  1. PSSSST! Its an UPDATE, not an upgrade. If you're already running Windows 8, it's free. Go to the Windows Store to update to Windows 8.1.
  2. Its a 99 F450. Couldn't tell you the build date because its too old for OASIS to return vehicle data and the vehicle has been repainted... including the vehicle information decal.
  3. Here in NJ things are the same. We put out ads for a diesel tech... and typically we get few bites and from guys that, well lets just say they don't get hired. Recently we simply get NO CALLS at all.
  4. Just so happens that I have that piece of equipment on my bench from another job... or I could install my cut-out box and calculate mass fuel too. I just wanted a quick indication of where to start digging. Mind you that your distraction from the topic does not answer my question though!
  5. Can anyone tell me when Ford removed the PER_DEL PIDs from the data logger in IDS for the 7.3L engines? I noticed this back when I had IDS-92 installed. Kinda pisses me off when they make changes to things that have been around for a long time. WTF!!!
  6. I assume then that Ford will have something to say... they just cant leave us hanging.
  7. Pulled in a 1993 F250 with a 7.3L idi that has a Banks Sidewinder turbocharger on it. As usual the aftermarket air filter and the intake tubing was loose, misaligned and sucking air for god knows how long. The compressor fins are worn and jagged and one (?) blade is bent.
  8. I find this a little unsettling. It is needed less and less for me however there WILL be instances in the future where a module will require programming. What have you heard and from where?
  9. Call it a cowinkidink but the last time I downloaded a full IDS file at work I had problems. I brought my laptop home, uninstalled IDS 93 and then reinstalled it with a fresh download from home. wired and wireless it works like a charm from the word go. Sometimes I have to learn the hard way more than once!
  10. I finally had an opportunity to repair one of these as I snapped off EGT-13 in it! But, I had to braze it on which worked fine. I whacked it with a hammer a couple of times and It is solid. Doesn't look pretty either but it doesn't have to. Why braze? Because I do not have a welder nor does my dealership. As a matter of fact we don't even have a brazing tip for our torch. Yep. Did it with a cutting tip!
  11. Normally I am not so quick to update myself for similar reasons. I tried this again this morning. Left it plugged in. I was able to go into the VCI manager and connect this time and I was also able to update the VCM. worked fine as far as the connections are concerned. I figured okay. Great! So I started IDS and plugged the VCM into a truck and... nothing. Wireless or wired.
  12. After I reinstalled 92 it was still dead. Tried it with the shop IDS - okay. So I had work to do and just let it sit. Later in the day I reinstalled the wireless modules and for shits and giggles plugged my VCM into a truck. Started working again. Perhaps this is a clue. I'll wait until the weekend and try this again at home with a clear head and nothing to rush me. I'll disable the wireless and make sure that the settings also reflect that as well then verify that the VCM connects and communicates using the USB cable before updating to 93.
  13. Here I go again. Downloaded IDS 93 today and installed it and it is supposed to include a VCM update. Now my laptop will not recognize my VCM... or any other VCM. Uninstalled 93 and reinstalled 92. Still won't recognize my VCM. SIGH.
  14. Have you heard the "normal" rattling that comes from a Torqshift-6 with the PTO option? I don't think Ford cares too much about a little noise.
  15. I cant answer your question specifically, but, years ago I had a customer come in with an F350 manual that was extremely hard to shift. He had just been to Jiffy Lube and had ALL of his fluids replaced. Yep. They drained the ATF and refilled the ol ZF with gear oil. Apparently the synchros didn't like that change which makes me think that THEY need to be designed to work with a particular fluid. Perhaps the gear oil is needed to withstand the added torque/HP?
  16. By the way were there any codes and what were they? Metal shavings are never a good sign. Also, this is a crank no start? Does it sound like it WANTS to start? Do any codes REPEAT? I ask this because, like a 6.0L a 4.5L can set cam and crank sensor circuit codes due to low RPM misfires and hard starting concerns. That would make the codes a RESULT of the concern rather than the CAUSE. Just something to think about and consider.
  17. This is one of those large utility bodies with a heavy boom, 2 wheel drive. Does not look as though it has been anywhere near mud in it's entire life and the truck looks the same as it did two weeks ago when I installed the first unit, just under 400 miles ago. We do know and understand that things can and do go wrong, parts can be defective and fail in an untimely manner.Do I suspect abuse? It's not common to see so many major failures on one truck to me, an engine, two transmissions... at least I am suspicious but I cant put my finger on it and probably never will. But, if the truck returns on a hook again I think we will be able to make a good guess.
  18. Well that is a bummer. R.I.P Jim. A 5-Grampy Salute! Make that a 21 Grampy Salute! :grampy: :grampy: :grampy: :grampy: :grampy: :grampy: :grampy: :grampy: :grampy:
  19. I still use MD truck with the IC4 Com adapter and it still works. I cant tell you anything about Service Maxx as I no longer have a license which I never used anyway I *think* because it required a subscription AND I *think* it requires the new USB Navlink . I could be way off on this so if anyone knows different please chime in. I am still stuck using the old set up which works just dandy. The fact that the screen does not appear is troubling however if you password itself is the problem contact the hotline. They can/will reset it for you.
  20. PSE&G F550 utility boom truck. was towed in with a blown engine. We replaced the engine and had it running in the bay, took it out for a road test - the trans would not shift and was burnt up so it got a reman unit. The reman lasted 400 miles and is now sitting on my trans bench torn down to the OWC and I cannot get it out of the case... along with everything else behind it. Waiting for another unit to arrive from Chicago. I am thinking this was a pre-stressed part or somebody is beating the living hell out of this truck. Needless to say, if it returns on a hook again THEY are going to pay.
  21. I have to say Matt that you are without any doubt our 6.0l turbo guru!!!
  22. What causes the Low, one way clutch in a 5R110 transmission to explode?
  23. No go on the Dorman 800-617. It looks almost identical. We had one delivered. The 1/2" line size is correct but the 5/8 threaded end is a smidge too small by maybe 1/8" and has a finer thread pitch than the filter housing fitting. Saaaawinggggg and a miss... well, maybe this was a foul ball. LOL! So we continue to search. It HAS to be available somewhere! Where is Larry - he has a knack for hunting this kind of thing down.
  24. I believe that they are. Out parts guys have been selling filter housings (cheaper than a radiator) to local shops and they have been transferring the fittings over.
  25. Yes, that LOOKS like it but without the specifications on the thread I won't know for sure. But, this is good, maybe my parts manager will order one so we can see if it fits...
