  1. We did that when we were kids - my dad was a real big railroad buff and many vacation trips had railroad related day trips ans stops around the country. Flattened coins were really cool... and I do know that they will not derail anything except a model railroad train. As a matter of fact, I have all of my fathers HO trains - engines and all rolling stock. Our cats used to walk all over dads layout and it was common to find an entire train on it's side looking very much like your wreck there in Slave Lake.
  2. Was Jim putting coins on the track again? What's with the graffiti on the box cars? I though Canajians behaved better than that?
  3. And the winner is! Leaking at the turbo oil feed tube. The dye does not lie!

  5. I have a flatbed in the shop with oil leaking from the top and I suspect the turbo as well. I will put dye in it to be sure and go from there. I'll let you know what I find.
  6. Soooo, you guys are no longer flushing cooling systems with coolers anymore?
  7. I still have a bunch laying around in my gasket and seal pot-luck box. Those o-rings come in several different gasket/seal kits. When I was doing a lot of engines and reseals they started to pile up. I think I even threw away a bunch of them.
  8. With thinking like that Ford would still be making Pintos! Or is it Pintoes?
  9. Here is an article about it... http://www.trucktrend.com/features/news/2014/163_1404_production_officially_starts_2015_ford_transit_van/
  10. Well I got a little pissed and almost destroyed it trying to loosen it.
  11. Mine did this too the last time I used it. There used to be an o-ring or a nylon washer on it if I remember correctly. It is no longer there. Could this possibly have something to do with it?
  12. This was advertised here at the DTS through Google today... http://www.remanautoelectronics.com/product/60L-Oil-Rail-Ball-Tube-Kit
  13. I had to share this. From a tree service LCF that passed through my shop.
  14. In a recent run-in with a 2006 LCF I discovered that the MAF sensor circuit codes it had were causing the transmission to not shift and default to 5th gear. This occurs without any DTC's set in the TCM as well. At least I am sure this is what happened. I know I ran into this once before several years ago and thought I had posted about it. Has anybody seen this too? I am pissed that I did not take the time to plug the MAF back in after I finished with the truck to validate this finding... but I did hold onto the sensor to try it at a later date.
  15. Driving home from work I was passing the Morris County Fire Fighters and Police Training Academy and I get collected behind a State Trooper Crown Vic. If you have ever driven a police vehicle you quickly realize that no matter where you are people in front of you slow down and become perfect little drivers. 5 MPH below the limit too... just to be safe! ;)Any way, in the afternoon commuter traffic we slowly meandered through the winding roads of Randolph with a bit of stop and go and before long I realize this young looking officer is constantly looking down. This goes on for at least 10 minutes. Then he makes a cell phone call. Apparently the young officer did not get to the chapter in his training manual about texting and driving or about using a cell phone while driving... makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to see this kind of shit going on before my very eyes. Especially because these are the very people who see the effects of accidents caused by this kind of behavior and who are responsible for protecting us from ourselves and doing stupid things like that. I wish I could have issued him a summons.
  16. Scroll up about 8 posts here and read... if you didn't access the TSB and read it. It explains the cause for the noise and that it's a normal condition that dissipates. The frustrating thing for us all (vehicle owners included) is that Ford does not provide an explanation as to why this noise typically develops after the first oil change and why it goes away.If I were you I would have printed out the TSB and handed it to the customer to keep and digest. All you can do really is discuss the issue and confirm to him what the TSB states as best you can. I wish Ford would expand on the details of many concerns that pop up resulting in TSB's and FSA's but I guess we should be thankful for getting what little information we are provided.
  17. FMC Dealer access is for Ford Corporate and dealership employees and is considered a portal for sales, service and parts. Assuming you work at a dealership your administrator can set you up with a login and you SHOULD/MUST have access to be able to do your job. Public access is available through the Motorcraft website which from what I can tell is basically the PTS website and requires a subscription. https://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/retail/default.asp
  18. Does the freeze frame data show the boost reading?
  19. Never said I wasn't happy or thankful for what I have but sometimes we do need a reminder. I feel very blessed that I can provide for my family. As I recall Brad moved to North Carolina to be closer to his daughter and new grandchild. I can't think of a better reason to risk the total upheaval of ones life. As I get older Jim I realize that what you stated Jim is quite profound. I have lost several people who are close to me and quite a few people I have befriended and respected very much. I often quote you about being "on the sunny side of the dirt" which quite simply puts things into perspective... especially on cloudy days.
  20. I think that the current economic climate makes this hard Brad. I feel your pain. Anywhere you go you will find that people are living with the effects of high energy costs and a poor economic outlook with only a few exceptions where the local economy is booming. Your biggest problem is that wages where you are lower than where you were. Wages are fairly decent here in N Jersey but fuel and food costs have risen significantly. I fear having to make a change and in some ways I am trapped where I am if I want to continue my lifestyle which is by no means extravagant. Two kids, a mortgage, two cars... where the hell am I going to go? I shop price for EVERYTHING. Take advantage of sales. I rarely buy tools anymore and my wife and I rarely buy things for ourselves as we take care of our children first. My wife does not work either which is difficult because a 2nd income would be beneficial. I dread the thought of taking on another job so I have total respect for your effort. Buck up little scupper - you are alive and doing fine.
  21. Interesting development. The article states that only the E350/40 cutaway and stripped chassis will continue and through the end of the decade? Wow. I had suspicions that the Transit chassis cabs looked a little feeble - perhaps this is part of the consideration. While the Transit has advantages over the E-series it just does not look as robust and strong as the Econoline does with it's full sized steel frame and large V-8 engines which I think makes a difference when it comes t ambulance packages and bus applications not to mention RV's as stated. It almost sounds like Ford had an epiphany. My opinion is that the Transit Chassis Cab is simply not capable enough for these current and popular American applications. You can find examples of DRW applications in Europe though so it is being done. I wish we knew more. I would love to see these two chassis cabs side by side.
  22. Jeez! I only spent about 30 minutes and that included a quick walk out to the Snap-on truck for some new 1/8" drill bits ( too small to sharpen ). Another important tool for broken fasteners is a high-speed moto tool like my trusty Dremmel. Use a small GRINDING STONE to clean up the surface of the broken fastener and if done right creates a slightly conical surface which makes centering a punch or the drill bit itself easier
