  1. I'll second that as there are a lot of assembly details and miscellaneous parts which I never seem to order all at once. If you have never had the cab off or performed any major repairs on a 2008 6.4L I highly recommend that you take the time to read the cab off procedure and engine disassembly/assembly procedure in the manual... at least once. Don't forget that you also must replace all of the cab mount bolts and the steering shaft bolt... details, details!
  2. I would re-verify the cooling fan operation and then I would install a new T-stat and reevaluate. Did you remove the water pump to inspect it and the front cover? Also check your cooling stack for debris. Paper and leaves have a strange way of collecting between the coolers and on occasion I see grass laced in the cooling fins.
  3. I think you are confusing temperature with lubrication.
  4. I think the effects of that hood accident are becoming evident.
  5. Thanx Bruce. I kinda figured it out. Part of my problem was I had a few pressure regulator parts tossed in with the parts I had laying around the bench for a few months. I had the valve completely disassembled and couldn't remember for the life of me how it went. Made me my own picture in case I get stupid again.
  6. Alrightie. Answered my own question, sort of - it's in the Coffee Table Books but I only see the module with a DTRM. I have different parts/more parts...
  7. Alright. This is silly and seemingly simple but I have a good FICM housing that I cleaned and, well, it has been apart on the bench for some time and I can't remember how the return valve is assembled. Anybody got a pic or exploded view?
  8. Did the customer try to take it back to stock after the no crank condition... or did this happen as a result of the EDGE device? Remember, the starter is controlled by the PCM via a relay on these trucks...
  9. But Dwayne, I think that (what I quoted) is EXACTLY what Jim was was trying to point out and that is what this topic is about or at least what I was hoping it would be. There are a lot of reasons and components to the situation we find ourselves in. But it all starts with the individual. Don't like your situation? Do something to make it better or make a change. Focusing on things "you" do have control over - like bettering yourself, doing things to the best of your ability, making the effort to do and be your best every day - will all have an influence and an impact on the people around you, your career, the business you work for and if enough people think this way, the industry.
  10. Did you know the U.S. has the highest corporate tax rate in the world except for one country - Japan. Our current administration wants to change that and put us at the top. Yep. Change you can believe in. Combine that with Tony's theory on Unions and labor costs I can see how companies are no longer able to afford to stay in the U.S.
  11. My bubble shrinks... But I do have a plethera of rust fuel tanks!
  12. I must live and work in a bubble. I have never seen one leak and I have only replaced one because it didn't work... if I recall correctly.
  13. No need to apologize!!! I am just doing the Moderator thing and making sure we don't wander off topic too far before we get it started. Besides, I stepped in it myself.
  14. Jim put this worm in the water in a different topic... I feel the concept deserves to be explored. I'm all ears. You, gentelmen, are all members of a venue willing to put the intellegent voice of professionals out there. Anyone care to bite this worm?
  15. I have Continentals on my 2007 Freestyle and they wore evenly alright. Worn evenly on all four tires right down to 4/32nds in 16,000 miles. Fucking garbage!
  16. Yes. You will likely need to use two TSB's: TSB 07-23-14 to repair the cooler and system and TSB 08-23-1 to address severe cooling system contamination. I would also contact the Hot-Line and review it with them and ask for further repair recommendations such as replacing ALL rubber hoses and testing the EGR cooler which may have been damaged as a result. I just finished up an oil cooler repair on a Econoline bus. One thing that made life easier was that I flushed the cooling system before disassembly getting the oil/coolant whip looser than it was. I used floor soap initially, then post repair I used the recommended 3 gallons of Simple Green and then another flush with the iron cleaner.
  17. I will vouch for that statement. I have me a nice pedestal fan right next to my workbench and I have used it to cool many engines over the years. I also have a large oscillating wall fan too. Turn both fans on and I stay comfortable in the hot summer days. With BOTH of my gas fired radiant heaters AND those fans on I can also turn my two bay separate area of the shop into a large convection oven.
  18. You get used to it but it will remain annoying I assure you. If you know what you are doing you will be fine. I am currently watching a coworker having a difficult time. I wont say any more.
  19. That is why they call them waiters! Why should you be expected to risk serious injury due to someone's impatience?
  20. With all due respect, and I do respect you, I feel you are taking this a little too hard. If you know how to diagnose these engines and you follow the TSB you are not going to fuck up. Once you have your test data and the EGR cooler is off the engine and bench tested you know where you stand. I think I have only had one engine that needed both head gaskets and the coolers and have yet to see a comeback as a result. (that I know of) The TSB and the prior approval process is to ensure that we are not over repairing or performing unnecessary repairs. Like it or not, Ford has a legitimate concern and a legitimate right to control the repair process since they are paying for the repairs. Since I have been dealing with this prior approval process mush longer than you I can tell you that yes, it is a pain in the ass and you will find yourself spending time documenting your test results and filling out the prior approval form. There are days when I have multiple vehicles in the shop that require prior approvals that I feel like all I had done that day was fill out forms and push paper - ask Dupont - he has witnessed my frustration many times. I was not able to read the notice you guys were handed but there are two different prior approval processes. One is the Hot-Line process where you must run OASIS and then fill out an on line form. Then there is the Real Time Diagnostic Assistance program where you have a paper form and you have to call in your repair and discuss it with a guy on the phone who traces your steps. I don't have the op code with me here but do remember to add to your write ups "Filled out and submitted prior approval forms" and document your approval codes. Make sure your warranty clerk gets you the .3 hr for the process.
