  3. As I recall the number is 6 sequences before the VGTLEARN_OK pid indicates yes. According to the overview handout the cycles may continue to fine tune the PCM after that point. You also need to know that to enter this "state" you need to reset the KAM which also means you need to run a KOEO self test for the PCM to relearn the EGR valve minimum stop value. Cycle the ignition 2 times then start the engine (already at operating temperature.) My own observations have shown me that road testing with hard acceleration from a dead stop and some after a short coast helps with the turbo response. What does not make sense is the repairs made on the truck should not have required this procedure to be performed unless the batteries were disconnected or as mentioned, the KAM was cleared. Regardless it is good to hear is has been fixed!

  5. I have an ambulance in with orange coolant in it that has problems. I contacted the Hot-Line specifically about the use of this coolant and I FINALLY got an intellegent answer to it.
  6. I went through flaming hoops for two trucks. Found nothing wrong doing the same tests. Both trucks came back. I eventually threw an EGR cooler at both. They were restricted but not fully plugged. The last one I did and it was plugged. Did not return any codes KOER. I don't get it. I am waiting for Ford to tell us to just pull the front off the assembly in chassis and scrape the crust off and reassemble it... someone mentioned cleaning them. I wonder how effective that is.

Looking at all of the trucks and busses I have around here they all simply tee in at the heater supply hose not too far from the heater core (not that it matters) and return to the degas bottle - again, simply teed into the hose there as well. So take that info and simply look at the truck to determine the best routing option.
  8. Hope you don't mind Mike - I had to edit your post cause the link did not work... Anyway. Nice share. I have seen a couple pumps do that as I usually take them apart to see if there was anything visibly wrong. Sometimes the inner rotating drum cracks or splits too. The guy is right though, that piece really has no locking mechanism to prevent it from rotating. Ironically the guy installed multiple locking pins which is overkill. I think one pin is more than sufficient.
  9. I probably picked-up on this long ago but I recently installed an engine in an F550 and as usual I was overly critical of how it ran when I was done. I noticed that a 550 has a little bit of a lag off of the line then it snaps to life. They seem a little doggy when compared to the pick-up models. If course we know the turbos are different... Anyone else notice this difference in driveability?

  12. Pissed at the dealer? Who put the fuel in it? Usually it takes a good amount of water in the tank to cause a situation like this if water is in fact the problem. A bad load of fuel does not take long to become evident.
  13. For safety's sake I cringe at the thought of feeling around engines for leaks... yeah, I know, that is the rule for fuel leaks but... I use a mechanic's stethoscope with the probe end pulled off of the end of the tube. Obtain a long thin plastic tube that can be attached to the end of the stethoscope tube to create a wand. If you have one long enough you can slip it in front or behind the cooler. I use this tool/method for exhaust leaks primarily and you can pinpoint leaks really well around turbos or y-pipes, bellows etc.

  16. I have had one or two of these engine give me trouble starting after a pump replacement or overhaul - even with what I thought was excessive purging time with the purge fitting installed. Are you sure it is just not air bound still?
  17. Yeah you don't get that loud whistle sound when the cold side CAC leaks. The one's I remember seeing were split and did make noticeable noise. Last week I had a 2005 with 15,000 miles (!) that blew the right side charge air cooler tank off. Made LOTS of noise.

  19. Well, not to break your balls, but, just because it has new filters and a new fuel pump you should not assume that fuel pressure is good. I have seen a few of these trucks over the years, new pump, new filters and so on... only to find the pick up screen or the relief valve missing from the pick-up and the engine sucking air... or the screens in the DTRM in the pickup clogged pulling fuel pressure down... Get my point? I am not suggesting dropping the tank at this point, but for the amount of time it takes to connect a fuel pressure gage you can confirm pressure is good and elininate that from the scenario and possible prevent yourself from chasing your tail for no good reason.
