As a matter of fact, I was discussing this with my service manager yesterday. Apparently t his is Ford's latest tactic to reduce their warranty expenses. It is almost strong arming dealers to reduce claims by saying your claims are higher than the region average so you need to adjust something. He said he was even told TO REDUCE THE HOURS THE TECHNICIAN WAS PAID and resubmit the claim. Fortunately he refuses to do that as he said how much more can they take from you guys? Many claims have to do with their TSB's that pay straight time beyond the normal labor operations. I know I don't get paid excessively on these TSB's, not even close. All I can say is that what comes in the door is not something we can control and the failures that fill our service bays are the sole responsibility of Ford Motor Company for producing a defect-laden product. I say submit the claims and fight them tooth and nail on every one they reject. CALL THEM ON IT! If you are doing your job and the paperwork is correct should you win. It is however up to us to be sure that we are properly diagnosing and repairing these trucks following the guidelines and procedures in the first place. Again, this makes us question whether Ford changed TSB's to help us by covering our time to diagnose and repair properly or to use them as a tool to take more away from us. As for normal repairs and labor operations, it is what it is. You shouldn't be told you can't do that simply because "it is rarely claimed." Yes, you are not the only one getting tired of this crap. And Ford just reported a $1 billion dollar profit last quarter. Do the fucking math.

Thought I heard about this somewhere recently... IDS will not do a manual regen. I am at the current level with the software. I just replaced an EGR valve and the DPF status is overloaded. I really don't want to release the truck this way so I was hoping to put the truck outside and do a manual regen whilst I did other things. I can select the service procedure, I get the conditions screen then the information screen advising that regen can only occur with loaded, overloaded and clogged DPF's. No problem! My screen says overloaded! I click on the tic and boomp! Back to the do you want to retry warning.

Really? I guess those numbers do fit into the within 75% of the highest rating which is Ford's spec but I hate seeing readings like that. It still makes me question things. -

I sense that Jim may be interested in this topic and feels that the food related banter is distracting to the topic. As a group we do enjoy a little comedic relief but we do tend to inject a lot of off topic comments that we may want to consider toning down a little. I too am guilty of this. This is a great forum and I am not going to tell you gents how to behave but if we need to get silly lets post something new in the The Water Cooler forum... but, I do need to point out that the food comments did start with Mr. Warman and I quote: -
Who makes the best drill bits?
Keith Browning replied to Mekanik's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Of course, as with all drill bits, using the correct type, drill speed and lubricant will affect the life, performance and safety of the bits. I also recommend using a drill bit sharpener such as the Drill Doctor to maintain a sharp edge, offset and angle. I absolutely love my Drill Doctor and it was worth every penny! -

6.4L high oil consumption
Keith Browning replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I agree with Jeff here - the injector history raises concerns. I too was fooled by a wrist pin retainer failure that caused large gouges in the cylinder. A manual compression test is probably well worth your time on this one. -
It would be nice to get an early peek at the details of this engine but it would only satisfy my curiosity. I would think this is not an official course. I was in the second week of 6.4L training here the NY zone and there were a few problems. I expect the 6.7L will bring a lot more material to cover than the successive training previous engines had and I would prefer the glitches and errors be worked out. Don't get me wrong, I want the training but do I really want to be first? Okay, who am I bullshitting?

I would dare say hold on to copies of the current/old software and take very good care of your IC-4 com cables! -

6.4L DPF Delete Warning Letter
Keith Browning replied to mchan68's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I can't say it has opened my eyes as I am well aware of the attitudes of the MOD CROWD out there but the post does affirm my observations. I am not sure what SL Ford intends that letter to do concerning the situation in light of the fact that Ford with it's many warnings and proclamations seemingly fails to make any attempt to detect modifications or enforce the policy regarding them. Unless the shit is still bolted onto the truck Ford turns a blind eye and deaf ear. I suppose that SL Ford is attempting to prevent themselves from getting caught in the middle? -
2010 Escape 3.0L Lower Engine Block Cracked
Keith Browning replied to mchan68's topic in All Gasoline Engines
The first picture you posted at the top of the thread shows the damaged area of the block directly behind the right axle shaft. This would most likely point to an incident during production somewhere along the line before that shaft was put in. Is there a support bracket for the shaft near there? I am not familiar with the Escape at all but the shaft and anything else running under that area like the exhaust would provide some degree of protection as well. Hey, shit happens. -

Is it me or does that engine look like it was hit right where the break is? I see distinct looking witness marks like something whacked it on that parturition. -

Here is more information on the thermostat issue that Greg mentioned, it doesn't necessarily cover your symptom but pay attention to the diagnostic recommendation to see if you are dealing with hyper extended t-stats.

IH Engine Diagnostic Software
Keith Browning replied to Bruce Amacker's topic in General Diesel Engines
That is important news for the International guys but as far as Ford is concerned we don't have any new models that require Navistar diagnostics and likely had no need to update to the new cable/software. I say likely because if a dealer does a lot of work on F-Series and LCF's and their equipment fails... support is no longer available for the IC-4 cable or the software. What about module reprogramming? Wabco brakes? Will the current software still work? I am holding onto my MD Truck software tightly... along with the software key!!! I doubt my dealer will put the money out for the new cable and I assume software to go with it but do you have any pricing information? I'll keep my yes open on the Ford end to see if anything pops up. -
Greg while I was in the process of searching for these connectors I ran OASIS on an older VIN thinking I might find it that way, and I did! If you read through this entire thread you should have picked up on the fact that there are two TSB's, the first was applicable to 7.3L equipped vehicles and the second to update and add the 6.0L applications. While researching this I had contacted the Hot-Line, I commented that this needed to be updated and they agreed, sending the information to another department for review. Maybe we will see an updated TSB to include all 6.0L vehicles through 2009 Econolines. BTW the repair was successful.
