  1. I have not done a 2015. What are guys bitchin about and why are they pulling cabs? The clamps are not the easiest to get to but certainly not impossible or worthy of pulling the cab.
  2. Me four. Its a stupid but easy mistake. Make a mess and that cool squirting ketchup out of the bottle sound don't it?
  3. A DEF pump line or injector issue would likely set a code. Cummins runs with a NOx and a NH3 sensor at the SCR outlet. I need to look this up in my training materials but I think its going to be required in the future. My memory is a little fuzzy but the NH3 sensor can check the SCR efficiency but I recall something about excessive heat converting the gasses back into NOx and NH3 under certain conditions... or something *like* that.
  4. A 2013 F550 6.7L came in. Complaint was that there was a strong ammonia odor that the two municipal "workers" reportedly became light headed and sick. I never verified the odor. These guys reportedly took a trip to the local ER and the Hazmat team was called in... their sniffers detected nothing. I verified that the DEF was good. Then I pulled DTC P20EE from the PCM and replaced the NOx sensor then performed a manual regen as the DPF was 95% full. I wanted to make sure the aftertreatment system was clean and working 100% before releasing this truck back to the town. I am not necessarily calling bullshit here but do you think it is possible for the system to load up the SCR with DEF and cause an ammonia odor? I am thinking it is possible. This happened on a 95 degree day with high humidity as well.
  5. Actually, pulling these engines is not all that bad in my opinion. Maybe its because we did so many of them in the past they seem to just come apart easier not to mention the front end has a LOT fewer parts to remove to open up the front. Anyone that has pulled an engine on an 80's or early 90's Econoline knows what I mean. Knock on wood it's been a while since I have had one out. A LOT of the local bus and ambulance fleets went back to gas engines a while ago even though 6.0L engines were still available. I just wish we knew why so many modular engines were losing the top ends.
  6. It is indeed tough. I have always maintained my own personal integrity with regard to how I do my job. FIX THE TRUCK is my primary responsibility and treat it as if I were the customer. But productivity and making money is in fact why we all get up in the morning and go to work every day. It is why our employers are in business. There are techs that are capable of turning many more hours than me. Unfortunately most of them (not all) exhibit a poor approach to the profession. Its all about "me." Poor attempts at diagnosis, over repair (you cant help fix it if you replace everything) and rush it out the door. Some guys just flat out steal and work the system. I cant do that. I wont do that. I stay true to me in that regard. Unfortunately the flat rate system promotes most of this. Illegitimi non carborundum is a mock-Latin term meaning "Don't let the bastards grind you down". I keep a positive attitude because I am at peace with doing what I love to do and the fact that I believe I do it well. I am not perfect. For me the hard part is dealing with the negativity around me. Coworkers. The consumers. The clowns in the Internet forums. It seems to be a constant barrage of negativity. After all these years I have finally come to the realization that letting all of the shit around me get to me makes no sense. I defy it. In some instances it brings me great pleasure and satisfaction to prove them wrong by defying it. Oh. The money? If you are truly good, someone will pay you what you are worth. It just may take some time to prove your value. I may not make a lot of hours but I make a lot PER hour. On the weeks I can and do make decent time because the mix of work coming in the door allowed for it, it makes it all better. You cant look at your pay week to week. Try looking at it monthly and see if that improves you thinking. Of course, if you are starving then you will need to change SOMETHING. Don't let yourself fester.
  7. Yeah Matt, I am hearing all about what Ford wants. 4k for a specific toilet. Really? I guess you can slap a Rotunda sticker on anything and quadruple the price! Awwww. Was that a shot? LOL!!!
  8. Not sure what that is EXACTLY but Ford is deeply involved in the redesign. In fact they are paying a large chunk of the bill. I think this was part of the franchise deal when the new owner bought the place. This has already been delayed more than a year from what I see and hear. Sad thing is, I remember when the old owner bought the dealership and renovated it. It wasn't done really well but for 1990 I suppose it was the typical look. Its an old building with lots of walls and rooms that are not laid out very well. Not to mention its just worn out. The good thing is that the building is a steel framed open structure that can (and will be) gutted and opened up. They are adding a new section of the building for new bathrooms and we will now have an enclosed drive in service reception area. They say 6 months. Those who have been through this before in dealerships guess that we will still have crews on the property in a year. Optimism you know.
  9. Construction, of should I say "de-construction" began at my dealership today. A total rebuild of the entire front end of the store including service... but not the shop. It's chaos at the moment. It should be nice when complete and the renditions look good. This is all way overdue cause the place is used up and run down not to mention out dated. I hope I'm still working here when its done.
  10. In a week it will be just me. Flat rate shop. 30 (?) hr guarantee - car work available if/when work slows.
  11. Beyer Ford in Morristown NJ is looking for experienced Ford A and B technicians and a dedicated truck/diesel technician. If you are interested or know of anyone in the NJ area looking for work please contact me for more information. All of the usual benefits and pay. kbrowning@beyerford.com
  12. I have for the most part only programmed them. None of the trucks needed to regen so I cant say. I see what you mean about the buttons, will look at this closer next time. Sorry not much help for now
  13. Actually it is cheap enough and simple and quick to install. This is for a F450 Cab and Chassis out Fleet department is putting together.
