I will admit that I don't spend much time contemplating the markings on the can or bottle... 4.5% is "usual" beer.... Hi-test can be 6 or 7%.... Occasionally, a good friend and I will make some beer at home (we use a wine filter and carbonate our beer when we bottle it).... we've had a batch or two "accidentally" hit near 15%.... Work... the curse of the drinking class.

Neat tricks for Sick-O's
Jim Warman replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Yes, the 12V connection to the IPR works well... not sure if a guy can "set and forget" but we haven't destroyed one yet. -
Dwayne... I was talking about "our package"... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif A SD V10 is still overkill for most of my circumstance... but at least it's better than being a model boy for wet stacking. My loving bride wants a holiday trailer bigger than some folks apartments.... My SuperCrew can barely do the 20 footer... It's just that every time I read about the SD being a "manly" truck, I think about most of the guys on TDS.... A PSD is a $70K penis enlarger.... One only has to look at the sophomoric posts made by many. I still think that the 6.0 is a good engine.... it's just mis-used by too many owners.

Oldest or Least Used Tool?
Jim Warman replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Wow...old thread resurrected.... I have a nearly full set of Whitworth.... I have tappet wrenches... distributor wrenches.... carburettor adjusting tools out the ying... my venerable point adjusting tool for GM.... a VV carb tool kit.... and my dwell gauge.... and Gawd knows what I'm overlooking. One of these days. you young'uns will be able to look in your "toyboxes" and see semi-useless old junk... an IDS that can't comm with the latest and greatest, maybe.... or a rad hose clamp tool that wont work on something that doesn't have a cooling system.... Whatevcer you do... don't get rid of that old "junk"... I regularly find that old tools can be ressurected for new uses.... -
I've never had a "low urine" warning... If I drink beer (specifically Molsons Canadian), I often get a "high urine" warning..... and the only prescription is more cowbell....

Far be it from me to bust your chops on a warranty story, Dwayne. We're going through the same thing.... Any reference I've made in the past is to get guys to include info that they miss and miss getting paid for. I'm sure that we all know that we need to treat every RO story so that someone that isn't in the loop can know what we checked, what we found and what we did (one of my urchins recently handed in an RO that simply said "removed door panel... fixed lock" He failed to mention the switch bezel he broke.... The customer, however, brought it to our attention). Point to ponder... rather than being combative, it might be time for some mutual assistance.... (teamwork, remember?). Yes, it is going to take time away from more profitable endeavours.... but it will pay off in the long run. Face it.... warranty clerk isn't a job you'd want... You'd probably be banging your head into the corner of a filing cabinet instead of a hood... on purpose, to boot. If your day is anything like mine, you will be both pitied and scorned at the same time (Abraham Lincoln forgot to say "you can't please anybody.... period."). Last year, our old warranty wench went and got pregnant (of all the nerve...). Her replacement got off to a rocky start.... but is doing well. We often collaborate to maximize our warranty claims or to get a tough one through. FWIW, Ford is down to asking for headbolts and gaskets back for some claims.... They seem to be making it hard to get a claim approved.... and, at the same time, making it hard to report a claim accurately.... Now, more than ever, we need to pull together for this kind of stuff.... And our urchins need to get a firm grip on reality.

FWIW.... I just tried again... I still can't access message board. I may go down in history as the first Canadian tech banned from this feature....

oh yes.... he says nine hours... I don't care if that is for one or two (I'm reasonably sure he said two). This boy is nothing less than unique....
-
All I know is that he likes to use the term "roll it in like a donut".... whatever that may mean.... We are just down the road from his dealer.... can we say "repeat repairs" boys and girls?

Well, now that you mention it... I don't think my package is remarkable in size.. but i visited several doctors and even had an ultrasound (what a sweet young thing she was... the rubber gloves kinda killed the mood, though).. and they all agree... I can indeed count to three.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif I will say, though, that the man of today must come to grips with the feminine side.... and I can only add that she better have big boobs... It ain't the size of the equipment that matters... it's the size of the smile on your ladies face that tells the tale.... and I hijacked another thread....

