99 7.3 losing ICP on hard accel
Keith Browning replied to Buddy_M's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
As silly as that sounds I have seen it couple of times. If I recall it was really strange because it only happened under hard accel. I started our looking for a harness problem thinking that the engine torquing and pulling the harness was causing it. Then I discovered the said nut and spacer in the valley and the IPR field sliding freely on the valve. -
I asked the in dealer training guys what their truck was getting and if I recall correctly the IC had 15.2. This is a brand new truck with about 1000 miles on it.

Milk does come from bags but that is not what I was expecting to see. umm, Canadians do know that milk comes in recyclable plastic jugs with a handle and a nice cap right? They are convenient, don't require an extra container, are crateable and have been around cince the 1960's. Milk bags...

In Dealer Training
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Okay, first thing is no pics. It is weird to be doing that in your own freaking showroom like a fucking Japanese tourist in Atlantic city. There was really nothing we haven't seen already with the Ford videos and the pictures that some of our esteemed fellow DTS members took and shared with us. I did bring my better camera to work and I did scope things out early in the day so don't get me wrong, if there was something worth pixelizing you would be viewing it right now. We will see plenty as we encounter problems when they arise and we start to disassemble a few engines. As for the "interesting props" I was feeling let down as I expected some really cool stuff like a cutaway of the single sequential turbocharger for example, or the air-to-water charge air cooler or the EGR valve in it's housing. I wanted to really see some of the new approaches to some of the problems Ford put so much effort into solving that plagued recent Navistar engines. That was a big point the presenters made and that Ford really studied the current engines and allowed a dedicated team to work on developing this engine. They gave them a goal, got out of the way and let them get creative. We did see a cross-section of the 6.2L cylinder head and a piston - the big block is back! We were handed one of the cylinder head to turbo pipes from the 6.7L PSD which was less interesting than the concept behind it. As far as I was concerned the only real prop there was the truck itself. But before you begin to think that this training was less than interesting or of little value let me stop you. It was in fact new model training and I believe you will get credit on STARS for attending it. In the three hours we spent with the two men from Ford I left the showroom impressed with Ford's efforts and with the product. It appeared to me that there was a lot of thought put into all of the new features that the 2011 Super Duty truck has to offer. It wasn't just the new Ford diesel engine, the new 6.2L gasoline engine or the 6-speed Torqshift transmission. They really took the whole truck to a new level. The refinements to the existing features were matched by the new features we will become familiar with when the trucks hit the street. Above and beyond the current features and the new engines and transmission, here are some of the new "functional" features and equipment: [*]Factory gooseneck/5th wheel hitches [*]Trailer sway control with RSC (Ride Stability Control) [*]Live PTO provision allowing stationary and moving PTO operation [*]Ford Work Solutions [*]Helical limited slip rear differential [*]Electronic locking rear differential [*]Hill Decent Control (holds set vehicle speed between 2 to 20 MPH by applying brakes) [*]Integrated exhaust brake (uses the VGT to create back pressure) [*]Hill assist (holds the brakes for 2 seconds to prevent rollback on steep hills after brake pedal is released) [*]Transmission manual mode (driver manually shifts by depressing buttons on shifter) [*]Transmission Progressive Range Select (driver can reduce the range of gears available) [*]Enhanced Tow-Haul (by integrating the exhaust brake) [*]Instrument Cluster LCD productivity Screen (new message center and vehicle systems options and controls) There were no road tests and we didn't even get to hear the diesel engine run. You really cant see the engine. I did get to touch it though. I am looking forward to the classroom training for the 6.7L as my career has spanned the introductions of all 4 Power Stroke engines and as I reflect upon that fact the last 20 years in this industry have been amazing as has been the evolution of the Ford truck. -

If you are an animal and are capable of doing things like sneak cylinder heads out from under the intake manifold it is doable. -

Oh wow I just saw that episode an hour ago and was going to check it out. Thanx for mentioning it as I already forgot... long week and beer after work will do that! -
Tomorrow Ford will be bringing a 2011 Super Duty to our dealership and doing some training with us. The message also stated they will be bringing "a variety of interesting props."

Nope, too many customers on the rag. -
Larry I believe the outrage is that Toyota may have delayed action on this concern for YEARS. While many times we see manufacturers reluctant to move on correcting product issues this is something most people would not have expected from Toyota if the allegations are true. You cite examples of corporations taking the least expensive path and I believe when it comes to safety cost should be secondary. As I stated in another venue, "What is a life worth?" It once again comes back to our society and the values we place on things like human life or profitability. It comes down to the almighty dollar. We see it over and over with Ford and I am sure the rest of them are no different. Inaction has a price as well. It is interesting to watch this play out. We can make light of this and poke fun at Toyota all we want but it is kinda sad... and there are a lot of people out there making some really stupid comments.

Why not requst they do just that? -
I know of a charge back where the technician failed to charge out the VC9 Iron cleaner on a head gasket repair... he likely did not flush the system. I wasn't watching and wont make an accusation, BUT... I know you cant flush the system as you are instructed to without using the chemical. <Biting my tongue> Ford charged back $287 for the coolant and labor for flushing the system. They are right for doing so. This is an example of of how NOT DOING THINGS THE RIGHT WAY can hurt. Be thorough. Be precise. Be professional. All I am gonna say.

Toyota: Can't sell 'em, can't stop 'em. Have you extiguished a Ford... Lately?
-
Apparently there is more to the story as I am hearing there are investigations concentrating on safety concerns dating back to 1999. This morning I heard a report on the news of brake system concerns with the Prius. A lot of people still swear by them though and Toyota has had a good record but they are not infallible. I know we discussed Toyota here before and I remember that it seems Toyota has escaped media attention when there are recalls on them.

Wink and a nod.

Excellent. The basic shows in the picture but only for the rocker fulcrum plate bolts. I gave 'em the number you came up with and it shows as an "8mm / 70 bolt" I made the order so I'll know in the morning but I am confident that is it. Thanks Mike!!!!!!!

Those bolts are not, and never were included in the head set -#6051 as far as I can remember. They are low torque and are re-useable.
