A Cummins engine... Actually I am interested too so if anyone has this info or obtains it please pass it along. I don't see too many FQR engines. -
Pay Attention To What Your Doing!!
Keith Browning replied to joshbuys's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
An opinion if you will allow me... A - Not a very professional thing to do. You made yourself, the department and the dealership look unprofessional. Think about the implications of that. I know we all get busy, make mistakes and get frustrated. We even have to deal with stupid on occasion but we need to act like professionals. B - I am constantly reminded that "waiters" are a fact of life in our business. We need to be mindful that all customers deserve our attention and respect regardless of whether or not it is convenient. C - Having learned the hard way myself, I can say that if you want your coworkers to give you respect and consideration you need to give them respect and consideration. You may need to set the example or you may learn from someone else's example. Think of someone you highly respect and think about how they might have handled such a situation. Instead of getting into this service advisor's face you could have tried taking him/her aside and explaining that pages and interruptions are distracting to your work and that perhaps you would prefer them to walk back and talk to you. Work something out or this will continue to be a problem for you. -
I recall a couple of years ago there was an issue with the hold down bolts supposedly stretching from over tightening. It faded from Ford's database fairly quickly. I am skeptical to this day whether that was ever a problem.

Head studs for an e-series
Keith Browning replied to Mbl35's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Same here but I am always mindful that I need to earn revenue for the company and I do have some good incentives I rarely break 40 but I always try. If I had a van in for head gaskets it would be a wash. Lastly, our service department is still in agreement not to perform head stud installations for the simple fact that we would then own the engine. We recently had two trucks in that were tuned and now have leaking head gaskets. One turned away and the other I am finishing up on a cash ticket. It's his second set. It is all wrapped up and all I need to do is drop the cab when I return from training on Wed. My productivity is generally killed y being pulled from the job many times or distracted. Bet I don't finish it the day I return. -
Them locks be silver and I haven't decided to cut them off yet. Once gone they are gone for good!

Well, we would have to ask Ford Motor Company this. I could see it either being a typo as you suggest OR the sensors are numbered to follow a particular component. In other words, EGT 1-3 is supposed to always monitor the SCR no matter what the order of components is. Just a guess mind you.

Repair Robustness Actions?
Keith Browning replied to Aaron's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I think the engine is just fine. It's the fuel delivery system that is suspect - more precisely, the water separation module for one. The high pressure system is reeeeeeealy finicky too. They ought to come out with a robustness kit for THAT. -
All kidding aside now, Jim's tale is not unique and we read this kind of stuff in the monkey house all of the time. The truck stalled, he put in a new CMP... NOW it is stalling? Uhh, hello? They take a guess or throw a part at it because someone said to and they are surprised that it didn't fix it?

But first I would verify that the injector rotators are not sticking. Once they stop spinning the engine wont idle.

Feels good to wrap one of these jobs up. Doesen't it? -
Excellent point Mr. Warman.

Mike, We don't treat an outside shop any different than we would a customer walking in the front door. The ONLY difference that might exist is if they are one of our part's department customers with an account that gives them special pricing on parts. Road trip? Are you serious? There is a special tool for that and it is called a flatbed.

Being Prepared
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Below is a quote worth highlighting. Ford does make efforts to make information available to us. If we chose not to access and utilize it then there is no hope. The same can be said for techs and sales personnel. I am guilty of not regularly reading the Technician Hot-sheets or OASIS Broadcast Messages or even the messages on the front page of FMC Dealer. It all comes down to the individual to make the effort to be the best they can be and utilize all of the resources made available to them. I will however take a little credit for taking a few minutes to look up and jot down the common items we needed to have on hand for these new trucks and share it with my parts countermen. Teamwork is another part of the equation. The last component that you simply need to give a shit. -
I see the Fuck-up Fairy has visited Ford again. I agree with this change however they should have caught this at the beginning. EGT sensors should be treated like HEGO sensors. If you really want to confuse things even more the engine mounted EGT sensor IS the EGR inlet temperature sensor and therefore "technically" is also an emission component. In that sense then wouldn't ALL EGT sensors be covered under the emissions defect warranty and NOT the diesel engine warranty??? I see that the engine mounted EGT sensor is sometimes covered under the powertrain and sometimes covered under emissions defect depending on calibration/vehicle GVW. Does that alone change the function of this sensor?

Funny thing about the Google Ad Sense ads is that they are no longer simply based on the content of the website they are served. Google started something in the last year that somehow checks your cookies or something and I suppose the I.P. address of the computer viewing the website. Sometimes you might notice ads that are targeted to things you have been searching or viewing elsewhere and can even target ads by geographic location. So when some wise-ass comments on an ad they saw on this site they need to realize that the ad may be a reflection of their own surfing habits. Just some FYI for ya... not picking on Aaron.

I haven't heard about this as of yet and I was wondering if there was going to be some kind of test for DEF. I was thinking test strips but this has to be more accurate. Bruce, do you know if the tester in the link you posted is the same one Ford/Rotunda will be distributing and is the going to be a mandatory tool automatically sent to the dealerships?

We're gonna go there eh?

I have been growing my hair, it's getting kinda long at this point. I pulled into a gas station this morning and an older Indian man walks up to my window and says: "good morning Madam." (Yes, here in NJ it is illegal to pump your own fuel) Yesterday My FSE was here and since he has always known me to have crew cuts thinks my hair is funny as shit. Now my hair gets caught in my creeper's wheels. Maybe I should just grow up and shave my head already.