Would that be Rick Impey? I've had the misforune of being in class with him a couple of times. Open your dictionary to "wiener".... look at the picture. FWIW.... For two days now, I haven't been able to access the message board.... I did post my e-mail address a couple of times with what I had hoped were vague references to "something different".... I hope I haven't started down some slippery slope......

tony, I'm beginning to think that I was put on this earth to piss people off /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif Our young senior aircraftsman could chime in here any time.... Truth be known, we all feed on each others problems.... Make a thread saying "this week was good" and we'd all stay away in droves....

I've held off weighing in on this thread because I have some views on leasing that might be considered "demeaning and derogatory".... In Canada, if one were running a proprietorship or limited company, leasing might be attractive from a tax standpoint... but for Joe Average, leasing can be a cash cow for the lessor. For "what should I buy?"... I have blue ovals on my underwear... if I were to actually consider a tatoo, it would be a blue oval on my ass.... (And such a cute ass it is....). I was looking for a SuperCrew... and we got a lease return that I could pass up.... The 4.6 was a bit of a stumble but didn't matter much... until my loving bride talked me into a 20 foot holiday trailer. My 02 loves to be in second gear most of the time when towing.... If the ground is flat, I can keep it in third with OD cancelled. Slight grades take talent... undulating roads... make sure you know where the next gas stop is.... Our local fire chief fell in love with the V10. His work truck and the deputy chiefs truck are both V10s. Empty, they pull the same MPG as a 5.4.... Working, they are winners. Gobs of torque and they abide cool running much better than any diesel ever could. My next truck? F350, SuperCab, shortbox.. with a 6.8. This is going to handle the 49 weeks of short trips, cold starts and urban living much better than a diesel could.... and should give adequate power for the three weeks that I can stretch my legs and enjoy the fruits of my labours.

Two or three weeks ago, we were hovering around -40 ~ -30C... Now we are in the 0C area (32F for the challenged). I had several units with EGT out of range codes... no time for anything more than a code scan and a sensor coherency test.. and come up with nothing amiss. While we have yet to see any serious 6.4 concerns, it is beginning to look like these sensors can't understand northern Alberta winters.

Oh, no... another digression... "back in the day" Ford sold CFL-1s (locally, they were $2.99) as well as FL-1As (back then, $7.95). One was a "consumer" filter built for price... the other was "THE" oil filter. If a warranty repair required that the motor oil be changed, Ford did not pay for it... but for the claim to be paid, the filter installed HAD to be the FL1-A. There are very few things I buy in life using price as a major factor. Not sure if I postedthis link before.

Seeing as SrS Heise is in the armed forces... and if your gov't treats them like our gov't treats our boys and girls... they are likely trying to find funds in the budget to send someone to the drugstore to test the vacuum tubes in their computer.... Uh-oh.... I'll bet that there are many here who wont understand that.... let alone remember tube testers in drugstores...

is a window into other peoples misery. Sometimes I think that it is for this reason only that I still receive tech mail from iATN.Most help requests are from those that refuse to purchase proper test equipment and/or adequate manuals... These are essential tools if he wants to be self employed.A very few are from guys that are stumped the "honest" way....Others are from guys that can't swim but jumped into the deep end, anyway.

