  1. The only drawback to head studs and machining anything is that you and the customer will own it if something goes wrong. Considering the modifications this guy has I doubt this is an issue but you will want to cover your ass and be 100% forthcoming with the facts.
  2. If it is a 6.0L there are known chafe points at the PCM bracket, the A/c lines next to the PCM, the front of the left valve cover and (I think) the dipstick bracket. All of that is in the same localized area. Remove the intake tube between the air filter and the turbo inlet pipe and you should be able to see if there is anything funny going on there.
  3. Quote: the manual compression readings were 300-315 on most cylinders except #2 it was at 280 psi. cylinder walls all look ok. Compression is too low. A healthy 6.4L should have over 400 PSI. The ones I have performed a manual compression test on had an average of 425 PSI on good cylinders. Remember, these engines have individual injector fuel trims and can compensate and mask problems. Ask me how I know.
  4. Hmmm. Coolant overflow? Hooting noise during and just after hard acceleration? Heavily modified? Two words. Head gaskets The hooting is likely the coolant cap venting. I suggest following the diagnostics in TSB 08-11-3 for coolant overflow.
  5. Well it finally arrived today - 5 days late. It is a line engine.
  6. It's all evidence that there realy is a Ford BORG!
  7. Don't apologize! This forum is about sharing information and learning right? Beyond that, you have been a supporter of the DTS since the beginning and our longest advertiser - sell your trinkets, talkies and leaflets as needed.
  8. I wonder who is really going to bear the burden on this one. It is Navistar's engine and Siemens' fuel injectors. Knowing the root cause of the problem leading to this recall would answer that question. I can't see this being a a problem with the external o-rings because I would think the "fix" would simply be new o-rings. No, I'll bet Jim's next paycheck the fuck up fairy had a hand in the production of a run of identifiable injectors as evidenced by the affected VIN#'s and specific cylinders. The varying number of injectors per engine and variations of cylinders probably eliminates the possibility of an installation/assembly issue... remember the injectors that were tested with reversed electrical polarity? This reminds me of the leaking 6.0L injectors that were leaking fuel externally filling crankcases, taking out turbos, causing runaways and melting pistons. Yep, it's deja vu all over again.
  9. Okay, Ill concede that a WEEK is more than ample time to cover basic electrical.
  10. Personally I think a lot of guys would benefit from a basic electrical course or a refresher for many of us... myself included.
  11. How about "Do not replace the GPCM heat shield clips?" Who the hell can get those off without destroying at least ONE if not all three? I know I cant!
  12. On top of that I find torquing the fuel lined on the right bank to be challenging. I cant be the only tech that finds this to be true. I hope this doesn't create more problems than it is intended to correct.
  13. Alllllllright! I see how it is! We'll see how many oil changes you can do next week!!!
  14. Customer Satisfaction Program 09B08 - injector replacement for certain 2008 and 2009 Super Duty trucks with 6.4L diesel engines. Oh what fun! I attached the first three attachments for your reading pleasure. Have fun! You will love attachment 09B08-3 with the vin list that indicates which injectors need to be replaced. How do they know? I see the fuck-up fairy has visited us again.
  15. I see the fare is the same almost everywhere. I have a lot of super sized shit sandwiches, not only for myself but plenty to dish out to my teammates. Ain't that right fellas?
  16. That one wont work Larry as the locating tabs on the ends are not spaced correctly... in fact, the one I suggested wont work either as they simply dont fit around the sensor.
  17. I have three from salvaged harness' I'll sell you one for a couple grand! If you REALLY need one and there is no big rush I could toss one in the mailbox and send it off to you. Have you looked for a different connector that might work? WPT-357 maybe?
  18. I recently had one that was using coolant and it was the horizontal EGR cooler. I bench tested it and I had to jack-up the pressure beyond the instructed 30-PSI before I saw it fail. I use a hand-held propane torch to heat mine up. From what I understand low coolant levels from leaking radiators is a common cause. Mine had 2 radiators go before the venturi-T was installed. Good Luck!
  19. Today I pulled in a 2006 E-Bus I diagnosed that #6 injector is blowing combustion gasses into the fuel system. Took me a GOOD 2 hours just to get the left valve cover off. The middle bolts on the bottom are difficult for me due to my Pop-Eye forearms... and this is the easy side!
  20. Believe it or not, short block and an oil cooler along with two injectors and all gaskets/bolts/etc BLEW the cost cap once labor was added in. These things are not cheap to fix!!! Got a DOES II engine coming which is cool but sucks at the same time. I spent time stripping this engine and pulling it apart only to have to put it together and only get paid, what is it, 1.8 or 2.3 to determine engine condition? I don't remember the time but I just know I am taking it in the cheeks on this one. AGAIN!
