What we don't know is if this is due to an improperly tightened pinion nut during manufacturing. Perhaps an improperly set tool or tool out of calibration. A pinion that causes a POP or a PING suggests the pinion nut is "tight" and some pre-load exists. If the nut were truly loose you would have different symptoms like vibration, fluid leaks, rumbling noise and axle failure. Now I agree with the points that there could be something wrong with the gears but to be honest, unless these things were left hanging loose it is unlikely there is any damage to the gear set. Secondly, I doubt Ford would have us load the bearings without good reason, like my opening statement. But since you just never know with the world of Ford Motor Company I guess we will find out won't we?

Oil Pressure Switch
Keith Browning replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Not only that Brad but imagine cruising down the Interstate towing a trailer and the switch fails... and the engine shuts off. At least with a gauge and a warning you can pull the truck over safely and determine if the warning is is a really problem. I would imagine a loss of oil pressure would cause some noise from the engine. -
The oil pressure switch in these trucks is wired to the PCM and then the info is multiplexed to the instrument cluster. I have come across a question as to whether or not the 6.7L would shut down if oil pressure is lost (other than blowing up) From looking at the PCED and the OBD book and the manual I cant find anything that would even suggest such a strategy exists. Anyone know any different?

NO, they aren't totaling it - the adjuster was just yapping. The truck does have high mileage though and that was his basis. Also, the used engine cost came from the same guy... filtered through my service adviser and I agree it makes no sense. At this point it is moot because it was pretty much approved at this point BUT the customer had to agree to some tear down time as the insurance co wants to see the "bad stuff" before cutting a check. In any case, we are all in agreement on the worse case scenario. So I went to car-part.com and you are absolutely right Bruce. Maybe I need to bring this idea up!

Beleive it or not a USED 6.7L engine with labor was only $1000 less according to the insurance company.
-
A quick Google search reveals the answer is YES.
-
Over $21,000 parts and labor. Insurance company might total it. It's wait and see at the moment.

I do my best to document my repairs sometimes even snapping some digital images and printing them to be included with the repair. Larger repairs have always gone straight into review... perhaps that is due to the "new dealer" status I can't say but I frequently have to supply an update or further explain a test that was performed or why this or that part was replaced. My write up for my warranty administrator usually involves a little sarcasm which she carefully edits out. All the idiots at Ford are looking to do is keep warranty expenses under control and make sure us idiots in the field are not screwing up on their dime. Understandable but annoying. Sometimes I wonder if they have flags set for individual technicians for "special reviewing."

No you can't... ... but I am getting really tired of fixing the effects of it!

DEF wins that battle every time. I gots me a 2012 6.7L that was fed DEF and then driven. Makes a horrible noise when cranking like compression blowing out from under the intake. But, the fuel HPFP appears to be blown apart and seized as fuel is pouring out as fast as it is delivered. To make matters worse we have very low relative compression in 4 cylinders and I am betting the cam gear is not in it's original position. Waiting for an insurance adjuster to appear...

What, Twinkies ain't good for me?

I have shared my experiences with running computers and software for far too long patheirier life expectancies and the troubles I have experienced because of my unwillingness to upgrade. I too share a cautious approach to new software, BUT staying closer to the leading edge has shown me the errors of my ways. When I started running Windows 7 my computing experiences have been nothing but happy and productive with virtually no problems at all. In fact, I now find mt Windows XP machines to be lacking in many ways. At this time I have no compelling desire or need to upgrade to Windows 8. It will only happen with the purchase of new systems. For the moment I am enamoured by my new smart phone and I am rediscovering music...

The brands and the products may survive as they are all good products and are trademarked and worth good money if sold to another company. As part of the bankruptcy you might eventually see many or all of them return.

I was gonna post on this and see who bites the onion. The company was financially doomed to begin with but the union strike pushed them over the edge. Stupid fucks. Now they have NO job. And before anyone jumps on me for that, I took a 7% cut along with all of my coworkers. We weren't happy but we understood the situation. Nobody quit, not immediately anyhow and the place is still in business. Now my taxes are going up in Jan. If you voted Obama, thanks a lot asshole! You got what you deserve you union pricks. I suppose I will be paying for these people too.

Now before this topic goes rampant, what the hell are we talking about here? WHAT new policies and procedures being implemented?
-
I would love to know more details. I have been waiting for the EPA to start looking at all of the tuners and EGR delete products out there. Just because the product comes with a printed statement that "this product is intended for off-road use only" is bullshit in my opinion because we all know that most of these products on in use every day on trucks on the roads.
-
You definitely need a stand to work on these engines. If your company wants to be a truck dealer they have to get the gear to support the product. You probably want to contact the Hot-Line at this point and explain that you are not current equipped with the proper equipment and seek a short block.

My windows 7 machines and XP machines have troubles with the Ford site a few times a week. Been like this for months.

Yeah... for the VCM subscription... which you cant buy any more. If it works at all you will have limited functionality with IDS 75.

Somebody commented that now it's time to move on. That is not so easy as I am sure Jim can attest to. Just because YOUR home is undamaged and YOUR power is restored there are hundreds of thousands of homes severely damaged or completely destroyed, GONE! There are entire communities wiped out. Businesses closed and infrastructure destroyed. Something like this takes a long time to recover from. We see this shit happen on TV all the time but you don't realize the impact until you live through it. The ONLY positive thing that will come from this is the rebuilding will create work for thousands and stimulate the area's economy from labor and materials.
