  1. And the purpose of continuing to crank the engine AFTER it started on fire was?
  2. Awesome! He'll give "powerstrokehelp.com" a run for their money!
  3. A very good friend of mine is a BG trainer. He said they've paid out on lots of transmission repairs. Not much else.
  4. Keith, I don't know if the starter is energizing when it won't start, and right now, the concern is no longer present. I am getting my info from the tech working on it. I just can't see what else can have any relation to the engine turning. You can easily get to the crank pulley without touching anything at all, so I imagine nothing else has been disturbed. I have QSOL access, and from what I can determine, the flywheel belongs to Cummins.
  5. I was sort of wondering if something with the ring gear causing an issue, but it really doesn't feel like the starter is doing anything (with my hand on the starter) at all when then no-crank issue is present. ISB engines DO have a recall on the flywheel. We may have to look in to that.
  6. Here's the deal... We have a customer with a 2011 F-650 with an ISB Cummins. Every few months, he will tow it in as a no-crank. The starter does not engage. All you hear is the relay clicking. If you bar the engine over a c*nt-hair, then it will work perfectly fine, and continue to work perfectly fine for months. We have verified the starter drive is not engaged to the flywheel. Does anybody have guess as to what might be happening to cause this, and what turning the crank pulley does to make it crank again?
  7. How often or how many of you guys do this repair? We will NOT do it. If a lifter wipes out the cam, the minimum we will do is replace the short-block.
  8. As many may know, I'm a huge fan of diesel powered passenger cars. Mazda and General Murders are both introducing diesel powered cars this year. I wonder if we will follow suit?
  9. Stupid question, I'm sure... But have you verified the fuel quality?
  10. I've never heard that, but I have been told to run a refill activation, followed by a few dosing measurement tests (without removing the injector) to prime the system after working on it. The refill activation does a 3 minute power down.
  11. And, I still can't believe how well these things run on gasoline!
  12. Just recently, I had an issue with a truck that had been "rewired" to match a miswired wood chipper(7 way, flat)... The stupid thing is the fact that the trailer shop rewired his truck to fit his new wood chipper-but, for some reason, he was having issues with his other trailers afterwards... I suggested to the customer that there was a pin out of place in the trailer plug, and he asked if I would rewire the truck to where it should be, and rewire the trailer plug... You'd be surprised at how well that worked!
  13. It does. Unless the truck has been rewired to match a miswired trailer... It's the chicken vs. the egg all over again.
  14. I have seen adaptors that have a switch that will change the center pin function.
  15. I agree there should be a standard, but I have seen varitions between trailer builders. I normally ask to have a trailer brought with the truck if I have any doubts about the trailer being the issue, or if the customer continues to have issues. This is where I get my wiring info... http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx
  16. We've been doing lots of L.P. fuel pumps in the past 5 or 6 months for various reasons. Mind you, I've never seen that DTC.
  17. I certainly hope it isn't running a 17 year old calibration! If that TSB doesn't address the issue, I'd maybe, possibly, poentially consider having a poke around the IAC.
  18. Bummer that you can't somehow swing both. We used to have a really, really great commercial truck salesman. Every spring, he would host a "Commercial Truck Event" at our dealership. He had reps from Blue Diamond, Cummins, Ford Credit and just about every body builder that we use on hand. It was a catered event that went on for 2 days. We sold a good percentage of the our yearly trucks during that event. Unfortunately, he ended up leaving us due to a difference of opinion with some of the upper brass regarding his "you gotta spend money to make money" attitude... So, we don't do it anymore, and our truck sales are at an all time low. Coincidence? I think not.
  19. I did it back in January. I don't recall it being that big of a "cock knocker".
  20. I just got a turbo sent back by WPEC. The compressor wheel was damaged, not the turbine wheel as stated in the FSA. Prior to replacing the turbo, I contacted hotline, told them the the details of the failure, and that I was unsure if any foreign matter had passed through the turbo. Hotline said compressor wheels can also fail, and to continue with replacing the turbo under the FSA, providing the the air intake was properly assembled and the air filter and such were intact, as they were. WPEC did not agree, and sent it back, denying the claim.
