  1. Ohhhh don't mind me... I'm just jealous because I don't have a welder.
  2. Sharp drill bits make short work of any broken fastener.
  3. Not to mention the moral side of knowingly and willingly purchasing a pirated product that is illegal and also contributes to higher prices for other comsumers... people like me who will choke out the $ to buy a VCM-2 Ford. In all reality, you can buy a genuine Rotunda VCM-2 and an inexpensive laptop that far exceeds the minimum required specifications for less than the example you supplied above. If memory serves me Bruce was finding E-Machines laptops for $199 or @299 at Best Buy? Yeah, I know. This is about using a tablet as a scan tool but I had to interject.
  4. I have two words for you Mr. I own a welder and I am gonna use it no matter what: [*]DRILL [*]BIT
  5. This was not a nice surprise when it happened & needless to say I was not happy. Two thread inserts later and...
  6. You are ABSOLUTELY welcome to continue to be a part of this community. It's like the Marines - you are in "for life." Good luck with the new job!
  7. Lucky you. I just broke both bolts at the manifold for that pipe. There is however, adequate room to drill out the broken bolts and install thread inserts.
  8. Actually Ford recommends replacing the charge air cooler if there is a lot of metal
  9. Turbo bearing failure -,makes that sound because the compressor and turbine wheels are contacting the housing
  10. The assembly listed above is correct. Mike if you have problems with the pulse-vac system you use the EVAP smoke machine to test for leaks in the entire system from the vacuum pump to the 4X4 hub locks and it works well. I connect to the vacuum line all the way back at the pump and start smoking. Sometimes turning the wheels and the steering from lock to lock helps identify a bad knuckle seal which may not leak in certain positions. This is a quick and efficient diagnostic method. The grooves on the slotted thrust washer in my opinion is a little misleading as it's not the washer that is the problem - it's technicians who insist on applying too much grease to it and the needle bearings effectively sealing the vacuum passage. A light thin coating is more than enough.
  11. I saw the ATG line - they look good but out of my price range. Definately cheaper than a Toughbook though.
  12. I have been looking at HP and Dell - both have windows 7 options available. I am really wanting to add a touch screen therefore it requires Windows 8 to function. There are also PC's available from both manufacturers that come with Windows 7 loaded and are Windows 8 "ready" and even come with a Win 8 license to upgrade in the future. Since I always keep my computers running many more years than most people I like to have them as up to date as possible and so far I haven't heard anybody running Win 8 that has had any really big issues.
  13. Yep - I was just wondering if anyone here was already doing it. I am looking at going with a touch screen as well.
  14. I am in the process of researching laptops and purchasing one in the near future. I see that solid state hard drive are rapidly emerging. No moving parts and 20% faster than current hard drives. ANyone have a computer equipped with one? Tablets and smart phones excluded.
  15. I am curious if anyone here is ACTUALLY USING IDS with a Windows 8 computer?
  16. Had me a 2012 in with the oil warning lit up and the warning tone a beepin. With the talk of bottom end failures we had going on my fears were understandable and I am getting tired of doing heavy work anymore. Fortunately it turned out to be a faulty oil pressure switch.
  17. I might be a little nervous using those. I hear they stretch.
  18. Well whe I do finally buy a VCM 2 I hope they have this straightened out - I like the wireless at times
  19. I don't think using more anti-gel additive will have any adverse affect. When it comes to cetane improvers more is not good in that raising the cetane rating of fuel beyond 55-ish offers no benefit. I have never read that doing so had negative affects as of yet though.
  20. I assumed that everyone here knew what these were and what the need to know about them is. Here is a (lousy) picture of the fuel line check valve from a 6.0L engine. The check valve is intended to prevent puel rail pulsations from affectiong the other cylinder bank. A 6.4L engine has similar banjo bolts at the same location however on that engine the fuel rail in the head is fuel return and therefore no check valve. The banjo bolts without the check valve have a painted green dot on them. Do not mix them up The subject is the check valve can be damaged and create a restriction and low fuel pressure at the cylinder head. I suspect this is what has happened.
