  1. How bad is the leak? A lot of the time any leak that allows fuel out when running can allow air in when not running but if it starts and runs better with a new filter then it's possibly okay but fuel leaks are never good. A pump that old would probably be best being swapped out with a rebuilt pump or have that one serviced if there is a good fuel shop around. When I see an older truck with a pump issue I just get them serviced. They come back fully redone and calibrated but I have only dealt with Ford New Holland engines and older Cummins engines. Never had to deal with a CAT pump.
  2. Can you sneak the right cylinder head off a 6.8L out of an Econoline? Maybe remove the left engine mount for room? Anyone done it?
  3. From what I am told, piecing out the kit is way more expensive than the kit itself so if you go that route make sure you have the blessing of your rep. It helps if its a down vehicle with a really pissed off customer. FM 360, emails, parts inquiries... the price of customer satisfaction!
  4. We needed one and ran into the same roadblocks. Soooo, the tech working on the truck had the parts list from the kit and ordered everything separately. Truck rolled yesterday.
  5. I am a little confused by what I am seeing. So was this supposedly an engine that was running when this was discovered? It certainly does not look that way in my opinion because if there were pistons on those cylinders that layer would have been ripped apart and the cylinder walls would have been ripped apart. I might believe that this is an engine that had been through the process of spray welding (the actual process) and it failed for some reason... and scrapped or somehow mistakenly sold. If this engine were just pulled from a truck and disassembled there would also be traces of oil, dirt on it and carbon in the cylinders. I see none of that so what is the story? Here is the Ford video...
  6. If you order a new long or short block be aware that to make the engines accommodate both pick up and medium duty applications that the engine mounts and bolts have been changed and may require replacing depending on model year. Also there are two coolant passages on the front cover that will need to have plugs installed on pick up applications... order those too!
  7. I work on Rams occasionally as well and the system as a whole is the same as the Ford medium duty application but the DOC, DPF and SCR are smaller on the Ram trucks. Also on the Ford medium duty there are 6 or 7 different configurations. Now I have done a couple Ram recalls and that was to eliminate the intermediate NOx sensor... well Cummins has no recall on them but when I have to replace one I need to convert them from a 3 sensor to a two sensor system if I have to replace the SCR - Cummins TSB 150105 which also requires changing a wire harness and the base engine calibration.
  8. INSITE has an automated SCR test that does a warm up, deposit burn, tests the NOx sensors then tests the SCR efficiency. I ran it twice and it failed both times. The dosing test put out 100 ml with a nice spray and the DEF was 32.5%. I trust the test and the truck is fixed every time. Wish ford had this automated test.
  9. The hole on this recent one was clean when I removed the injector to run the dosing measurement test. I ran the SCR test twice and it failed both times. Good tip though!
  10. I know there probably are not a lot of guys involved with Cummins engines but I thought I would run this by you. I have been using Cummins Insite with the INLINE 6 communication adapter connected with the USB cable to my Dell laptop running Windows 10. It has worked for several years now and suddenly the adapter wont work due to a communication failure with the adapter. I have tried reinstalling the adapter after downloading the files again. Removing Insite and reinstalling it. turned off all firewall and anti-virus. Tried running Insite in compatibility mode. If I look in Windows Device manager It shows a driver error. I cant seem to fix it! So I reinstalled Insite to one of the shops laptops and it works just fine on that... Windows 7 pro.
  11. I am not necessarily over run with these but for the volume of medium duty trucks I see there have been a number of SCR catalyst failures in my shop. These would be on the ISB 6.7L of course. They fail for efficiency with no real detectable reason either. I was wondering if anyone else sees these failing.
  12. If you have ever ordered Snap-On tools online, when filling out the information form there is a check box used to indicate if you have a dealer... which I leave unchecked but I don't trust it 100%.
  13. I understand the franchise thing and territories therefore I am not comfortable with turning to another dealer. I get that. But as far as I am concerned the guy who is SUPPOSED to take care of me has made a conscious decision NOT to bother with me I it is my opinion that he is not my dealer any more nor do I want him to be. Since he has decided not to do business with me he has no right to any commission or profit. This is why I am considering contacting Snap-On and ask that I no longer be tied to him and his territory. I have no problem ordering on-line but had no idea that I could warranty tools with them directly. Thank you for the tip!
  14. What would you do? I have been in the business 30+ years and don't see retiring anytime soon. Like all of you I have a decent amount of tools and a nice big shiny tool box with a good amount of Snap-On tools in my Snap-On tool box. At this point in time I still purchase new items and I am in the need to replace a lot of old stuff that is simply worn out, broken and stuff that has been lost over the years. My story is that for some time I was supporting my family one paycheck while my wife cared for and raised our children. With money being extremely tight there was not much funding available for tools so I infrequently purchased anything. Almost two years ago my Snappy dealer stopped coming to visit me despite being in my shop every week and the reason is still unknown to this day so I can only assume that since I haven't purchased anything for a while that I was not worth his time... therefore he is no longer worthy of my business. I am quite pissed at this guy and have lost respect for him to the point where I really would rather not deal with him at all to be honest. I could be the bigger man and confront him but at this point all love has been lost. I am not the only one who feels this way but other guys need to buy tools so they do. But, I do go onto the Snap-On website and have entertained the idea of knocking on the door of another dealer who loves close to me in my neighborhood. Either way I am afraid of causing problems for this dealer and If I buy tools on line I do not want the dealer that is supposed to be mine to have any involvement or receive payment for the products I purchase... if that happens. I am tired of sneaking around. I am also considering writing Snap-On corporate with my story and to seek a resolution. Opinions?
  15. We are waiting for an install kit as well and NOBODY wants to give one up! One of the parts in the kit has an engineering/part number change.
  16. Is this written in stone? I am always skeptical anfter some of the promised diesels that took many years to come to fruition.
  17. I am sure that Bruce will have some good advice for you. I believe he uses the Pico scope or at least he has mentioned it numerous times.
  18. Either exhaust or intake will do that. A damaged or stuck ipn intake will cause low compression and popping from the intake BUT exhaust valves not opening will cause a more severe pop noise from my experience.
  19. Does anyone have the adapter for the 6 lug transit HD's? it's a 6 180mm and Rotunda sells one but there are no specs for it. Pro cut sells a set but we only need the 6 lug. Part number? What do I need? Spacer too? Rotunda sells the 50-696 Pro-Cut sells the kit: 50-TRANSIT Ford Transit Adapter Kit Fits full size Ford Transit single and dual wheel models. Includes: 50-696 adapter, 50-934 adapter, & 50-962 spacers.
  20. From what I have read the voltage upgrade itself is not always noticeable nor does it do anything for reliability as the higher voltage stresses the module more so than the stock 48 volts. If you are having bad stiction issues other than replacing the injectors or sanding the spool valves (we discussed that here some time ago) you could try changing your oil to 10W30 or even 5W40 synthetic to see if that helps. Then there is Hot Shot's Secret Stiction Eliminator which has decent reviews with claims of 90% effectiveness. I have never used the product personally though.
  21. We are a Cummins service dealer plus we sell medium trucks so we need to be able to service the trucks equipped with Cummins engines. our ability to recalibrate/program ECM's is related to the INSITE software level that you purchase. We have an INSITE Pro license which will let you do that.
  22. Apparently my INLINE-6 cable between the adapter and the PC is causing communication problems. Moved it around and got it connecting again but now we have to buy a calibration.