  14. Its fucking AMBULANCE DAY! HOOOOORAYYYY! Four came in yesterday in pairs. WTF!
  15. I accessed PTS Mobile yesterdayand entered a VIN... I am still waiting for it to load the page. It is not an App, its a mobile site... or did I miss the download somewhere?
  16. I thought this was a bulletin. Thought I read it in the WSM. Okay, I an mot sure at all, but I thought so. Can Integrated Trailer Brake Control be added to 2011 and newer Super Doooodies? I cant find any documentation on it. ON EDIT I FOUND THIS:44738 2014-2015 F-Super Duty - Parts Available For Dealer Installation Of Towcommand System TO INSTALL A TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER (TBC) ON A 2014-2015 F-SUPER DUTY THAT WAS NOT ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED FROM THE FACTORY, ORDER A TBC MODULE FC3Z-2C006-B, ANDAN INSTRUMENT PANEL (IP) BIN (8C3Z-2513546-CA). NOTE: THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MUST ALSO BE PROGRAMMED USING IDS SOFTWARE RELEASE 82.01 OR HIGHER. REFERENCE PTS ON-LINE WEB-PAGE TABS FOR WORK SHOP MANUAL SECTION (WSM)206-10, ACCESSORY INSTALLATION AND/OR IDS SCREENS TO ENABLE TBC FUNCTIONS. SERVICE TIPS: REPLACEMENT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER IS NOT REQUIRED ON SINGLE REAR WHEEL DRIVE UNITS (SRW)(UNLIKE 2005-2010 F-SUPER DUTY MODEL YEARS),ONLY DUAL REAR WHEEL (DRW) CHASSIS CAB UNITS INCLUDE A PRESSURE TRANSDUCER BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER, AND TBC MODULE CONNECTORS ARE LOCATED BEHIND OR UNDERNEATH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL RADIO BEZEL WHERE TBC IP BIN IS INSTALLED. EFFECTIVE DATE: 24-SEPTEMBER-2014
  17. I do believe I tried clearing the code and attempting again. Still no joy. Also, the code takes you to a pinpoint test that tests the FRP and the high pressure fuel system. Hot-Line informs me that its most likely an intake leak after the throttle control or the throttle control. So tell me why the pinpoint tests never lead you to testing for that? Unfortunately the owner had to leave so I never got to finish diagnosing it. I am thinking it will be back. I told them to DROP IT OFF next time.
  18. Working on a 2015 Transit diesel, check engine light on and P054E. Pinpoint tests M - 11 and then 13 have me looking at FRP for bias and then control on PPT M13. Interactive diagnostics wont allow control of RPM and FRP. Tried using IDS and PID monitor - wont allow control of the PIDS. I press the button and an exclamation point appears next to the PID. Trying to figure ut why this is but I needed to find a workaround. Tried using the high pressure fuel system test - wont run. Using IDS 96.1 Anyone experience this? Also waiting for Hot-Line response.
  19. Never heard of it. What is it?
  20. Found it. Taped into the harness UNDER the dash. Not up top mounted to a bracket. So much for consistency between manuals.
  21. Attempting to diagnose a 2006 LCF with an active 152 code. Pinpoint test H2 has you access and disconnect the BAP sensor connector C2256 and test the circuits. Okay. So I look at the location page in the EVTM - shows the sensor mounted on a bracket @ the center of the dash. I found the bracket. No sensor. No wiring. I have pulled off more trim, the IC, radio and so on looking for it. In later model years the BARO sensor is integrated into the PCM. So I had to defer to the experts on the product... Meanwhile, the Hot-Line has been working on this one for more than 5 hours now.
  22. I gave up screwing around with this circuit long ago. Only once was I able to find the open or any damage but armed with this information I will scrutinize this area of the harness a little better in the future. But, after an honest inspection of as much of the harness as can be made, I access the harness at the upper generator by removing the Cold CAC tube. Open the harness at connector C1104A and cut the AS circuit 2" from the connector. Splice in a 4" length of 20 GA fusible link. Install the appropriate sized eyelet (that ill fit onto the B+ terminal on the generator) to the other end and seal the connections with heat shrink tubing. Re-tape the harness, reconnect the generator and the CAC tube. Clear the DTC and verify the charging system operation. You can get a bulk roll of 20 GA fusible link from most parts stores. I *think* the eyelet was 1/4"
  23. And in retaliation the nano-bots will weld all of the internal moving parts in the engines so that they wont even come apart... much less run! Muwahaahaahaa!
  24. None of this should come as a new idea. There have been comment made all over these forums about Ford collecting data and I suspect it has been going on for a while. Your IDS log files? Easy to collect. As for audits. I think they should be mandatory. There are dealerships that are Robbing Ford blind.
