  1. Ford used to say to use 15W40 when temps are above 90 and/or you tow alot and use 10W30 for below 90 degrees and light duty use. This was before they offered the synthetic diesel oil so it might not apply to them.I've ran 5w40 in my 6.0 Excursion for the last two years and it makes a big difference on cold start up and it helps fuel economy. On the next oil change I'm using 0W30 and see what happens.I run 15w40 in my 7.3 crew cab dually all year round but I don't drive it in the winter months, I only tow with it. Sorry... I meant why switch back and forth between conventional and synthetic oil...
  2. I run 5W40 in the spring, summer and fall months, and 0W30 in the winter months-I park at a carpool lot every other week which is in a wide open space with no protection from the wind, and have no plug in option. I don't switch between conventional and synthetic. Why do you want to switch back and forth? Is it to save a few bucks?
  3. As if we/they don't know about the inherent issues with cylinder 2 and 8 bore and piston failures in 6.4s... How was Ford made aware of the fact the injector was replaced prior to the truck landing in your bay? Sometimes offering up too much info to the folks at the Mothership isn't the best idea. But, that aside, everytime I've had a burnt up piston, I've always replaced the injectors along with the short block-at the advice of hotline. Perhaps it's just one of our "Rock-Star Assesors" trying to make a good impression? Perhaps the customer is somewhat at fault for not reading his owners manual, therefore not knowing about the warranty coverage? Good luck!
  4. Never. It must be because I live under a rock in the bush.
  5. Somebody posted this on INFORD... I think I've got to get me one of these! www.theinductor.com/index.php
  6. EVERY venting issue I have ever had on a 6.4 turned out to be headgaskets.
  7. I said no such thing. I said they suck total ass!

WTF? Is this INFORD? What's with the censorbot? That was supposed to read "Great Gimli Aardvark s.e.m.e.n."

One might think so, but ever since the population of the Great Gimli Aardvark went into decilne, the Manitoba government has outlawed the use of Great Gimli Aardvark !?@#%! as a famulating agent-therfore the ambulite can no longer be prefamulated. I don't know where you get your information!
  10. I don't know... The E-Box is dated, old technology, especially with competition from all the imports entering the commercial van market. One of the fleets we service has some Sprinters, I have driven several of them-although the early ones suck total ass, I was able to drive a 2012 Benz Sprinter last week, and it was quite a treat. If our new van drives anywhere near as nice as it did, it'll be a good thing.
  11. You can be preventative, and replace the HPFP now, or wait until it blows up and replace the whole fuel system.

The Filbert Flange is a little more hyperactive on the 263.
  13. Ha! My phone's autocorrect turns the word "yay" into "gay"!
  14. I was just down in parts pricing out an EGR valve, only to find that they are changing out to a remanufactured part number. I wonder where the remanufacturer is getting the valves from? We (obviously) haven't been returning cores... as of yet....
  15. I've seen P1000 with CLR_DST in excess of 30,000 km.
  16. Who are these DOME people of which you you speak? I was quite tempted, but I fought that temptation for the greater good.
  17. www.azdtec.com is still running. You can eff around there and learn some stuff about the system.
  18. I had lots of fun with that scenario. "My mechanic says there's something broken in my transmission", I'd say, "He didn't put that back in? Does your transmission still shift okay?"... Shit like that. Good times. A previous dealership I worked at, had one of those "wallet flush" transmission service machines. I hated using that machine. I prefer to do a drop the pan, change the filter and fluid type of service. You'd be amazed at how many pans I had removed with 200K + on the odometer, that have had several "transmission flushes", but never had the pan removed once, and running on the original filter.
  19. I know a former Azure Dynamics field service manager. I've sent him an e-mail to see if he has any sources, or is willing to offer up some assistance. Check your inbox.
  20. I find different insurance companies seem to have different policies. When I think of all the gasoline in diesel repairs we've done on 6.4s, some insuarance companies authorized it, and some didn't.
  21. The left battery has a black, fabric strap holding the battery down. The right side just uses the wedge with a bolt. I would suspect it is because the right side battery tray is the same with gas or diesel engines, and has been the same since the 7.3 days. The left battery tray was redesigned from the 7.3 to the 6.0, hence the strap. Just guessing.
  22. I always check the wiring behind the grille on early LCFs with ANY weird electrical problem.
