I am coding out a repair on a 2013 SD for SCR system problems. Looking for ops related to the Reductant Dosing Test, PCM recalibration, Manual Regen. I feel lost here. Am I missing I or doe these ops not exist for that model year? Ill keep looking

I would like to know who is buying this stuff at these prices. I don't even talk to my Snap-On dealer, 1- because he is an asshole and 2- I cant afford Snappy products any more. I see (what few) young kids coming in that will never buy these tool storage units. They ARE really nice and I would love a new box which I really don't need... but I'll pass. I have lost and broken many tools over the last 10 years that I can't afford to replace. When I do it's not with a Snap-on tool and my Snappy tool monger walks up, picks up a tool and says "Is this what it has come to?" FUCK YOU! But, on occasion I do order right from Snap-On or find it on EBAY. I am sure that Husky tool box will do the job credibly.

Chassis Cabs so far. Good question.

I don't remember seeing much of this at all over most of the last four years. But recently I have noticed with more SCR system faults reductant coating the tailpipe tips. Not overly surprising but interesting. The reductant mixer and SCR looked okay from inside. Inspecting for heavy crystallization is easy with a boreoscope and basically impossible without. I have also had complaints of an ammonia odor. Never used to get that either. Looks like the moon against the backdrop of my blue roll cart lid.

I keep running into bad G400 ground connections. Some relocated and done so poorly and others like this one at the factory location. G400 supplies ground for the DEF pump, heater and the NOx module(s). No, I did not find it disconnected like this, it has been disconnected and composed for the picture. Say CHEEEEESE! Did I mention this truck is a 2013? Wrenching on rust here in New Jersey.

LOL @ Matt. The box is the right size for a toll box but I figured you already had one. Dangit! Cant beat the price on that one - if it were a Snap-On you could add a zero before the decimal. Am I wrong?

I had a mystery box once. I am still paying for what came out of it. I'll bite. An unassembled snow thrower?

My Own Truck Is Broken!!!

I have heard of this happening from different sources. Indeed it is a simple and unfortunate fuck up. -

I Kid You Not!

THERE you go! -
There were a few new monitors and behaviors programmed into these engines over time. Remember the early days when flames had been recorded coming out of tailpipes? Remember all of the grenaded engines from EGR coolers letting loose due to cooling system concerns? Remember how many engines had worn or glazed cylinders and melted piston crowns from fuel injection problems and elevated crankcase levels from fuel dilution? This was all part of it.

You guys are kidding me right? PooB7 was added in one of those major reflashes we had, a recall if I am not mistaken. We did a shit load of t-stats after that flash came out and had some pissed off customers too because their trucks were out of warranty and the check engine lights were not on... before we reflashed them. Saw a few P0298 Engine oil cooler performance codes as well. God I hate working on that engine.

I was asked today by a 6.0L owner: "If I install a Cyclone Vortec in my intake will it make my turbo spin faster?" I told him I did not know but if it spins the air the wrong way it might stall the turbo. The look he gave me was fuckin priceless!!! Some days it is worth getting out of bed.

You know, that harness that runs around the front of the engine block? The one with unwrapped sections? The one where the alterntor circuits chafe, rot and break? The harness that is a bitch to access and repair? Why hasn't Ford improved that harness after 5 years of production??? We have discussed this before in THIS TOPIC where any of the three generator circuits are affected causing a P0620, P0625...

Just like Momma used to make. Here is an interesting thread found over at the FTE Forums. I agree that this is not only wrong it is irresponsible posting because there's a bunch of other people out there willing to try it... and likely damage their trucks. Urea and ammonia are not the same thing and bottled de-ionized is not filtered or pure. Distilled water is probably not okay either. This guy may be getting away with this in the short term but I am thinking that his days are numbered as long term damage from impurities is probably going to bring down his SCR system. And of course Ford will suck when that does happen. I hope none of us have to diagnose that one.

Part 6 for those who don't count in Roman. Just a little webmaster maintenance. Carry on!

Aftermarket Fuel Tank
Keith Browning replied to mchan68's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
Mike, While I have not installed this exact tank, I have installed dozens of Titan aft-axle tanks. I have never had a problem with them. This includes a couple 2011 0r 2012 chassis cab trucks with the newer type sending units and they went together with no problems. From the looks of it in the picture, that tank is simply larger overall but definitely a bit longer on the front. I am wondering if that extended section on the front surrounds the DFCM which should not be a problem at all. From reading the description it hangs about one inch lower as well. If you decide to install this tank I am interested to know how the installation affects any shields you have around the tank. I have seen one installed on an older model year truck and it just looked like it was a bit tighter under the truck. You WILL need to enter Programmable Parameters and reconfigure the tank size though. If I remember correctly the configuration is in the cluster. I recently had to eliminate a mid-ship tank and install an aft-axle tank and had to reconfigure the tank from 28 gallons to 40 gallons. Good luck with the install - you should be fine. -
Absolutely. I am not so much pissed as I am frustrated by the situation which goes much deeper than a non-trained, unexperienced tech making a mistake that cost me hours and decimated my paycheck. This is what I have to work with. Aside from that, the gentleman that owns the truck is a LONG time customer of the store so I felt especially disappointed and embarrassed for dispatching the job to the tech. For what its worth, the man just dropped $4000 on the truck, mostly to install a new front monobeam axle which was rotted away and mounts were breaking off and this performance issue. He returned the truck within 30 minutes of picking it up. When I began working on this comeback, I was driving it very hard because of the concern. The rear driveshaft tore apart at the rear flange where it is welded to the tube. It is so rusted that the shaft has holes in it. The truck has been screwing with me for 3 weeks. I am feeling a lot of emotions concerning this incident. Anger is only one of them and to be honest, justified.

Well, once I discovered and replaced all of the incorrect parts that were installed with the right parts for a 2004.25 engine, things changed. Boy did things change. The truck actually ran worse but it then produced the right codes. P0069, P0299, P0401 & P2263. After I cleaned the EBP tube, I then discovered that the fitting on the manifold and the adapter mounted to the thermostat housing were plugged up solid. Would have been easy to find the first time. I don't know who to be pissed at, the guy that put the parts in the truck or the guy that gave them to him. But as I calm down I realize that was probably an easy mistake to make.

Checking that thing is my next step MIke as it is the only thing I have not messed with other than pulling the gooseneck off and verifying that it is there and has return tension on it and it springs open. I was looking at the wiring diagram... also, there is no PID for position on the EGRTP, only DUTY%. I forgot to mention that with the correct EGR valve installed it now sets a P0401... along with the P0069. If that throttle plate can fail to close it can also fail to open which might cause the Po401. Being closed when it should not be would be a big restriction... which might cause the P0069. Am I right in my thinking? Can you tell I am shot at this point?
-
I can also verify that the EGR position voltages are different between the two valves at the same incremental positions. So I installed the correct valve this morning. Truck still acts up. This would be funny if it wasn't so sadly frustrating. I am beginning to feel a little defeated right now.

My 6.4 nightmare story
Keith Browning replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Nothing wrong with it? A transmission dowel was bent right? They come with the engine, right? -
Well, it appears a 2005+ EGR valve was installed 5C3Z-9F452-ARM I have the correct valve for this 2004.25 engine in stock 4C3Z-9F452-ARM and will give that a try The Hot-Line agrees with what is being discussed here. At the very least I need to make sure the correct valve is installed, hopefully this resolves the issue.
