  1. I guess that explains why I haven't seen as much of you around all the venues lately. At fist I thought we lost ya! The last I mentioned, I was down several techs and unable to keep up with the work thus turning away customers. You would think that situation would mean I am busy and productive but the two if us are beaten down working on nothing but tow-ins, engines and rust buckets whilst the "car team" takes our light work and services to "help us out." /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/scratchhead.gif It has been really hard on me mentally and having a new writer has been no help to me at all. I am still on the fence with him both professionally and personally. He has stepped on my feet with respect to dispatching resulting in nearly halting all productivity. Whats more he has lost his temper with me for no reason, cutting off any constructive dialog and running to the manager like a child tattling. I have lost respect for him and will speak to him only about customer vehicles and necessary business talk. I should probably change my approach to that... On the bright side, my SM just had a bunch of interviews for techs for my team. Looks like I will be gaining two techs soon, hopefully. I am looking forward to a "fresh start" come the new year. I'm holding on for a couple of weeks then I am off for the rest of the year. Much needed down time.
  2. Bill, there was never an article or instructions on removing cabs from pre-2008 truck on this web site. I had once considered posting one and had even taken pictures for doing so including the Econoline. I decided against it for liability reasons and the fact that it had already been done. You might be thinking of the procedure posted at FlatRateTech.com which is where I originally saw it. I am not sure where it is exactly as I haven't been to that web site in months... or any of it's spin-offs for that matter. Perhaps someone can provide a direct link to it if it still exists. I have no problem with a link or a file upload here in these forums... I just wont publish or post it where the general public can access it.
  3. Sounds lie you guys north of the border have it a little rougher than we do but it's not all rosy in the FMC Dealer message boards either. There seems to be a lot of censorship there too. The irony is that these are all things that the Mothership really needs pay attention to.
  4. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hahaha.gif Hi, Chris..... I think I may have earned the title of "soapbox king"..... You can't bring up any subject that I can't spout off about....
  5. Welcome to the DTS Chris. There's a few soap boxes laying around here so try not to trip over any, you should fit right in here! This topic serves as evidence of what can go wrong. Not knowing the people at the mentioned dealer we can assume that poor workmanship played a role in this unfortunate sequence of events. Perhaps it involves individuals who just don't care, don't have the aptitude or lack the skills. For years now we have been hearing horror stories about poor service and ineffective repair attempts at dealerships. There are those who are skilled, trained and have a lot of pride in what they do. You sound like you are well on your way to becoming such an individual. Continue to learn from this technician you work with but take the time to ask yourself questions and learn to find the answers. If you like working on these trucks and engines, you will quickly become a valuable asset to anyone that hires you which can yield many rewards. What do your friends do for a living and what are they smoking?
  6. In addition to that, should you make another screen shot, move the time marker to a spot where you are cranking, maybe where the FUELPW is cutting out. This way we can read the PID values at the time of highest suspicion.
  7. Hey, if they are asking for it, they deserve it! I hate misinformation and people who don't know better that start pointing fingers. I haven't been over there yet, I suppose I should see what is up huh?
  8. Maybe they are made in China now. Better wear gloves in case the bracket has some lead in it! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
  9. Are you guys shootin fish in a barrel? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif
  10. What do you do if its blue? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif
  11. Yeah, I can restore it with the last installation files I have on disk. It just pisses me off that you go through the downloading, burning the files on a disk, un installing the programs (as recommended) and going through the pop up form to get a key. How the hell can you release necessary software, lock it with a key and not have enough keys? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/boink3.gif That is so idiotic and unnecessary. I was told to keep trying and when they are available, they are available. I'm biting my tongue. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif I also only need it once in a while and it's not like we have any 2008 LCF's anyway.... but, but .... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
  12. Anybody download the newest release of MD Truck and Master Diagnostics yet? Now this software requires an activation key. Guess what? There are NO ACTIVATION KEYS LEFT!!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif Now that I un installed my previous version before installing as instructed, I have NO MD Truck software. Am I alone here? Think twice and contact Ford before installing the new software to see if more keys have been released.
  13. DOESII engine approved. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
  14. I am not exactly alone but there are times when I may as well be. This tech is a diesel tech but he is usually tied up on big jobs. We thoroughly inspect every truck that comes in and fill out a QCRC. I give him decent trucks that the owners, for some reason "go for it" and I lose him for a day or more doing brakes, front end work, engine work... just spent several days on a 7.3L with broken exhaust manifold bolts that have gone un repaired for years. With two of us, even upselling work can cause problems! We have had some guys interview for jobs but I haven't been told that any have been hired... yet. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rotz.gif I need a four man team and it has rarely been four men properly equipped for the position if you know what I mean. Anybody wanna move to Joisey? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif
  15. Well three weeks later I was able to get the engine out today. #2 rod and piston are in pieces an is the block, upper pan, oil pick up. Maybe I'll get prior approval for a drop in and get this truck back to the owner before Christmas. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif I'll know tomorrow. I am almost by myself now and the shit work is piling up. It doesn't help that I have a new Service Advisor who has his head up his ass.
