Now that you mention it, if your dealer is a medium duty dealer (F650/F750/LCF) the IC4 cable should have been shipped to your dealer with the LCF special service tools. Mine was.

I know we aren't supposed to lose them but can we get the 6.oL injector connector clips without ordering the entire injector harness?

Jeff, To use MD truck or the International software you need to connect to the vehicle 9-pin connector using the IC4 adapter. From my own research I have learned that there are two cable options now available. One is a COMM port adapter and the other is USB Since the Ford/Rotunda web site is currently malfunctioning I cant look up the Ford tool number but International had both of them listed. IC4 COM Interface #ZTSE-4729 (uses a COMM port) IC4 USB Interface #ZTSE-4632-USB (uses a USB port) They are made by SPX and you can also order them from your local International dealer or call SPX at (800) 533-6127. For a price of over $700 I would hope that they come with the 9-pin adapter cable but to be safe you should ask when ordering.

Has anyone seen a definite target mileage figure on the DPF ash removal interval? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif The web based training only mentions what it is and vaguely touched upon cleaning. I get the immediate understanding that WE won't be cleaning them but rather replacing or exchanging them.

A year or so ago I had put up a poll that listed all the known oil leak sources on 6.0's. It also had a question about using oil dye to diag these leaks. For some freaky reason the poll and entire post has gone AWOL! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smhair.gif I guess it deleted or did not make it here when I started the new forum software. The original 6.0L oil leak poll disappeared, perhaps it was lost in the import process when the new forums were loaded. I thought that it was a really good poll so I am re-posting it. Just about every possible source of engine oil leaks on a 6.0L PSD shows up at the bell housing sooner or later. Amazing but it's true! So let's try to get to the bottom of this oil leak enigma and collect our own data and come up with the most accurately common sources of oil leaks. Please participate in this two part poll and feel free to post comments as well.

I don't know about the FICM being blank for Navistar applications but you need to get your IT guys to get their heads out of their asses. If the module is blank you will need to program it and likely the PCM as well which means YOU NEED MD Truck up and running. As much as I hate the small screen on the Panasonic I have come to like and respect the IDS equipment. Not a glitch or mishap as of yet for my dealer. IBM computers are great but let's get real. You have work to do and customers to support! I have had my share of computer woes concerning my dealership and CAT software and computers. Got your own laptop or PC? If you are running Windows XP Pro you can load IDS and MD Truck and use it from there. At least then if you have problems you can mess with it without involving anyone 'cause it's YOUR STUFF! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/2cents.gif -

Larry, My team mates and I actually do communicate with our parts department on things WE would like to have in stock because we know certain things can be difficult to get or having them in stock makes the difference between a job getting done and sitting a few days. I politely ask to stock certain items and as long as the computer shows that we sell them more frequently than once a year, my parts manager usually obliges. Unfortunately, my dealer, like so many, are on a tight budget and having too many things stocked can become a burden so I try not to abuse the give and take we have established. But yes, good advice none the less! I do think it may be a little early to stock parts for these engines though. Heck, they may almost never break! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif -

Excellent point HGM! If you have taken the training course you should have embedded in your brain that there are come very important parts, like the injector fuel lines, that must be replaced every time they are removed. Another area is the EGR coolers and piping. Clamps, nuts and bolts that must be replaced on assembly and a there is a specific tightening sequence for the piping. I don't want to be the first guy to take a short cut and have to unbolt the cab and re-do the job! -

The training center itself is cool but the commute... I don't know if you have ever traveled RT-80 through Morris or Essex in the rush hour madness but hitting the GW bridge is the icing on the cake. I would rather drive for an hour than sit in bumper to bumper traffic for fifteen minutes. "I love New York?" Really? Look closer, use a piece of paper if you need to draw a line on the graph anywhere. FICM_SYNC was lost at the end of the event. I am assuming Jim Left the playback bar in that position for a reason. ICP ls way too low for the IPR_DC, ICP_DES and RPM given. My bet is a (as Jim would say) a "pooched" ICP sensor or a leak in the ICP system could do this but if I look at the IPR, ICP and the RPM's only, I want to say the IPR is stuck. At least it's consistent with recordings I have made with a stuck IPR. In any event, the ICP never recovered despite the PCM reacting with an increase in mass fuel desired and raising the IPR. -

Yonkers, uhgh! Only if I have to, the drive on Rt-80 east is horrible. Somerset has an engine already and I would prefer that commute and John Clark as the instructor. I urge my team mates at work to resist prying up on the y-pipe. I have seen all of them really apply a lot of force on it when removing an HPOP cover. As their team leader I have had the opportunity to help "fix the leak" several times. Sure, it allows the cover to come out but it causes the obvious alignment and sealing problems. And yes, I know it is hard to resist, trust me I know. I am human too. Has anyone considered or try loosening at least one of the clamp bolts at each of the manifolds? I figure loosening just the lower ones which are easier would allow the y-pipe to move enough and make turbo and HPOP cover removal/install easier. What will it take, two minutes? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif Just a thought. -

I wonder if they thought of some kind of sub-frame configuration that would allow us to disconnect everything then unbolt the sub-frame and raise the entire vehicle up off of the sub-frame and engine. Maybe leave the trans bolted to the engine as well. -
Nah, just pulling your leg. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif I was feeling giddy yesterday. In all honesty I haven't seen one of one of those engines in a long time so if I ever do come across one that needs a glow plug connector or harness I guess I am screwed too! By the way, are these the round bullet or flat blade terminals?

I started the course before dinner and didn't quite finish. Interesting stuff in this engine and I like how they started out showing the cab off the frame for most repairs. Speaking of training history, I have taken all of the diesel courses to date including the updates and my history shows them as incomplete! Anybody else have this problem? I will have to ask my manager look into his right away. I KNOW I passed them all.Much of the training web site looks updated, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I am going to check my main record on STARS. -

Shouldn't the unit fall under the provisions of service part warranty? SPW. If that were my dealer, we would have to repair the unit, as screwed up as that sounds.

You and your warranty person will benefit greatly if you discuss things like this frequently. Doing so will help your dealer and you get paid if you know how to best write up your repairs. If your warranty person has a better understanding of what certain jobs are and what is being done it will help them do their job too.

I have noticed that most of the theory and operation is now well covered in these web based courses and the classroom instruction is mostly hands on now. The current situation is far advanced than when the 6.0L was launched.
