  1. I didn't know that was serviceable. Ford has told us (at our dealer anyway) that if we have a leak there to replace the manifold. If this is wrong then I am about to learn something but I cant see buying a socket for something I will probably never replace. Who knows! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  2. You should check OASIS. See TSB 07-21-1 DUAL FUEL TANK - ONE EMPTY - FUEL DOES NOT TRANSFER The dual tank system uses a fuel tank transfer pump that relies on both fuel level sensors to operate correctly. Fuel is draw from the right side tank only and as the transfer pump reads the level dropping in the tight tank, it pumps fuel from the left tank to even the levels. The TSB diagnostics are easy. I have replaced quite a few sending units... there is a revised part. I have only seen two bad transfer pumps. Also, see THIS TOPIC for another discussion on this concern.
  3. So the saga continues. Thought I would update this now because things have gotten significantly worse: Cat is willing to help, but they really don't think it is a CAT problem, Ford is clueless and Allison is offering no help. The customer is irate and it is now a legal matter. To add to the fire, I have confirmed 4 more trucks in our inventory with the same problem and now, finally, reports of another truck in St.Louis. This has people high up involved now. I replaced the harness between the firewall bulkhead connector and the CAT ECM - what a bitch! Cleared the logged codes and we have put at least 150 miles on the truck... so far so good. I checked for the code's return. I am now on to the next truck that also has several particulate filter temperature and pressure sensor circuit codes. Mind you, these are all logged DTC's and never show as active codes. Again, we are focused on the harness. Between the EVTM and access to CAT SIS WEB I have been able to piece together the wiring. Why cant Ford do that?
  4. I am currently involved with 5 2008 F750's with big problems. Earlier this week I replaced the OEM/ECM harness for a C-7 CAT. Nobody seems to be able to give accurate information on these trucks but I can tell you from my research that the ECM power and ground circuits originate from the batteries and end in a two pin connector near the starter for all three engines. The wires look like they are about 8 or 10 gauge wires, BK/WT and BK/GN and the OEM harness side has a tag on the harness that says "ENGINE ECM CONN."
  5. Larry's an ass? what? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
  6. Absolutely. Here in NJ where we use more salt on the roads than we do on our popcorn the trailer connectors are susceptible to corrosion, especially the contractors that beat the shit out of them.
  7. A fault with the system itself will cause a TBC fault and an error message on the instrument cluster. Wiring faults and the pressure sensor on the master cylinder are the most common problems on the truck side of the system. We don't see a lot of problems with this system though.
  8. That is a nice large display. A lot are around 5-7"
  9. I have been eying up those digital picture frames myself for some time now but I haven't been able to convince myself yet that I should spend money on something like that. Your post is convincing. Perhaps I should take a new look, I'll bet the prices have dropped a little since last year.
  10. I had to replace an EGT 1-2 sensor and the harness pigtail because the connector had not been secured and it melted on the flange where the DOC and DPF bolt together. Another dealer had been messing around with the truck and apparently left the connector un-tethered to that plastic clip taped to the harness. The clip was not damaged so I an only assume the connector was not put back onto the clip. Had the clip or the hardshell connector been broken I would have respected the tech if a zip tie was used to secure the connector away from that hot DPF. Just thought I would point this out... that connector is one that MUST be secured!
  11. Good for you we are supposed to get some ice and rain today.
  12. Mine. They are only little once and time goes by too fast. Enjoy life whilst you can...
  13. Oh how I understand that statement! The hours I have spent developing this site and playing around on all the others. Fortunately the hard work is over for the most part and I have been able to pull myself away from my office more and more. Spending more time with the little ones is priority one.
  14. I also recall a ballsy statement he added about techs wasting time during the day and so forth... wish I could find that text to quote it accurately. A head gasket job for me is legitimately about 16+ or so hours, doing both heads, meticulously cleaning the gasket surfaces, cleaning and replacing injector seals. Oh, does this include diagnostics? Unfortunately for me, in my position as a team leader/foreman I am constantly interrupted or jumping on and off jobs therefore it is not uncommon for ME to have 20-25 hours PUNCHED on a head gasket job. My point is that you don't hear me complaining and if I were a ball of fire I also would not be bragging. I was going to comment that we are being too hard on these guys but after some real thought, some things really need to be left out of the mainstream. Common tips and tricks are okay but, well, you know? After all, Ford corporate employees are just doing their jobs and yes, they are here too. So lets give a warm hello to our resident warranty spies! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/flamethrower.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/readthis.gif It would be great to have open dialog with some of you corporate guys and gals but I understand the environment you work in in does not favor such activity. I don't think that SLTS Review sheets are the answer.
  15. You know, I have joined and participated in over 12 forums/web sites including iATN. I haven't been back to most in quite a while now including iATN. In fact, now that I think of it, I haven't been back to ANY other forums for a while. I think I am finally fed up with the wilderness and dealing with, well, you know. At least with iATN you are dealing with "techs" and I would rather interact with them at this point. I just simply don't have the time and I still get the emails everyday which I delete. Hey Bruce, does Charles Ledger have an objection to the DTS or is he simply not interested? I realize he publishes the "Dieselmanns" web site - I don't consider other publishers as competition - I ran into that issue with Jason Lester (TDS) and as far as I am concerned, its all good - its about the information and I don't compete with anyone. Just doing my own thing! He is welcome here. Anyway, thanx for extending the invite to him.
  16. That might explain the high EGT's... he had his afterburners lit! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eeeesh.gif
  17. Who said I didn't notice? Man, you guys are layin a guilt trip that sounds like my wife's doing! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
  18. The short filter goes in the 4.5L Power Stroke in a LCF.
  19. How did I let THAT happen? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/notworthy.gif
  20. I haven't seen any over temperature codes or failures but I have had several EGT sensors go bad. All of them had circuit codes and I was able to verify the faults. I read the code description and it does say that this could be caused by operating conditions which is strange to me, strange that the ECM is not programmed to recognize the temperature rise and stop regeneration if it is occurring long before the 1526 and 1742 degree F marks. Did you call the HotLine and see what they may have seen and what they have to say?
  21. Good find on that article Jeff. Id doesn't support the idea that using a diesel engine is mandatory but explains why diesels are preferred. I didn't realize just how high of a percentage Ford chassis were used for these types of vehicles.
  22. Who needs stronger wrists? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif
  23. Today I performed a PDI on a 2008 Econoline with a 6.0L in it. No aftertreatment system, no DPF, just the same catalyst and muffler. This thing couldn't possibly meet 2008 emissions standards could it? Do you think Ford is paying fines or something? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
