This is interesting reading. And Spartans claims are in my opinion like yours: fraudulent. This is a blatant poke in the face of the manufacturers and Ford in particular. The problem is that this level of game playing is not necessary because Ford will not back us up in the field... at least in my experience they seem very reluctant to check out any reasonable claim that a vehicle owner has damaged the product and taken steps to hide his abuse of the vehicle or negligence. Undoubtedly we have all seen those "Modifications" warning decal under the hood? May as well rip them off the radiator support because they are meaningless. Considering the effort Ford makes to protect their brand and their bottom dollar I wonder if they would find that statement enough reason to go after Spartan. The following statement also raises the question of did Spartan reverse engineer Ford's programming? -
Just in case you are not aware there is a link to the Motorcraft pigtail charts on the left side of the forum under the Tech Resources menu. I also have one in print that came from our Motorcraft distributor - I am sure that if you ask you might be able to obtain one for you or your dealership. In either case you could take the sensor in your hand and compare it to the chart. Glad you got this straightened out. Bruce gets the pitcher of been and a bucket of chicken wings this week!

Yeah. I love it when the fuck-up fairy comes around.

I started Friday by installing an new ACH in an 08 Super Duty. Finished with the PMI and screwed the dash back together and checked all of the functions. Guess who forgot to remove the navigation CD from the old unit?

This stinks of a foul injector but the scenario is really strange and may be distracting to your thought process. In all Power Strokes a fuel leak or sticking injector pintle will almost always affect the other injectors in a cylinder bank... right? Take away the odd circumstances and just look at what is happening. This may be the time to make an educated guess. Good luck my friend - this one sounds possessed!

One thing I find ironic is that in the 2011 Super Duty web page there is a section for "Enthusiasts Sites" where there are links to several forums and sites. Not all of them, but many are are full of, or are dedicated to, modifying, and cannibalizing Power Stroke diesel engines... talk about chipping, tuning, defeating FEDERAL emissions devices, racing and screwing the dealers when they fuck up their trucks. I realize Ford wanted to get the word out about this new truck and engine and while "including" these forums may help speed this process it certainly was not necessary by any means as the news will and has spread like wildfire. I realize that this targets the truck buying demographic however I am concerned that this might look as though Ford condones these web sites and their content. Whilst some are responsible reporting venues others are a well known hot bed of trouble for US. I feel like Ford is warning US about modifications neglect and abuse while saying something different out of the other side of their mouth. I just find this ironic. Am I reading too much into this?

NOx forms during "peak combustion temperatures" which must exceed 2800*F (1500*C). The DPF in our beloved Ford trucks operates at temperatures less than half that at the most. Remember that the engine shuts down when EGT13 breaches what... 1200 or 1400? (don't remember the exact figure - will look it up and correct) As Mr. Jim pointed out EGR is only part of the total emissions control scenario. In 2010 we will see diesel emissions shadowing gasoline engines. SCR which we will see with the 6.7L PSD will further reduce NOx emissions - urea injection - ammonia reacts with the NOx...

And if your head isn't spinning enough right now, see THIS TOPIC too. I had a rough one that ended up being loose and dirty power feed at the battery positive cable. I realize this was an older truck but there are some other things to consider if all else fails.

According to the diagnostic code chart a P0297 will NOT set the MIL or the WRENCH lights. I have seen this code by itself. Glow Plugs curcuit DTC's will turn on the MIL for F250 and F350 for the 6.4L

I pay about $605 a month for a family - that's medical and dental. I know I am not Canajun but I thought I would chime in. Two children and 3 hospitalizations were paid 95% or better...

We swapped one in today and I took it for a spin. It is neat if you have a purpose for it. It will make a really good light delivery vehicle and if outfitted properly it could make a good vocational vehicle for light tools and equipment and supplies. The cargo area is large and cube like with large square door openings which would allow for nice racks or bins to store and organize "stuff." Loaded up I predict it will be a total dog with the 2.0L engine and the general feel of it was a little cheap though not quite cheesy. How's that for a review?

Cust. Convinced its an EGR Cooler
Keith Browning replied to BLittle500's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Yeah I had a bad EGR on a bus not too long ago. Never set a code. Ford bounced the claim despite my description of what the valve was doing and the driveability concern it caused because there was no DTC. If you put an EGR in it make sure you have a DTC documented on the RO. I don't condone lying but you want to get paid... especially if it fixes the truck. -
Well I know the Tow Boss F450 trucks are limited to around 80 MPH and the rest of the trucks used to be limited to around 96 - that figure is what I recall from the 6.0L trucks. I would imagine that the newer trucks are the same. I take it that you are speaking Kilometers? This function is programmed into the PCM. A special calibration would be needed to accomplish this request. I would recommend contacting Ford Motor Company directly with this question.

I personally find these o-rings a little difficult to install and usually require some muscle and a pick to get the deeper ones on. I can see some potential to scrape up the standpipes and or damage the rings. Only the end seals can be popped on with a socket.

I have been waiting for this. Our BG distributer finally came down to demonstrate their diesel EGR and intake cleaner. It made a lot of noise and a lot of smoke which the entire shop objected to. I never touched the truck as the BG rep set everything up and ran the cleaner through the EGR and the intake. Took a couple hours and after all was said and done... I removed the intake elbow and took a look. Then I took a picture. This intake was not bad to begin with. The carbon was light and not oily. Only a slight ridge of carbon was built up around the valve. The truck had 138,000 on the odometer and was NOT in for any EGR related concerns. I am not impressed, neither were my two team mates. I was less impressed with he presentation and the description as to why this was necessary. Apparently BG thinks that the intake runners clog up with carbon - so much so that airflow is restricted. No, I don't think so. We see buildup around the mixer and the EGR ports from the cooler to the valve clog - but not the runners. I think the only truly effective cleaning for serious carbon issues is hot tanking and steam/pressure cleaning. Period. Of course the trucks will run better when the customers pick them up - you also dumped a can of cetane and detergent in the fuel tank!

Fluid Reference Charts
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
I have considered this for some time but it truly hits home with what we have been learning about cooling systems and heat exchanger failures. We still use city water at my dealership. We have no clue as to the mineral content of it. We don't have any guidelines to say whether it is acceptable or not, even if we did know the test results of Morristown's h2o. -
