ONE HELLUVA 6.4 PROBLEM??
Jim Warman replied to kridd12's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Somewhere along the line, I pissed somebody off bad enough to be handed the keys to this truck.... It will, at it's own discretion, either run like an absolute bag of shit (5 noncontributing cylinders at one point) - run like a top... or decide on some middle ground. You can take a motor that misses like a bastuhd and make it run smooth simply by turning the key off and restarting the motor. This motor can have a steady "TAP" at idle.... when this happens, it is beginning to emerge that the fuel trim for #2 MIGHT be adding - the concern is that transitory. It might "TAP" when it misses.... but then, it might NOT. The last time I ran the motor warm, there was a VERY intermittent miss on #2 in enhanced mode.... SFTs were fairly tight to zero except for #2 at between 15 and 18 plus. So... the big question is..... when I submit my application as a burger flipper at MickeyDs, can I use you guys as references? -
I would check with an outfit called BTS (others probably offer the same service - but it is one setup I have seen). The heads can be sent out and machined for "fire rings". We did one in our shop several years ago... spendy.... why... all the good questions. But, if your customer has deep pockets and you have the patience - why not? FWIW... in the different streaks for different freaks department... We have about $17K CAD invested in a 500 inch RB Dodge

Are you joking me? You guys gotta see this...

They allow all of these people to vote.... "If we get's a deevorce, does that mean ya wonts be mah sister any more???" In this world, there are two kinds of people.... those that can use tools - and those that shouldn't own them. -
Well, some of the launch was smooth.... kinda... But deja vu has set in hard.... injectors - over full crankcases.... ermmmm, problems with reflashes..... What next? The end of multistrike (pilot) injections? Phuque..... are we going to see a small population of trucks get a EBP delete? At least they don't have an ICPEFGHIJKLMNOpeeee sensor....

Mikey is a wiener... Mikey is a wiener.... -
With the labour allowance that Ford is offering, even in todays depressed market, I can't say that this could be described as "good". What has me concerned is that they seem to know, BEYOND THE SHADOW OF A DOUBT where the "bad" injectors live.... yet TSBs continue to narrow those things we can do - to the point where the conditions we find aren't "allowed" to happen...

Ummmm... I think I "back-slid".... Having feet made of clay is such a burden to bear.... -
Someone is explaining his lighting concern.... "The rear emercengy flashers work on the front and not the rear." OK... now we have a firm grasp on the concern.....

After the night of the sharp tongues, I pretty much forgot about this pox on humanity..... until some unwitting person happened to ask "Are you guys still screwing with this guy?". I went back to his place just to refresh my menory and, instead of toying with him, I flat out chastised him....This man is one of the many things that is wrong with the world today. -
What I had really tried to emphasize with Dwayne (I am still "personna non gratta" on the message board) were two points... The first being step (IIRC) 9 in the TSB. We are given three condition "scenarios"... None of which is the one we usually see... L_PWR and V_PWR are at B+ and M_PWR is in the toilet... and the pencil pushers appear to deny that this condition can exist and we are to follow the TSB anyway. Second... we are instructed to cozy up to the PCM and say "Let's pretend the oil is cold.... so - can you please pretend that the spools in the injectors are harder to move? And that cranking RPM is going to be down a bit...." What kind of engineer came up with that train of misunderstanding? Sidebar rant.... I have no doubts that each and every manufacturer converts their "warranty fund bank" into operating capital before they should. I can't speak for them... but, in Fords case, doesn't anyone else get the feeling that Ford views us as idiots? We need a TSB (read that as guided diagnostic process) for everything we touch? Only, if we make it to the end of the TSB without a resolution to the concern, we are to use the manuals for "normal" diagnosis. Except that the warranty nazis will tell us that the TSB "should" have fixed the concern? We are at that point in time, regarding the complexity of these systems, where this trade needs to do some serious head shaking on technician competency and abilities... and the manufcturers need to spearhead this if tey and their dealer networks are to survive. From what I can see... more of Fords resources are geared towards penalizing US for our shortcomings than are dedicated to fixing our shortcomings....

Worked OK for me Steve.... stupid, but it worked OK for me... On an interesting side note.... "back in the day", we never saw some of the block deck/cylinder head concerns we see now. I seriously wonder what these things look like at the time of assembly. Quality control sometimes appears as some etherial concept.. But I come from an era that espoused "zero defects".

I been doing some "profiling"... my GOD - that is a sexy word.... and it is beginning to look like almost everyone on this website is rex... and I am beginning to wonder about stoma (some of you might want to google that word) as he is beginning to look like his name suggests, an "artificial asshole". And who the hell is this STI guy and how does HE get in without a public profile? -

Look in the fuel pump thread real quick... I think I'm about to get banned... -
Or going "there" very shortly I still get the odd phone call - " I changed my fuel filters and now it wont start...".

It appears that WE will account for a sudden surge in hits on this website.. this might get that wiener all excited... -
Then I must be "fluffy" rather than "fat".... Am I too old to be "phat"?
-
The word "always" gives me the willies.... I've replaced a hand full of fuel pump relays (read that as CJB) for this concern. Yes, the "usual" concern is the pump, but without doing at least a modicum of testing there remains the distinct possibility that we will look like we use a shotgun to replace parts. YMMV