  16. You mean this? Quote: OASIS SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE NUMBER: 19841 MESSAGE TITLE: 2008 F-SUPER DUTY 6.4L - SERVICE TIP - TO AID IN REDUCING VEHICLE DOWNTIME APPLICABLE VEHICLES : 2008 TRUCK : 00028 F-SERIES OASIS MESSAGE : 2008 F-SUPER DUTY 6.4L - SERVICE TIP - TO AID IN REDUCING VEHICLE DOWNTIME, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE TECHNICIAN REVIEW THE ONLINE VERSION OF THE SHOP MANUAL FOR COMPLETE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT DIRECTIONS. WHEN REMOVING THE CAB TO SERVICE THE TURBOCHARGER, HP FUEL PUMP MANY SMALL PARTS THAT ARE NOT INTENDED FOR RE-USE WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT, (SEALS, GASKETS, WASHERS). PLEASE REFER TO THE PARTS CATALOG TO DETERMINE WHAT KITS ARE AVAILABLE TO AID IN THESE SERVICE REPAIRS. TAKING NOTE OF THE REQUIRED ANCILLARY PARTS AND REVIEWING THE AVAILABLE KITS PRIOR TO PLACING YOUR INITIAL SERVICE PART ORDER WILL AID IN REDUCING VEHICLE DOWNTIME. REUSING PARTS WHEN THE SHOP MANUAL STATES THEY SHOULD BE DISCARDED, MAY CAUSE FUTURE CONCERNS. APPLICABLE SYMPTOM CODES : 400000 ENGINE 499000 ENGINE BASIC ENGINE I don't know what "kits" this refers to but I don't recall my parts guy coming across such a listing. None the less, I thought about this when I did my first cab off for a fuel pump. I ordered parts twice because I didn't realize exactly what I needed. Creating a list of parts required for jobs, like fuel pumps, would be wise. Having a list is as good as having a kit, no? Seems like I always forget something these days!
  17. Anyone experiencing turbo flutter on 2008 trucks? I noticed some trucks will on sudden deceleration but it's a smooth rushing sound, not the bouncy rush like the 6.0L's. I have also noticed this on F550's pulling hills with a steady throttle but that is a cycling release of boost.
  18. Where's my AX! OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!! Actually it is a real pain in the ass. I would take that bolt out last using an ratcheting box wrench allowing the pump to draw away from the engine as it loosened. I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with one for some time. Wow, I really am a diesel bitch! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crybaby2.gif
  19. I have not heard about this but I live under a rock apparently. Do you have any links to articles or information?
  20. I was scrolling through these posts and saw this and thought it was funny that my dealer was still using an NGS up until last month. The VCM took a dump and since support for NGS is long gone, my manager was forced to buy the PDS kit. (Now you can see the reason I needed to buy my own.) We have a shop foreman on the "car side" of the shop that is easily confused by technology so the NGS was good enough for him. It will be interesting to see how he embraces the PDS. It took him a while with IDS but he's coming along.
  21. I got a call from Ford today. They reviewed my feedback I provided in my survey to the HotLine and checked into it. When they changed the parts for the TSB somehow the wrong part number got put in there. The TSB is being changed to correct the part number. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif I bring this up, not as an atta-boy for me but to point out that "they" really do read our comments and feedback.
  22. I recall these engines always being sensitive to leaks. If it wasn't the return collars it was the hoses connecting them rotting out. I went round and round over that with more than one truck back in the day. The rubber crush seals in the fittings were a real pain in the ass too because they might not leak fuel but they can allow air into the system after shut down and cause hard starting problems by making the injection pump lose prime.
  23. P0128 is the stuck thermostat code that was turning on the Check Engine light on early build trucks. Apparently the parameters were too narrow for warm up time. This was corrected with a recalibration some time ago. I actually had a handful of trucks come in with this code and cured it with the calibration. I had one such truck in a few weeks ago and flashed it. Came back today with the P0128 in it. The pinpoint test for the code has you clear the code and perform the KOEO and KOER self tests. No codes means "unable to duplicate." In my opinion the PCED totally throws caution to the wind. Okay. I decided to review all of the testes and decided to monitor ECT and EOT temp and volts. Normally a truck will reach 180-ish idling in the bay. Not tis truck. EOT maxed at around 122 degrees and ECT maxed out at 95 degrees. I raised the idle and the temps dropped, probably because one of the t-stats is stuck open and that fan that wont stop engaging kept the coolant temps down. Stats will be in tomorrow.
  24. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hahaha.gif "Keeps the Hotline from getting their panties in a twist, too." I never had that impression but it is good not to waste your, and their time by not recording enough relative data for them to look at. I printed out the list and keep one in my diagnostic cart. I ran into "lack of data" when working on that 6.4L they insisted had two bad fuel pumps? Yeah. Anyway, I asked if there was a list for the 6.4L yet... not yet... they haven't decided on what is important yet!
  25. Thanx for the info. My manager contacted someone and one is on the way but he said that the cable attaches to the top of the PDA? (HP iPAQ) The HP is similar to my Dell Axim that has a composite connector at the bottom that is for both data and power. It hat what the HP uses? Perhaps someone is confused.
