It's a 2008 F350 w/6.4l and Hydro Boost. The truck came in with no power steering and the brake pedal stuck in the down position. You could pull the pedal up with your foot and regain steering but braking was hard - the pedal would still not return. Long story short I am pulling the booster out and removed the steel jumper lines which I pulled of with difficulty. I discovered a white plastic tube like drinking straw about 8-10 inches long stuck in the booster hydraulic inlet. It is a thick hard plastic. I assume it is the inside of the pressure line from the booster. Anyone ever see this?

FICM Dissection. (Possibly a repost?)
Keith Browning replied to Aaron's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I resent that sentiment! Only ONE of my knuckles actually hits the ground! -
I have been in a pretty foul general mood for weeks if not months. I believe the stress of the economy is rattling me and I cant seem to relax. Ironically my mood is even-toned at work because I have trained myself "to be" because I have to. Apparently, everyone else is allowed to be in a bad mood or act like an asshole whenever the fuck they feel like it... but not Mr. Keith! Thank you Brad - I feel better knowing I have company! I am going camping at Camp Jellystone next week with my girls. Maybe I'll snap out of it then.

I place my thumb on the starter button and tap it on my skull. For some silly reason that tends to allow me to make small movements in the crank with the starter and I very rarely over run the torque converter nuts. Similar affect I suppose. I do some really weird things sometimes.

I know on a 2008 and newr truck the engine hour meter can be reset in the PCM. I can't remember if I looked to see if that function exists for pre 2008 trucks

Choosing a camera....
Keith Browning replied to Jim Warman's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
I too am curious as to what other members are using and what they like about their cameras. I have been using an older 1.3MP Sony DSC-50 for this web site which has been doing a decent job, I also inherited my fathers 3.3MP Olympus C-3040 which has a greater resolution but is not as easy to use because of the settings. I have been considering a new camera but I can't justify it right now because I have been thinking about the SLR ones but the cost is a little much... and like you Jim, do I really need it? I have been noticing all of the smaller sized $100-$200 cameras that many of the women in my life have been toting around and sharing pictures in emails. The pictures are really good. I would almost want to suggest asking friends and family what they are using and possibly asking to borrow them for a couple of days to try different cameras... -
Oil Cooler Cutaway Pics

I am more interested in the build up of crud on the coolant side which I attribute to the overheating and failure of EGR coolers. FYI you are my favorite sucker. -

first 6.4 egr cooler failure for me
Keith Browning replied to kevin41's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Steve the idea here is to avoid having to remove the bracket because that will require removing the exhaust manifold and dealing with all that. Once the cooler is out I simply punch the retainer pins out and snake the clamps out. You need to snake the new clamps back in before you install the cooler but the retainers are not needed - I beleive that is for factory assembly purposes... to answer your question, no, I do not install the pins - you can't with the bracket on the engine. -
Ohhh no no no! It is I who is humble to be accompanied by all of you fine gentlemen. Without members there is no DTS site. Remember that. EVERYONE has a role in the value and success of these forums that make them a resource. Thank YOU for your participation and contributions!!!

I have done three myself and #4 for our shop came in yesterday. Pulling the trans is an attractive option for this repair.

If you "cut and paste" the TSB number into the search form on the PTS website it will always return negative results. it also helps to type the number in correctly. You must type the search query into the box... typing in 07-24-4 will return the "TSB Article 07-24-4 has been superseded" message and clicking on the "view most recent article button will take you to the current TSB. I have attached the updated TSB to save time... and to archive it.

Clean the IAT2 sensor. The FICM idea is not so far fetched, I had a truck do strange things at random that ended up being a FICM but I did manage to get DTC's from it. Did you check the turbo for oil leaks, the charge air cooler for oil and crankcase oil level and condition?

STC fitting simplified
Keith Browning replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
As I feared this does not work with my Craftsman wrench. The block was off alignment considerably. No big deal. It only takes about 60 seconds to install the bracket anyway. This was the first fitting I have installed since the new black bracket was released but I have been using a used metal bracket that came off of a truck a while back and it does not flex! -
Wow I remember that!

Actually this is also true with Ford. For example take a Torqshift and compare the planetary gear sets in a gas and diesel application and you will discover there is a different number of planetaries gears. The internals are one thing but the cases for the most part are the same and a bell housing on an "AOD," E4OD, Torqshift or a ZF all match.

6.4l short block assembly
Keith Browning replied to robp823's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
That sounds about right and you aren't going to come to the conclusion that you need to replace the engine without some diagnostics... compression test is basically a must in this case unless there is a hole in the block or some other grand failure. -
I can't be 100% positive on this but it appears to me that all of these engine transmission combinations use a standard shape/configuration.

Actually they do recommend servicing by hours... the Hot-Line does anyway and usually it's on commercial vehicles that are prone to idling... like busses & abmulances. I think the big reason you don't see Ford pushing this is because most of the Ford trucks on the road do not have engine hour meters from the factory. Only F-Super Duty's do and then it's only 2005 model year and newer. Any other trucks with hour meters were upgraded with aftermarket parts. My company has a large fleet division and I used to see a lot of meters installed in municipal applications but in recent years that has stopped due to the OEM meter in the cluster.

Correct. -
Brittle Harness
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Eventually that decision will likely come to haunt him. On this harness I just installed there were several places where there was no protection and the take-off's for the CMP and CKP sensors were the worst. I can see the potential for driveability concerns being high. Did you ever figure out what the chemical damage was caused by? -

You mean IF you are tapped into the head that has the problem.
