  1. I was on my way home from work. I was sitting at a stop sign, waiting to make a left turn when suddenly the radio station I was listening to went dead. I continued to drive, all the lights were out. The power was out at home. Cell phone didn't work. I went home, waited it out for a while and decided to head up to the then girlfriend's (now wife's) house. It was a fantastic drive up hwy 404, as there were very few cars on the road, and all the police were attending to intersections and such... The then girlfriend (now wife) lived about 30 mintues north of Toronto. I got there in just under 4 minutes (with the lack of police presence on the highways). Our original plan was to go to the cottage, which is just outside of Parry Sound, Ontario... about 3 and a half hours north of Toronto. When we finally figured out the severity of the power outage, we decided to stick with our plan of heading up north. I got up early on Friday morning, with the intention of finding a gas station that was operational. It took me about an hour to find one. Filled up, headed back to the then girlfriend's (now wife's) house, packed up the car and left town with the girlfriend (now wife) and her cousin and her cousin's boyfriend that were visiting from England. Driving north again was great, as there was still minimal traffic and no cops on the road. We pulled in to Parry Sound (just for the hell of it), and to our surprise, the lights were on! We hit the grocery store, where the talk was that the town was going to shut down power to help conserve for the hospital and any possible emergencies. We booked it out of the grocery store, and hit the beer store in dramatic fashion... Loaded up on as much beer as the car would hold (under feet and on laps), and set off for the rest of our journey north. We got to the cottage in Pointe au Baril, Ontario... And, to our next surprise, the power was also on... The power stayed on all weekend... We had cold beer, clean water, warm showers and a fantastic time with very minimal power disruptions. I had a nice comfortable weekend at the cottage-where I chose to head because we can survive quite well up there without electricity... and even better with it! What did you do?
  2. I just replaced an injector with a leaking jam nut yesterday. I was told nothing by the parts department or prior approval about a "stop sale"... I guess I'll keep my eyes open for it to come back!
  3. I think we have that issue with 4.5s because of the different oil manifold causing some sort of pulsation. If you recall, 4.5s were way harder on port-plug D rings than 6.0s (if you don't find that too hard to believe)... I'm sure there is a relation.
  4. I do that too... But I'll never instruct somebody to do it on the road. Although, I've never seen a DPF go over temperature-only failed/inaccurate temperature sensors, there is still a very, very, very slight possiblity the exhaust system is too hot.
  5. If I leave a container with the seal broken in my trunk, it will stink my car up for days! I "buy" the 946ml bottles and leave them in my garage. One of those containers lasts me a month and a half. We don't keep the gallon jugs at the dealership. Not enough ROI for my parts department. They'd rather sell the single shots at more $$$$ than the litre!
  6. I use PM-22 and PM-23 in my car. It's both effective and cost-effective (I get it free). I notice nearly 100 km per tank mileage improvement with the 22.
  7. Most likely cylinder wall cavitation errosion.
  8. Well... Now I've heard it all.. We are shutting down early today because some of the light duty techs are complaining about the heat. The "Pussification" of the world is in full effect!
  9. I've never attempted it, but isn't there something in programmable parameters or service functions to do that? I swear I've seen it somewhere...
  10. I wouldn't. That pump is not designed to have anything other than diesel fuel go through it. It's not a matter of if the pump will fail, it's a matter of when... If that pump seizes, it will wipe out the whole geartrain... Replacing the fuel system now is cheaper than replacing the engine down the road.
  11. I love their tools. I'd replace every single tool I have with them if my Matco dealer would show up more than once a year!
  12. Works like a charm. I started doing that about 3 coolers ago. I also leave the upper in place, but remove the PCM for access. Takes longer to drain the cooling systems that it does to remove the cooler now.
  13. With the difference it head/cup design between the 2 engines, they won't have the same issues with cracked cups... Check this thread http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/index.php/topic/1307-fuel-in-coolant-revisited/?hl=sleeve&do=findComment&comment=10127
  14. I use a bottoming tap too. When the sensors break, I remove the whole unit from the truck and fix it on the bench. For the 20 minutes it takes to get it out, I find it well worth it for the extra access. I usually drill them out to 3/8", then use a Dremel to clean out the rest of the fitting before running the tap. I've been charging 3-4 hours to replace sensors when they break, and people are more than happy to pay for that than a new DPF.
  15. Ahhh. Crap! Look at my avatar!
  16. Sorry... I should have added "when the bolts come out".
  17. Me too... I've got them down to under an hour and a half.