Performance Device Evidence
Jim Warman replied to Keith Browning's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
Larry... I hope we're not talking Moss-Magnusson.... This stuff is in an area that is so grey that I don't ever see anything logical coming from it.... What get's lost in the translation is that this act has nothing to do with us serious drinkers.... Moss-Magnusson has no effect on Canada... It's a US only thing.... a Liberal plot to make life harder... It's a politically correct way of saying "we like stupid people". It rates right up there with people that don't expect a cup of coffee to be hot.... people that have to touch the paint right beside the sign that says "wet paint".... (some of these folks are disappointed when they find out that the sign has been there long enough for the wet paint to become paint that "used" to be wet.... If I'm on the wrong track, feel free to call me every name in the book... Disclaimer... I am just fed up with those that cannot think their way through minor problems and my lack of humour is something I apologize profusely for.... -
We seem to have lost a little bit of what we're after..... "wait for it to go"???? Our customers are relying on us to keep them from sitting alongside the road waiting for a tow truck. We can't "wait for it to go".... Our customers want the damned thing fixed... fixed now and fixed right. They want the benefit of a national service part warranty system.. They DON'T want us scratching our heads trying to make heads or tails of someones modifications or variations from the norm. "get a better 1"???? We're a Ford store... we sell Ford parts.. when we open the hood on a customers truck, we like to see familiar things... this makes our jobs easier and should reduce the time spent both diagnosing and repairing. While there are things that we can learn from the aftermarket, the aftermarket desparately needs to realize that one change will, in most cases, beget other changes. And by the time we are done compensating for this, that and the other, the truck more resembles something Frankenstein might create than the truck the owner originally purchased.

4X4 engages, sometimes
Jim Warman replied to dc's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
Sorry, Kieth... I'm still hovering in that limbo where some humor is lost on the old fart... Some days I think the only reason I go to work is because I want to see what happens next.... But I remember an old Scottish saying... "What doesn't kill me can only make me stronger....". -
There used to be a "back door" that a guy from Canada could slip through (Do you guys still have "ask Ernie"?)... There would be a link to the test there... But, I guess they didn't like some @sshole from Canada sneaking in there and looking around... And I haven't been able to find a way in since. I keep hoping I'll find something on PowerStroke Central... FWIW.... we don't get anywhere near the goodies you guys do.... They've changed the Senior and Master achievement "carrots" and I'm unsure of those anymore.... Used to be $1000 and a jacket for Senior.... and $1500 and a Sieko watch for Master... I believe it is close to similar but they've worked diesel certification into the picture somehow. They would also draw from submitted EDSRs and award a few $50 prizes every quarter.... Since they changed the name to GCR, we haven't seen any draws AFAIK. A long time ago, we even had an online product knowledge test - IIRC, the prize there was 50 or a hunn.... also gone...

Pump for hours? All I ever use is a hand pump... Test each knuckle individually, cap off the lines and test those as a sub-assembly... And it only takes a few minutes... -
Larry... keep up the good work.... fight the good fight.... I'll make a fine curmudgeon out of you yet.... Don't forget we are dealing with desk jockeys, paper shufflers and pen pushers.... Common sense does not exist in that world. This Ayem, a distraught SA handed me the phone.... and I spent over a half hour haggling with an ARI fleet consultant.... And tomorrow, the DP will show me my time card......... again /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whattodo.gif

Aaron... we need to at least have the appearance of towing the warrant manual line... But let's say you're doing a QCRC... the part where it says "oil leaks" is an interesting one.... If the car is under warranty.. and I see an oil leak... I can't "sell" the repair.... but I can't NOT mark it down on the QCRC. If there is time, I can "fix" it and later, the SA can show the customer that I marked down it has an oil leak and proceed with blank look #37... At this point, I hope that the customer will take the initiative and ask to have it repaired.... We aren't so far from Edmonton that locals wont go their to save a few bucks (we know "other stuff" ain't supposed to happen , but I'm not into helping anyone commit financial suicide).. and have them fixed at our store rather than their selling dealer... Is our warranty high? Is a pigs ass made of pork? Does a one legged duck swim in a circle? Of course..... But if you make sure you have all of your one legged ducks in a row, you have a chance of coming out of an audit in decent shape... Getting back to 07S57... over on a "consumer" site, they are now starting to blame the new cam sensors for some really off the wall shit.... including individual injector concerns. On edit... I do not make typos... I have fat fingers....

Aaron, at least you are learning a fine, ancient art that most of us have learned or are in the process of learning... and that is shooting ones self in the foot - and never, ever missing. There are those days that, if it weren't for something going wrong, nothing would be happening.... Ask me, I can show you.... Never lose the ability to come up smiling....
