I can see a reflash claim bouncing for NOT writing it up "AS PER TSB 09-07-11 and citing one of the listed conditions or DTC's.

I don't know what you are reading but as I look at this TSB I take this AS my authorization to reprogram PCM and FICM modules for the given symptoms and codes. We were previously told we were not allowed to reprogram modules on pre 2006 model trucks without authorization: TSB, FSA or HotLine direction. Well, here it is and this TSB simply updates TSB 07-5-4 and TSB 08-26-3. The warranty status states that a recalibration under this TSB is covered under the provisions of the new vehicle and emissions warranty. Above and beyond the specific DTC's listed the symptoms are pretty broad in my humble opinion: "hard start, no start, white smoke, lack of power and running rough condition after starting cold engine start up." If that isn't sufficient reason to update the modules then what is?

That would be the idea. Hey, you see dash mounted switches on some trucks, Banks Six Gun? Remember the 'ol sport/economy switches? -
I don't remember where I had heard this but before the 6.4L hit the streets someone mentioned the possibility of there being two engine calibration options. One would be the normal high powered calibration and the second would be a de-tuned version, the idea was one calibration for towing/hauling and the other for light duty and fuel economy. I never heard of this anywhere again but it is an interesting concept. I am not sure that this would fly if it meant that owners were locked into either calibration but if Ford were to take a note from what some of these aftermarket tuners can do perhaps they could offer some sort of factory tuner that could be switched from an economy setting to a power setting when needed. A switch on the dash with some goofy indicator lights... they like that and it would be a useful option. I am not sure about the logistics of it but I think the concept is a good one. Now THAT is a better idea Ford could promote and MARKET.

So he was given an estimate for an oil change, fuel filters and a turbo? At 36K I don't feel sorry for him at all if there are no oil change records. What is the condition and level of the engine oil? Is 09B08 open on this truck? Just curious.

Heh, how much you want to be someone has tried that? I installed a set of head gaskets today on a 6.0L (fun thing to do after raking your lawn out) and I saw the link to the video... no can see! I have trouble with most of the video on Ford's web site.

Well shit! If we were told about this in the first place there probably would be no issue. The fact that IH sells a plug for it that probably comes with instructions to boot you have to wonder what the logic was here.

I have now had two people from Ford tell me we should see the Scorpion around February and someone from my dealer was told the same thing today while at some Power Stroke meeting. My FSE was thinking it might be sooner but had nothing else to say. I have also just heard that the 4.4L is a definite go now and will also be available in the Econoline along with the F150/250 and Expedition. This is an unsubstantiated rumor of course but it comes from a good source. Don't shoot me if I am wrong... just passing on what I hear. -
You and me both. Think bed plate sealing surface condition. Have you ever really looked closely at these cylinder heads? The milling is pretty rough on many of these engines. Rough enough that I seriously question why Ford is so adamant about non-abrasive cleaning procedures.

By checked for the electrolysis issue I assume you mean TSB 06-21-19? How confident are you in how thorough the TSB was performed? As a fleet dealer that sells may police cars we have seen quite a few Crown Vic's with this issue that have a lot of add on equipment... good grounds are important. -
Ah, so you need to update the plug? Good to know. I think we opted to advise the customer to replace the pump at 140,000 miles.

In theory it should. I am a big fan of what Caterpillar did with taking EGR gasses post-DPF, running them through a cooler. -

1994.5 - 7.3L Oil Pressure Adapters

What a jackass I am. So that tool number is not listed anywhere (except the service manual and the diagnostic sheet) so I start looking around for adapters to make one. Not an easy thing to do with straight thread o-ring fittings apparently. I figured that since there were no listings Rotunda/OTC wouldn't have it. Bad assumption. Don't give up on the catalog. Make the call and speak to a human. My adapter set is on its way from Rotunda/OTC. $78 plus shipping. -

You could have dusted off the carbon blaster before taking the picture. Funny thing is I just laid eyes on our totally unused unit the other day. It had even more dust on it. -

2001 F350 7.3 diesel

I have been bitten by this myself. You replace two or three injectors that are obviously misfiring then the other five or six start to act up because they are nowhere near as good as the new injectors. Thing is, if you get an older truck with a ratty running engine that has a couple bad injectors, all eight were subjected to the same bad fuel, lack if maintenance or whatever abuse the customer has subjected it to. This is also a great time to run a compression test and do a base engine health check... before you install the injectors of couse. -
Hmmm. I don't think that is even possible. I just performed a recall requiring all 8 injectors. They have absolutely no way of tracking which cylinder any given injector is installed and I can't even gaurnatee you that the used part (core) goes into the same box the new injector came out of. Can you? they may be good at tracking what went in at the factory but after that? He he!
