6.7 Powerstoke initial thoughts
Jim Warman replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I'm not really "getting at" anything. The market could change in a heartbeat. But, currently, Ford and Chev are the only suppliers for for full size vans in this class. This is too big a market to ignore... especially when you are tooled up to provide vans in this class. We know that the 6.4 is a physically big motor. The 6.7 is a bit of a wild card - is there stuff thay can unbolt and put somewhere else? The 6.7 gets a bigger rad and a smaller turbo.... The econoline has a longer nose.... I don't know what we will see in the future.... but I don't think it is time to throw a party. -

So... all that remains is for us to find out if these will become a source of reasonably priced aftermarket replacements - or if they will become a source of future concerns. Now... there is most every chance that there wont be any problems from this venture... but, as of this writing, I see a lot of guys jumping on a bus.... and nobody has asked where the fuck the bus is going.... I may be reading too much into it.... but somebody has to. -

Sadly... I would guess that Kieth will be the winner - first come - first served and all that... However, our northern neighbour, PogoPossum would sure like a chance at one o' them new fangled tork nullifiers or whatever..... YooHoo - David!!! Over here!!!!! -
Like Brad says, these things have been around "over there" for a long time... Euro smog laws are quite different from ours so there is a chance that one of the reasons we haven't seen these before may be that their emissions cleanliness may have been "overkill" (caution - there is a wild assumption happening there). Add that, even with the fuel prices being what they are, most of us will continue to display our gluttony by driving more vehicle than we generally need.... yes... I drive to work in a 4WD pick up - on paved roads. My wife goes to the store in a V6 sports car.... And, for most of my scooter driving, a 50cc would likely do OK... Screw it... let's ride!!!!!!

The subject isn't without some study.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice-cream_headache http://www.wikihow.com/Stop-Brain-Freeze http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/8781 Google returned over a million hits in less than a half second... And yes... if you are goofy enough to scarf ice cream in sub zero weather - you WILL pay...

Back in the late 70's, in the small town of Killam, Alberta - there was a small not a drive in - not a road house - not a restaraunt... it was very much "there"... Featured were the "Killam Burger" and the "Four Wheel Drive". I was never brave enough to sample the latter. The Killam Burger, however, hung over the sides of a 9 inch sandwich plate... That covers humoungous burger... which did taste good but not orgasmic. Peters Ice Cream is STILL a landmark in Calgary. It has been far too long but, even back in the 60s, this was the place that could feed you a burger to die for. This would be a burger that would make you stop and think "tail? - meat? - tail? - meat?". Not a large burger... honestly, it's size was quite unremarkable.. However - as far as gut bombs go, this would be a solid 27 on a scale of 1 to 10. Years ago, back when merchants offered good products rather than high profit margins - all of our cows were grain fed... most of our fruits and veggies were grown organically - and the rest of our fruits remained in the closet...

Well.... that was a tad nasty I had simply mentioned that performing a retail head gasket repair on a 6.0 deserved head studs. Another gentleman insisted that I show him where it stated this in the WSM... I distinctly recall quoting a document but, somehow, by the time the pixels had marched out onto the monitor, they had rearranged themselves into something like "you're a wiener". The five words you are not allowed to use on message board are "piss", "shit", "fuck" and "Jim Warman". -
We call this "a little hair of the dog that bit you"...

Larry, this is one of the few holidays our countries truly seem to share... May yours be happy and safe... and relatively free from self induced pain. Breakfast recipe.... take 4 Tylenol and carefully place them between two piece of buttered toast. If you are "health conscious" you can substitute canola spread for the butter and use whole grain bread rather than enriched white. If all else fails, I have had very good luck with a little "hair of the dog"....

We went through this recently on a 6.4.... we're at about 1900 feet and everyone thought my numbers were way low... even after comparing to a brand new truck. I have, for a long time, used compression testing as a relative measure rather than an absolute measure. I am still a great big fan of the cylinder leakage test. -

Brad... once you experience ANY truck with a V-Mac, you will begin to wish you could have held on to that fire truck a wee bit better... These have been very popular in the past... Whoops, I guess we should explain what they are.... They are an engine mounted scroll type air compressor. Modifications are required to the fan shroud, extra bracketry and an extra belt. A couple of oil lines and a fairly large diameter air line... Life doesn't get much better than this. -

At least you didn't call anyone a wiener... I had almost considered encouraging a group effort at mentioning DTS - in light of the reception your post got, I am rethinking that. How about one or two brave souls adding sig lines that include only their DTS member number and a cryptic DTS - for me that would be #66DTS... Yes, it could be viewed as inciteful but Ford sure as shit isn't running message board in any way that could be misconstrued as meaningful. The whole world is trying desparately to be politically correct... PC doesn't bring change... PC doesn't improve the status quo.... All PC will ever do is maintain those things that are wrong and cover up those things we need to see. Look at it this way... you have every right to call me a pompous asshole... and I have every right to prove you right or wrong... "Back in the day" we used to call it "put up or shut up". I'm having fun with this.... f@ck, but ain't I wierd? -

To me, the relative compression test can be a scarey test... If you have an identifiable miss, it *may* direct you to a cylinder if needed (say if MP_Learn is toggled at <NO>) or it can help eliminate an injector as a cause of misfire... As a "real" diagnostic tool, I don't think it holds a lot of value. -
Sadly they are porcelain.... the only precious metals in my house seem to adorn my loving brides appendages - she is a typical Canadian - she spends 10% more than I earn. At least I no longer look like I belong in the front row at a Willie Nelson concert.

So... Wednesday, my loving bride and I made another trek to Edmonton.... this old guy has been in need of some significant dental work and that day was the culmination of nearly two years of Mongolian clusterfuck (for the unfamiliar, this is much worse than a Chinese fire drill, but still better than a Liberal appointed Senate - but not much). They gave me a general anesthetic - it was a about 10AM and they had me count backwards like on TV... The last number I remember was 77. At a little before 11AM, I was trying to sit up on a gurney in the recovery area. For the privilege of having a less than one hour nap in a strange place, we didn't get enough change back out of $2700 to buy lunch (presupposing I could actually chew anything, anyway). And folks think OUR door rate is high!!!!!! At least my med plan will cover most of the expense...... I hope.

I think a lot of your questions and thoughts may be addressed if you read the dieselpowermag article. This motor is chock full of the latest technology and may not appear as something we are used to seeing. Change is nothing if not inevitable... -
I can see the monkeyhouse now.... there was the 10K mod.... then the zoodad mod..... What next - "the all new JATO mod for the 6.7 DEF tank". That wiener on youtube should have a field day with this stuff...

I can't see retrofit kits since emissions levels can't really be enacted retroactively... If you have a car built in 1973, "they" can't legally make you meet anything 'better' than 1973 emissions levels.... currently, enacting any laws that state different would amount to political suicide. When we consider the "evolution of the cigarette and the smoker" - it may only be a matter of time (yes... I've been puffless for well over a year - and I would KILL for a for a smoke right now...). I haven't yet seen the DEF tank capacity written anywhere - nor the expected DEF consumption rating.
