Looks like a lot of used and salvage parts out there BUT as a dealership WE would not acquire them... if the customer were to obtain them that is fine as long as they understand that with used parts there is a risk that there will be a problem. This is actually a local Police department which also makes it difficult but that is for them to decide.

Man. The word "contraption" came to mind upon first glance. It is interesting to look at though.

Jim, if you have never visited the great state of New Jersey you are missing out on one of the greatest areas of human diversity. One common trait that typifies the north eastern part of the state running north and just south of Newark is the legendary attitude that is apparently a pre-requiseite to being a resident. If you are a native to the area it is in your blood. "Snow huh? - FUCK IT YO!" "What the fuck are you lookin at? "Ehyyyyy! I'm drivin here, get that mother fucking plow out da way 'fore I jack yo ass up! Go a little west and you have some of the brightest and friendliest people you can meet. It's a strange land I live in.

Well we ended up with 2 or 3 inches yesterday which is not much but it does count as the first snowfall of the year in my eyes. It completely covered the grass and caused motor vehicle accidents so it's official. Today, since none of the municipalities appear to have been prepared there is about 2 inches of ice on all of the roads. I haven't seen hide nor hair of a plow truck or salt spreader. The lawn is probably crunchy too! I have to go to Lowes to return a toilet seat that is the wrong color so I guess it's a good time to pick up some fresh ice melter and maybe a new shovel. I'll bet I will not be the only one! Still haven't ordered a new drive belt for my snow thrower. Think I should get that done this week?

6.4 egr valve puller
Keith Browning replied to Steve Mutter's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Wow, they really beefed that puller up with the new parts. Unfortunately we had to replace ours a few months ago because it fell apart. We replaced it with the old style puller. -
I have several different versions now... I will post something old and I am working on a new, cleaned up version from several sources... I would love to add an Econoline procedure too. I have pictures but I never wrote it up. Anybody have anything there? By the way I am producing a nice PDF document for safe keeping, sharing, displaying and printing.

I think this discussion has reached it's end. One of several topics... Politics and government discussions CAN dovetail into discussions concerning our industry and our jobs however this topic is starting to sound like a conservative -V- liberal pissing match and has little value to add to any discussion in this forum. I also fear that we risk needless strife and polarization between members. This is a technical web site and we are all professionals. This is not to say we cannot discuss legislative or political matters however we should be mindful that if we do, we need to keep things relevant. I have always encouraged free and open discussions in the DTS forums and have been VERY (dare I use the term) liberal in allowing various subjects a chance to progress into a useful discussion. This is not directed at any one member. I alone carry the burden of moderating these forums and I can only apologize for allowing this to progress including my own participation. Upon further thought, I have decided that this topic needs to be locked and possibly even removed. This is not a reflection of my views and opinions rather an action required to maintain the goal I set forth when I created this web site and forum and the level of integrity I hold myself to. I think we have something great here at the DTS and I don't want to screw it up over politics. Comments and questions may be directly addressed by sending a private message directly to me. Thank you for your understanding.

I believe we are looking for the original write-up that was posted at flatratetech.com like four years ago. I remember printing it out and using it for my first cab off. I have been scouring all of my hard drives for it but i can't seem to find it. At one time I was cleaning it up and making it neater to post but decided not to in the end for liability reasons... I should have just done it looking back now. The pictures were not necessary but are helpful. I don't recall who the original author was either - would be nice to credit him if we do salvage a copy. I do have a write-up posted by Warren Johnson that I could polish and put it into a .PDF format for sharing and posting... perhaps with additional sub instructions for different cab types and Excursions. ktmlew email me your copy and let's see what we have.

The rear cat on my Freestyle broke and I waited a couple of months. The exhaust leak wasn't horrendous so we put up with it. Another customer at our dealer waited over 4 months for a front cat on a Freestyle! To be honest, if we had an arc welder I could have repaired it easily. The connecting flange simply came loose on the outlet side. What a waste.

Unfortunately this is the hand we have been forced to play. -
It's kind of old and the one I had I got from flatratetech.com but that is gone and so is the copy I had. If someone has it please post it... so we have it.

Chris, please stop up at Warnock and borrow my socket. Dan is using it on a truck that we are waiting on seals for but once he gets it together you can use it so maybe stop in later in the day or at least come by and look at it and see if it is what you need. I have several of these sockets... For crying out loud! I could probably throw the damn thing and reach your shop.

Thanx Larry.

We are in the need of two parts that the parts list shows as obsolete for a 2000 Excursion w/6.8L Locator showed one of the parts @ a dealer in California, we called but no part. [*]YC3Z-12B205-CB.........GEM . [*]YC3Z-14A068-BB.........Central Junction Box (dash fuse panel) Any suggestions?

The POINT Jim is that the aftermarket/independent industry wants to be able to make parts and be able to sell them the day a new model hits the show room. This cuts deeper into the OEM pockets than they already have. I liken this to the pharmaceutical companies spending millions in research on drugs and then having to immediately compete with generic manufacturers and never recoup their investment let alone a profit. As for the information side of things and OUR service bays I am still not sure this is too much of an issue however we have watched our share of the business continually lost to the independents for some time... sure, there is still the warranty period and well, if you aren't making customers happy (for whatever reason) and retaining them... that is another story.

There is a lot to look at on that site!

I too have come across a few trucks doing this... STC fitting rubbing the rear cover as stated. We have even seen a couple of covers crack as a result and I know that a few other members have seen that as well. I also recall the first one being difficult to pin dowm but once you know that sound you don't forget it.

That's cool! You can see it if you are logged in.
