  1. Yep. You see it all the time and as a foreman/team leader it is something I must deal with on occasion or at least pay attention to and monitor. I currently have a young tech on my team that I am impressed with in that he has natural ability AND he sticks his nose in the manual most of the time as needed. I also have a "tech A." When "tech A" is near I need to watch with care as many of his methods and "shortcuts" have proven disastrous - repeatedly. I am fairly confident that "tech B" has identified "tech A's" flaws and sees the bigger picture. I have his back. We also need to make sure that we don't over police our coworkers as well. You need to see guys that work together - working together - identifying that fine line between being helpful and being distractive (destructive) is important. My new approach in life is to find the good in people and not emphasize the bad in them and I have been applying that to my profession too. Therefore I encourage "tech A" to be helpful when necessary as I do any of my coworkers. If a shop full of guys cant work as a team they are destined to struggle in finding success. I just need to be aware of potential problems before damage control is needed.
  2. I just ordered a case! I'm gonna make reeeeeal good time on those 6.0L head gaskets now!
  3. Looks like he needs a last day rally guys! I went through over 25 pages of pups in that contest and I only saw one dog with more votes but he needs like 30 to 40 votes to overtake. Take the 30 seconds it takes to click on the link and vote!!! http://www.cutestdogcompetition.com/vote.cfm?h=071A765B3F38198CEA6F620B96E75D71
  4. I Googled that some time ago. I am shocked it took THIS crowd as long as it did before someone commented on it. Now it is time for drinking... for sure!
  5. Here are a few of the discussions we have had... I swear there are more. I'll keep looking but for now, read on! http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=12775&page=1 http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=12726#Post12726 http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=9690&page=1
  6. I know I have pulled ABS sensors from front hubs on Super Duties and found grease on them and in the bore. Grease itself should have no affect on the ABS sensor because it will not interfere with the magnetic field or the sensor ring... unless there is a lot of metal in it but then I suspect the bearings wold be so loose that the gap is too large or the sensor and ring have collided.
  7. If I dig I bet I'll find it - not taunting you but I know it was put out there and you never could test 2003 turbos as I recall. As a matter of fact, I could swear it's on the VVT set up screen or the help screen in IDS. I used it last week.
  8. It looks like they fixed whatever problems they were having. The site loaded for me today and quickly. Another vote from me!
  9. Same here. Seized or very stuck valves. I have done a handful ranging from the 7.3L to the 6.4L. One engine actually shattered a pushrod... I have pictures somewhere. If this is the case the head will have to come off. I know we discussed this in the past but I cleaned the valve guides with a transmission valve body hone I bought through one of my tool mongers. Reassemble with new valves rockers and push rods and it's good!
  10. For some reason that site takes forever to load - I want to vote again but sheeesh!
  11. I used to wipe the iron parts in the turbos with a really light coating of Anti-Seize when reconditioning them and never noticed any smoke
  12. Windows XP is not DOS based. What you are looking for is the Command Prompt in Windows XP. You can still use many of the old DOS commands. You only have two choices that I know of: [*]Click on: The Start button --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Command Prompt . [*]Boot your computer then press the F8 key BEFORE the windows splash screen then click on "Start Windows in safe mode with command prompt" and follow the screen prompts and boot process until the command prompt screen appears. I also read somewhere that you can take an old DOS start up disk and boot from it but I have not tried that so... Good Luck!
  13. Don't you have Workman's Comp and state disability insurance in Ill? IF that happened to me I would have gone to the clinic for evaluation and filed a workman's comp claim. If I were out that long state disability insurance would have kicked in. I also have supplemental disability insurance (no, it's not AFLAC) that insures me for the difference between what my benefits are and my insured yearly salary. Sweet. But I do hope that I never have to use it and at least if I were to be injured and be out of work I have the comfort in knowing I will not suffer financially and my family will be provided for.
  14. Ghee, I dunno man. There are some really cute pups in that contest.
  15. Thanks Bill. Anything you have that could be valuable I would be willing to add... to what looks like an expanding library in the Coffee Table Books page. We have a ton of stuff that is not there but I am thinking if it were someone would find a need for it. Check to see if any of the booklets you are offering are already there first. I have the IDI turbo book but if there is an older one for the 6.9L/7.3L IDI engines it would definitely need to be added. If you want you can mail any of these to me to digitize them and I will return them to you.
  16. I think I have only replaced a handful myself including one this week - I made a separate post with pictures. I doubt grease was the main problem... stupidity was. I would Rather see people who are interested in the maintenance of their vehicle than be completely oblivious to it. Not to mention oblivious to the sights, sounds and smells of their breaking trucks. Lookie ---> HERE!
  17. This is a major contendor for the Darwin award. This truck WAS DRIVEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP!
  18. I read this on the FTE forum and couldn't believe people are actually dicking around with this. Someone thought that it was necessary to regularly grease the sealed wheel bearing and hub assemblies in the front end of Super Duty trucks. You remove the ABS sensor and somehow make an adapter to feed grease into the bearing. I am okay with the general idea but I don't think this is really necessary - how many wheel bearing failures do we really see anymore?
  19. Is there a specification as to how tight to apply the zip ties? Do we need a spring gauge or go at by feel?
  20. I have a 2000 Excursion in right now with the Check Engine light on, DTC's P1391 and P1393. The relay is shot.
  21. Welcome. I thought the file size was a bit large for what it is. Where did you get it??? I never saw that booklet before. It warrants a scanner.
  22. CLICK HERE FOR THE DOCUMENT!
  23. I thought about it but... Anyway, what he is looking for is the information that came with the VVT tester sensor to be used with the VMM correct? If so I don't have it. Of couse, you do realize this information is in IDS when you run the VVT test along with all example graphics and so on.
