  1. Damn... I guess I have to drop the price of the FICMs I have on Kijiji.
  2. I've done 2... One worked, one still ended up getting a pump.
  3. When I am diagnosing an ABS "misfire", I let go of the steering wheel during the event, and watch the way it moves. If the wheel turns, the front wheel on the side opposite of the direction the wheel turned is the culprit. If the wheel doesn't move, chances are it's the rear
  4. I still think it's funny.
  5. I have tried that, but it's too tight of a squeeze for me to be comfortable with.
  6. Those dowels can hold the turbo so tight to the pedestal that you can lift the front wheels off the ground if you try hard enough. I lift up with the engine hoist just enough to start to pick up the suspension, and give it a pry and the pop off. Be careful of the plastic coolant tube running along the passenger side. If you hear it crack, replace it. FWIW, all I do is remove the turbo, fan stator and power-steering pump, unbolt the intake so I can lift it about half an inch and the oil cooler will pass without having to completely remove the intake or wiring harnesses, fuel lines and such.
  7. Hey, Chan... Did they clear house at your store? From T.A.D.A.... Are you currently working in the Service Department of automotive dealership and want a change? Yes, we are growing and are accepting applications for all positions that are within an Automotive Dealership Service Department. Everyone from Lot Personal to Support Staff to Advisors to Technician to Management are encouraged to apply. We are a very busy, fast pasted, professional and enjoyable dealership to work for and offer excellent remission
  8. I am so happy that I don't work on light duty. I'd be out the door faster than our parts staff on Friday night if I ever had to do that recall for 4 hours!
  9. P2614 (and P2617) are typically an effect of a stall or a no-start, not a cause. Have you ruled out high pressure oil leaks as the problem? Especially seeing that "the driver called, it wouldn't start... you drove out there and it started"... Perhaps that was enough time for the engine too cool enough to start. I have seen on dozens of occasions that high pressure oil leaks don't set a P2291 code, even with the concern present. I somewhat suspect there is an issue with some calibrations that cause that code not to set... FICM harness issues are also pretty common, and (I find) 9 times out of 10 I can't see anything visibly wrong with them.
  10. I'm pretty sure only the C7 and C9 were HEUI engines.
  11. Got a bit more info on this one today, which makes it even better... We got the head off on the bank in question... The failed cylinders piston sits about 3/8" lower than the other 3 pistons when at TDC. As it turns out, the engine was hydraulically locked from the leaking fuel injector, so they put a HUGE bar on the crank pulley to see if they could get it to turn-thus shortening the rod just a bit. We told them they needed a long block prior to pulling the head off, and removing the head would just add money to the total bill, but they wanted to know exactly what happened to the engine.
  12. Hey, Chan... Does it really have only 389K? Those odometers count up like this... 399997, 399998, 399999, 300000. They never hit 400k.
  13. I find this happens everytime I get a somewhat attractive offer. It's like everybody (somehow) knows, and they tread on egg-shells until it's too late for me to accept an offer... then the fit hits the shan! Opportunity does not knock too often in our lives, and it's up to us to detemine if it's opportunity knocking, or a vacuum cleaner salesman at the door!
  14. Just finished diagnosing a rough running and smoking 5.4 3V that a local company had decided to diagnose and repair on their own... So, they decided it needed a set of plugs... They tried to change the plugs and broke off all 8. On the advice of a "mechanic friend", they removed the cylinder heads to remove the broken spark plugs. They reinstalled the heads and it wouldn't start. On the advice of the "mechanic friend", they rechecked the cam timing. It still wouldn't start. They finally gave up and had it towed in. Turns out the problem was a leaking down fuel injector. We replaced the leaking injector, and the engine now starts, but makes some awful noises. Turns out there was a bit of a collision between the pistons and the valves. So, trying to avoid paying a $100 diagnostic fee, they're now into a long-block. When will people learn?
  15. I've been seriously considering taking a job at a local fleet. I have an offer on the table that expires at the end of August... I just need to figure out if shift work, onion dues, on call weeks and 40 hour pays are worth it considering it will include very good benefits, a pension and less of a drive... I'm waiting for somebody at work (or Ford) to piss me off to help me make a decision, but right now everything is quite peachy.
  16. Great course. Lots to learn... If you can stay awake during BETT.
  17. My wife is hard-core in to Olympic Gymnastics... Stays up til all hours of the night watching the days replays. I like beach volleyball... especially woman's. I'm trying to convince my wife it's about the game, and not the little bikini bottoms, but I don't think she's falling for it. Aquatic events are cool too.
  18. I was talking to somebody "in the know" yesterday... He was suggesting that upper management at Ford (at least in Canada) is aware of the issues being caused by weak warranty times and how they are runing dealer-tech-Ford relationships and that something might finally be done about it... I sure hope that our voices might be heard one day.
  19. I'm 6'2" and 220... I have an XL. I'll measure it when I get home.
  20. TSB is out today. 0.5 for automatic, and 0.4 for manual trans... Reprogram and release.
  21. No shit! I just did a retail pump last week for a P0088.
