  1. NOW we have the upper hand! All of our 6.0L head gasket problems are behind us gentelmen! Take a look at this sealing marvel of technology. steelseal.com Unfortunately I discovered this from a Google ad on this site. Gonna have to add the website address to the filter...
  2. I also believe this little problem is brought on by people getting paid... people who either don't really understand whether the product or service is of any real value to the customer or they simply don't give a shit. The same can be said for aftermarket warranties.
  3. Hey Aaron? What is the lettuce and tomato doing on that thing? I thought you don't eat salads!
  4. Kind of a difficult decision to make eh? For me finding a chaffed wire is usually enough as I like to find the actual problem. It is when you start reading things like this from any source the seeds of doubt are planted. Then the fun begins because the clock will screw us all any time we have to re-trace our steps. Personally I don't see how grounding any of those circuits is going to damage the pump. I HAVE had (and got beaten up by) a bad pump that acted just like the gasket harness chaffing symptoms. A faulty PCV or VCV OR a shorted circuit can do some strange things AND not leave a DTC. Isn't this FUN?
  5. Ahhh yet another Ford Parts faux pas. Why would you provide a part like that AND NOT INCLUDE THE NECESSARY GASKETS AND HARDWARE?!?!?!?!
  6. The rear cat on my Freestyle went. I was told back in August it was to be released on Halloween. I was delightfully surprised when it arrived mid September. When I got it off I discovered that the flange was not welded on very good. If I had a welder I could have simply repaired it.
  7. However concerning this vehicle it did not stall because coolant got into a cylinder. There would have been damage for sure and the coolers would have to had failed.
  8. I know this is not a new subject but holy crap! What is with the availability of some parts? We have cars down waiting MONTHS for catalytic converters, a throttle body and now three trucks needing instrument clusters. Two of them waiting for over 8 weeks now and I just ordered another. This cluster deal is even more amazing because you cannot get an ETA on the part when you order one and they won't accept phone calls about availability. You order the part and THEN you get a note about the clusters being backordered. A little snooping around and you find out that there are no cores available. Hello? They are broken! Defective! MAKE SOME NEW ONES!!! This is not good for customer satisfaction. The newest customer in need not only has a defunct cluster but the radio and power windows do not works as a result. We may have to send him back out on the road with his truck not repaired. <exhale> Okay, I am done.
  9. You know, this is starting to sound like many of the clusters I have had to replace for erratic speedometer operation. As I recall it affected 2005 model trucks. Speeds would show variations, or would wildly raise to over 100 while cruising local streets. Perhaps there is a way to borrow a cluster? Which brings me to a new topic...
  10. I just used that TSB (08-25-01) and it only addresses the white smoke issue in damp/rainy weather during acceleration and so forth and so on....
  11. All dry. No steam, no smoke. No water in the intake, none in the exhaust or any in the charge air cooler to boot! The only evidence I found on this truck was a bad radiator. We do a lot of radiators on trucks that previously had the venturi tee recall. So far I have only seen one that resulted in a bad EGR cooler that hadn't self destructed. So I am cautious... but the further I dig, the less I find.
  12. This is actually the SECOND 6.4L equipped truck THIS WEEK that had no coolant in it. The other one just had the oil changed and apparently checking the fluid levels was an option as the windshield washer fluid was also empty. That truck had the coolers pulled for bench testing, the t-stats removed for inspection as well as the water pump due to a white smoke complaint. I didn't find nuttin wrong wit dat one eider!
  13. Customer called from the highway the other day saying his F450 went into regen then lost power and stalled on the highway. It would not restart though nobody can tell me if it would crank or not. He had it towed to his yard to unload the dump body full of dirt. The next morning (today) he tried it and it started right up. (I know what you are thinking) He drove it into the dealership and parked it. So I get the repair order, grab the keys and off I go. Runs great! But wait, the temp gauge is not moving. Pull into the shop and I perform my inspections and ah ha! No coolant. Put three gallons in it and verified the left radiator tank seam is leaking. There are no DTC's in the system except a P1000 from when I installed some injectors 3000 miles ago which the clear distance PID indicates... so nobody cleared anything. There is no evidence that this thing even overheated either. Without DTC's and not being able to verify any performance issues, stalling or a no start condition I have nowhere to go here. This sounds like an EGT sensor failure but every time I see that failure I see a DTC for it. Is there any engine protection shut down that might occur under these circumstances - regen, loaded truck, no coolant and low ECT with normal/high EOT readings? I am baffled. It has a new radiator and I have run it and driven it... will be road testing again and if it behaves I am sending it home. What would you do? What can you do really?
  14. Wow, that looks like the pan and the block are cracked.
  15. Now I have been in you tool box and I know you have the tools. You must mean that you don't have a trans jack. You do know we have one... Don't worry, they would never let you borrow it.
  16. Chris - I pass your shop every day and DUH! There are school busses parked there... can't miss 'em. Yeah, it's a weird one and I am starting to think you may have had more than one leak on this thing. I couldn't see the top of the trans but are there any openings at the top the flywheel housing? I am wondering if you do actually have a leak at the crank. What throws me off is the smoke coming off of the exhaust up pipe... and no visible oil.
  17. Excellent observation and explanation. I never thought about it but it seems likely that International would have researched this. Aside from that I have never heard of any effective "flush or cleaning methid for injector problems.
  18. Oil dye is usually added as 1 ounce to every 5 quarts of oil.
  19. Go to the workshop manual - on the top left under "Qiock Links" you will see the master DTC list... P167F refers you to the transmission section.
  20. I am optimistically impressed with what I have learned so far with this Ecoboost program. Now we just need to see how well it was all put together and how well it all stays together.
