  2. You know what Scott, creating a certain amount of looseness might be beneficial whereas if the unison ring is free to move around a little it might assist in keeping the carbon off the center. As far as keeping the rust from reforming /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif How long do you think that light coating of anti-seize is going to last? It does have a high temperature rating.
  3. I really don't think it matters where it came from when it comes to getting software updates for it. If you are a Ford/Lincoln/mercury/Mazda employee then you should have access to it as long as the dealers subscription is up to date. You can also get your own subscription for software and calibration updates so pretty much anyone that owns one can get it going. Now, as far as getting one repaired or serviced that might be a different story altogether and at the moment I have no answer for you. I know a couple of guys here have purchased their own. Perhaps they have documentation on the subject?
  4. Recap time! How have you guys been making out with cleaning these turbos? I have yet to see a repeat failure to date. Just wondering what is typical. I HAVE had many that were too rusted (according to the guidelines)

  6. Larry, I think that the major problem with bio-diesel that its composition and quality can vary because there is no standard for it's production and classification. I would try to discover the source of the fuel those guys are using. If there are people making home brew you never know what is in it. This is similar to many things I have read about ULSD fuel affecting rubber seals in older engines. Fortunately I have yet to run into a single problem related to bio-diesel that I know of.
  7. Greg, I often wonder that myself and have strayed away from those sites at times to cool-off... only to return. We all have our reasons for participating. My skin is much thicker than it ever has been. Unfortunately some of "them" just can't get past themselves and discuss a topic without dragging in the same old god-damned tired-ass selfish bitch about the plagued 6.0L piece of crap Ford they are stuck with. No matter how many times we tell them we "get it" they keep regurgitating the same crap and pay little attention to what is being told to them. Fortunately there are a few of "them" that are capable of an intelligent discussion and I thoroughly enjoy communicating with them.   9. I am having trouble updating my IDS software. Our IDS makes it ti the start download screen and freezes, then gives an error warning. I am not sure if it's the Tough Book or our network. Tried calling the Hot Line and they were closed for training. Also, on the Rotunda site the latest version is 45.X but the TSB for the injector cycling states 46! They also mention going to Motorcraft.com. Long story short, I downloaded 45.X from home and burned a disk. Hopefully it's 45.9 and I can update some of these trucks for the rough starting. ON EDIT: Worked just dandy!

  11. Scott, the Power Stroke cover is aluminum and it is not used to mount the rear of the engine to the frame like the VT365 or a C7 CAT, thank God. That makes it much smaller and muuuuuuch lighter. I performed one of those rear engine gear recalls and took note of the cover and thought... "just like a real truck engine." /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif
  12. Did you guys read the TSB? Econolines need a wiring modification that allows the FICM to power itself down. This requires us to rip into the main harness, OH JOY! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rotz.gif The TSB includes a "Customer Information Sheet" that describes what is going on with their truck after it shuts down. At least the Service Advisors will get away with not knowing what they are talking about: "Here, have a hand-out and have a nice day!"
  13. I know some of you have seen this but this is my first. A 2005 with a cracked rear cover from the HPOP Quick Connect fitting failing. I guess that when some of these fittings fail they separate with a vengeance. Either that or the fitting has been rubbing away at the cover for a while and finally pushed through trying to escape!

  15. We have a truck in with an intermittent hard start and the oil gage was showing no pressure for several seconds. I removed a NAPA oil filter, made in Korea (I think) and the base was distorted. This filter too was not the root cause but it's interesting one the less.
  16. Eric, you may not have water mixing with the oil but you do have excessive water vapors in the crankcase gasses. The water and oil can mix as a vapor and condense on the internal metal surfaces or the engine creating that film. I have seen it once before myself and it is strange.

  20. Jay D I saw the OASIS quick start icon on the PTS OASIS today. I did not enter a vehicle session but I am sure I will try it soon. Has anyone used it yet?
  21. Larry, The original key was lost, possibly before the truck was delivered so my fleet department is eating the repair. Without the key code you cant get a replacement key for the existing lock. If I had a master key set could at least get the tire down and install a new lock insert and key. Since I cant do that, the tech is going to have to cut the winch cable to remove the tire and replace the winch and lock and make sure the new key end up in the glove box! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif Oh the wasted time this is causing!
  22. Super duty spare tire wench with the special lock that snaps onto the end of the crank arm is missing from a truck we need to repair. (trying to get a new one) Does anyone know id there is a master key set like we have for wheel covers and tire lugs?
  23. I see that my WDS has been stripped of all module programing functionality. Anyone notice what date this happened? I'm sure it was programed to self destruct on a particular date. I wonder if any other functions were stripped. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif Yeah, I know, IDS is faster and all that but WDS is stored in my shop and it is right there... specially since nobody is using it! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif I guess I will have to finally scrape the cash together for a PDS or make my own IDS if I want convenience. No big deal, I knew this was coming.
