95-97 and 98-03 special tools
Keith Browning replied to jbarnett31's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
What year specifically? The very early trucks had threaded oil hoses which were replaced by snap to connect fittings for 96(?) engines. The STC fittings require the line disconnect tool and the adapter cable is need for all engines. Life is not a journey to the grave, with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body..., but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming... 'What a trip!'

6.7L Coffee Table Books
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Yes, according to my hands on for the final exam today it appears Ford will be using a label. Incidentally, IDS will record the IQA data from the processor and tuck it in the session information file so when performing repairs know that you can refer to that data if there is any questions as to what injector went where. Also, if you go to the IQA function in the powertrain menu it will display the data... if performing major repairs it might be good to print that screen and save it with your paperwork... just in case. -

And combine that with IQA there could be some interesting results! -

Sweet! Thank you. I was told it was probably done last week waiting for Ford to announce the "numbers." Hopefully it won't be long before the printed copies are out. I will add this to the DTS Coffee Table Book page tonight. DONE! -
We were warned about that and I did not break it. Supposedly at the instructors training there were quite a few broken SRC injectors. Now, do ya THINK they might do something about that since they see it happening at such a high rate?

One of two hands on exercises today was to remove the turbocharger and the "shim gasket" was truck to the block. I stuck my hand down in the valley to touch something on the fuel pump and I cut myself bad on the gasket... the engine drew blood! Is this a sign?

Since it isn't completed and out to print yet I don't see how it could be available yet. I am sure that onece the PDF is available it will show up on FMC Fealer dot com -
The BG diesel service kits in my part's department have dust on them. To me that speaks volumes. I personally don't recommend them as for the most part it has not been proven to me that they offer any benefit nor value. The last time BG came into my bay it was to demonstrate their EGR flushing device. It failed to clean the ports impressively and I could have done a better job with Motorcraft combustion chamber cleaner, brakleen and a wire scrub brush in a fraction of the time. Needless to say the experience solidified that this kind of product is mostly crap in a can with marketing and profit being more important than any benefit to the engine or the consumer.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T GET A COFFEE TABLE BOOK IN TRAINING you will have one mailed to you at your home address as listed in STARS2 sometime after they become available. NOW would be a good time to log-in to STARS2 and verify your information. At the time of this post nobody is getting them because they haven't been finished and printed yet. Those of us who have already attended the classroom training have used the second proof which has been copied into binders which you cant have. The books will be handed to technicians in training as soon as they are available and the proof copies will continue to be used.

That is what sucks about the first few classes - aside from having some wrinkles to iron out you had to take a course that was lacking too many things. I hope you got some value from it. I am off to the course in the morning as well. -
Thanks for the info Fred. I'll keep them in mind when it comes time to set the instrument back up. I didn't see any mention of refinishing which as I research this I see refinishing can be expensive. There are some specialists that do restoration and refinishing and repairs but this instrument is not a classic, heirloom or an expensive bass to begin with... it was my first and it plays well and I guess I want to keep it for a while more anyway. I have read a lot about the process and it is more about taking the time to do it right and use the proper methods. For about $50-$60 in materials I can hopefully do a fine job.

I know there are a few musicians among us. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience and has any advice on refinishing guitars. Long story short I still have my first bass guitar I bought when I was 16, an Ibanez 4-string. After an unsuccessful refinishing attempt the guitar has been sitting in the basement in the case for years. I have a renewed interest in the instrument and I am older and much more experienced with such projects. I once asked a body shop tech about painting it but he wanted about $250 to to it... after asking around that seems to be about the going rate. That is more than I paid for the bass 25 years ago. Fuck me. Is 40 old? Anyway, I looked around the Internet and found this website http://www.reranch.com/ that has great advice and products not to mention a forum full of information. Thought I would share whilst I was askin. The bass? Was my favorite too. Black lacquer body and neck. I am actually considering a different color leaving the neck black as it is still in perfect condition. I think the black neck, hardware and pickups would look sharp with almost any color. This is not mine but it is exactly the same.

I saw that too. I am sure it will be posted soon but I am still at a loss as to where all of the usful stuff that was in the Power Stroke Central page... and where the page went! I was sent an early copy of the book (incomplete) and I can tell you it is the same as prior Coffee Table Books. No matter. I will have my hard copy in less than 48 hours from now. -

Engine Knock and Charcoal Turbo
Keith Browning replied to Mbl35's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Okay, not a common problem but I have had 7.3L engines where an injector was loose and fuel was leaking fuel into the cylinders. They knocked real bad. Also, I had one 6.0L with a split injector tip and two 6.4L engines with injectors DUMPING fuel that you would have sworn were coming apart. Of course they had other symptoms besides a heavy knock... like a little smoke. Just a little! -

Thanks Josh, that is what we needed to see. Where did the file come from? It seems like a lot of us are missing things lately, am I wrong? Where did Power Stroke Central go on the PTS site? I havent seen the link or any of the information from it in a while.

THis happened MONTHS ago. The primary filter now has an o-ring on the ourtside or the pump end as Aaron stated. The part number is the same. I don't recall an announcement or bulletin but that doesent mean there isn't one... I have been missing stuff lately. I'll try to snap a pic for you on monday Bruce.

They must have just posted the WSM, I was snooping around just a day or so ago. I go to the classroom this week coming up and it will be nice to get my hands on some current reading material... I have seen an early publication but it wasn't complete. I dunno man, there is a lot more shit under the hood now, and under the truck now that I think about it. Do I really want to look at the WSM now?
