  1. Good heads up in the trans jack. Time to start buggin the boss about it... a lot of our shop equipment is getting old and a little ragged.
  2. That's awesome! I think all training courses should have one of those tests just to prove a point.
  3. The lower screen picture looks like sand to me. I feel that cleaning around the oil cooler before removing the bolts is very important. Use an air blow gun, brakleen, small screwdriver or a small brush if you have one. More brakleen and compressed air afterward.
  4. Yeah, at this point I am not to sure about this either when it comes to the IPR but broken screens and debris are things you do want to be careful with. Any debris that ends up into the oil passage to the HPOP likely ends up in the pump and what's spit out can enter the injectors or if small enough pass through the IPR screen. If the screen is separated or broken then there ya go. My observation has been that any stuck IPR valves that had a broken screen, had a piece of the screen stuck in the valve. Recall those pics I took of the new oil coolers with the white substance left behind from manufacturing? I doubt that had any effect whatsoever. Completely cleaning dirt and sand from around the oil cooler BEFORE unbolting and removing it is important. Many techs, myself included use a fluid evacuator to suck out the oil and and any debris from the oil cooler resevoir. A new screen is always prudent.
  5. Excellent explanation Greg! Thank you. I "kinda thought" something to that effect...
  6. I never gave this much thought but concerning the thermostat issue on these engines we were given an SSM and a TSB in which Ford uses the word "hyperextended". Exactly what the hell is that supposed to mean? It seems to me that the t-stats are either sticking or have experienced some kind of damage anytime I have had to mess with them and a few of our members have reported damage or debris. So, hyperextended? Are they opening too far? Blocking passages? Has anyone heard a better explanation? The DTS gets e-mails on this and I don't know what to answer with.
  7. Personally I consider cutting a carpet damaging the truck especially since the cut will be in an area where it is visible even if it is covered by a floor mat which may or may not be present. If this were under a seat or a console that would be another story. I am not judging anyonein particular but this is an unacceptable practice in my opinion. I know that having to wrangle that rear seat out of a crew cab is a pain in the ass and takes a little time but that is how it should be done. We first must recognize that cab removal on pre-2008 trucks is not condoned by Ford motor Company but the reality is that with Ford cutting labor times ridiculously low we are somewhat forced to find faster and sometimes better ways of doing things. This is where wisdom comes into play. Knowing what corners to cut and which corners need to be left square identifies us as professionals and men who care about doing the right thing. I personally am not willing to risk my pride, reputation and the reputation of my employer by jeopardizing an otherwise perfectly executed repair by cutting a customer's carpet, all for what, saving 10 minutes?
  8. No thanks. I am still holding onto a lot of t-shirts... last time I do something stupid like that!
  9. SHHHHHH! Next you guys will be wearing Kevlar gloves!
  10. On a 6.0L no, not for a miss IF relative compression shows no loss on ALL CYLINDERS. Low power and high crankcase pressure, yes. Bring me a 6.4L with a misfire that is not fuel or wiring related, ABSOLUTELY!!! A 6.4L will mask problems as I am sure many of us have seen. I wouldn't' dream of disassembling a 6.4L or replacing an injector in one without testing the troubled hole at the very least. Sorry buddy, I have been fooled by this engine. If it happens again I am selling my tools and filling out an application at McDonald's. I know better.
  11. Is this new? I haven't done a compression test in a few months and I know wasn't there not too long ago.
  12. I get paid. There is no operation code but I believe we claim R+R 8 glow plugs and add 0.5. Not sure whether it is claimed exactly that way or we claim M-time for the operation based on what I just mentioned... or something like that. You HAVE to do the test and you HAVE to claim for it somehow.
  13. Where's a FAR engine when you need one!
  14. I almost want to say that is the same group of videos the in-dealer training presentation used. Definitely worth watching.
  15. Okay... I'll take the bait. What is this useless motorized thing you now have?
  16. Now THATS some really bad business practices. Ford Motor Company should really be embarrassed. I wonder if dealerships can report Ford to the BBB? It is sounding like they are not working "with us."
  17. I wasn't necessarily giving advice. I really think he fucked something up because the truck did not run like that before he "fixed" it.
  18. I had to chime in on that one... I questioned when he last had the palm of his hand calibrated.
  19. I watched the whole thing. You missed nothing. It was cool how the truck in the next bay just "disappeared" though. The ONLY way to beat book time is to bust your ass and cut corners.
  20. I still get a kick out of that picture. I am still surprised that three years into this that there is a lack of DPF cleaning facilities around. More surprisingly is that I for one have not seen a truck yet that has had an ash loaded DPF. I have had one or two that were plugged and I assume thy could be serviceable with an oven. That would be cheaper than a new filter yes?
  21. What self tests can be done with most non ford scan tools? I was asked by a vehicle owner how an injector buzz test was done... I explained but since I have no experience with aftermarket scanners or diagnostic equipment I cannot advise if this can be done without the use of Ford scan tools.
  22. "If we don't protect freedom of speech, how will we know who the assholes are?"
  23. Ahhh! The info I was lookin for and much much more. Thank you all!
