  1. Just about everything that we see with flood damage gets written off by insurance companies. I remember after the Toronto flood in 2005, some fleets decided to dry out and get their stuff on the road without contacting insurance... Lots of electrical gremlins came out of that one!
  2. I'm sure I'm one of the few... But I find absolutely no appeal in old cars. In fact, I think I'm the only mechanic I've ever met that has that feeling. Not that my saying that is of any importance what so ever, but I just felt the need to put that out there!
  3. My parts department keeps some "off-shore" fluids for "non-warranty" repairs. I refuse to use them.
  4. Big time difference. Early on in the 6.7 days, I chased my tail on a few chassis cabs thinking they were lagging... But quickly found out it's normal when compared to other chassis cabs.
  5. I've changed a few EGR valves for this problem (dating back to the release of the 6.7) with success.
  6. Thanks for disturbing this old thread. That was the way my OLD dealer did it. The dealership I'm at now has 2 transmission techs, and they go strong week in, week out.
  7. That's what I do to listen for HP oil leaks. The part that threw me off was the zero boost thing. It won't happen again.
  8. What does the secondary filter housing look like? I've had a few 6.4s in the past that have had water in fuel issues followed by a no-start. They all made sufficient FRP to start, but turned out to need fuel injectors.
  9. I didn't even get an air rushing sound. Nothing to indicate that there was a leak.
  10. It's kind of my own fault for seeing a "short-cut" and running with it. This truck has been around the block a few times to a few unworthy hands... As it turns out, somebody at some time in the past did not install the bracket that holds the air duct to the FICM, so I removed the duct without removing the air filter. If I hadn't done that, I would have seen it. I'll get over it.
  11. Okay. Lesson learned. As it turns out, the plastic cold side air duct had a hole blown in it right under the air filter mount. The hole was so big that it didn't make the hissing sound I'm used to, and it was on top of the tube, so it didn't leak oil. I don't feel bad for replacing the turbo, as it did have an overboost code in it, and the ring would not move at all... So I'm sure the stuck turbo was the cause of the tube blow out.
  12. New sensor... Same results. And no tube restriction.
  13. Help! I've got a 2006 F-550 making only 1 psi of boost and I can't figure it out... What am I missing? Yesterday, I ran the IDS boost test and VVT test... I got about 0.6 psi of boost, and the VVT test failed miserably. I removed the turbo to inspect it, and the unison ring was jammed solid. Today, I installed a new turbo, but it still makes no boost... Even less than yesterday (0.4 psi). I installed a good VGT solenoid, map and hose, maf, egr valve (all from a parts truck we have) and inspected and cleaned the MGP port. I've also removed the downpipe from the turbo... The EBP responds in a way that the tube doesn't appear to be blocked, but I haven't changed that... yet. The only thing that I can note is the fact the EGR test fails the first test (after the response test) due to high MAF. It's too hot right now for me to run another VVT test, but I thought I'd ask the brilliant minds here for an opinion, before I pull out whatever is left of my hair. Cheers!
  14. I'd certainly be checking for a fuel pump inlet restriction before going any further. Do you get a "fuel knock" before it stalls out?
  15. From time to time, I still get the odd "rockstar" assessor send back 6.4 radiator claims because I should not have needed 3 gallons of coolant to top off the system after the leak was repaired. I just tell them to read their own bulletins and get back to me.
  16. THAT is EXACTLY what concerns me. I was just re-reading the section of the ESA that covers this topic... I'm positive you have nothing to worry about... But on a sidenote, I also read that if your employer is deducting things like social club, uniforms and such, and you didn't AUTHORIZE IT IN WRITING, you can claim to get it all refunded! On ANOTHER side note... I recall once going out of my way trying to get a 6.4 claim denied due to abuse (performance mods, DPF removed, bald tires, yada, yada, yada) and (allegedly) fabricated maintenance records (all hand written with no no dates on some or mileage missing)... Nothing I did would get FOMOCO to deny the claim. They paid it with no questions asked or assessor delays... But, I am currently fighting them to pay for a sealed beam on an F-650 that had rotted terminals due to corrosion...
  17. I've replaced a few plugs. It's very important to heat the plug. I've seen quite a few people take the treads out without heat.
  18. Now, now... E-Series gas engines are a breeze to remove. I think the new V-8s and V-10s are junk. We have a few 5.4 Econolines running around that have had multiple engine replacements. No V-10s, mind you, but there are enough similarities. How many oil changes has it had in the last 24K?
  19. Not true. With the lack of available talent in our area of expertise, wages in the GTA are really going up!
  20. I've never done a 6.4 long block... Only complete drop ins or ESBs... What does the long block come with?
  21. Really? I thought it was just a code between dealers. I didn't think it was actually a rule. Most calls I get from other dealerships will be from a random tech... "Hi, my name is Blah from Blahblah Ford. My manager Blahblahblah would like you to call him"... That way, the manager didn't "initiate" the contact. At least that's how I thought it works. As far as recruiters are concerned, I've been contacted several times in the past 3 or 4 months by recruiters.
  22. She is a recruiter. She contacted me through LINKEDIN. She says the cost of living in Penticton is lower than Toronto... I don't really care. How can she get in trouble? She works for a recruiting firm.
  23. Kathleen Kischer for a dealer in Penticton for $28 per hour? If so, yes. I told her no thanks. I'm not moving across the country for a pay-cut!
