  1. I really hated doing those courses... Probably because I did them at home before going to bed, and was falling asleep while doing them... There is good info, that's for sure!
  2. I wouldn't even attempt it. 1996 also has a cam driven fuel pump mounted in the valley under the turbo...
  3. I worked at a Roush dealership a number of years ago. I don't miss them one bit.
  4. FWIW, the one I did also had a waste-gate related DTC. P1248 I think. I'd look it up to double check, but I can't access service publications on my home computer (from what I understand, I'm not the only one running Windows 7 and IE 9 having this problem (hint!)).
  5. I've had it once. Replacing the waste-gate control actuator fixed it.
  6. In my experience, 8 times out of 10, I find it's a sending unit (I'm sure I've replaced way more left senders than right)... Once out of 10 it's an alternator, and once out of 10, it's a transfer pump... )When they're working right, I find the levels are very close to one another. I have seen people that fill only the left tank, and wonder why it doesn't transfer to the right tank... I once filled a right side tank full, while the left tank was nearly empty, and it did transfer.
  7. My all time favorite line to hear from a customer that brings their car/truck to my dealership... "Well, my mechanic says it's this...". So, if your mechanic is so fucking good, why is it here?
  8. Aren't we all able to remove a turbo in well under half an hour by now?
  9. We work on all makes and models of trucks (with some exception) and trailers too. We are a medium duty truck shop that can do Ford Warranty, basically. As much as I used to hate the QC-550, although I have no shortage of work, I'm finding it to be a very useful tool to make even more money... both retail and warranty. As much as they like to say you can't upsell warranty, marking something as RED on an inspection sheet (that is created and endorsed by Ford) almost guarantees you getting work off of it. I can't even count how many belt tensioners, oil leaks, rads and hoses I've been doing because of this form.
  10. I don't know. I'm patiently waiting for it to have an issue.
  11. I know a guy that used it in a 7.3. It recitified the issue for a few days, but then he ended up replacing his injectors afterall.
  12. Luckily, I ran into a failed belt due to improper routing prior to every having to remove one, or I'm sure I would have done the same thing. On a side note, last week I saw my first 6.7 with a FEAD driven PTO (lucky it's taken so long, I suppose)... Either way, the belt was only ribbed on one side and some of the idler pulleys were replaced with smooth pulleys. I wonder if that's going to have any effect on the system?
  13. If it's under warranty, all I can say is, "9.4 hour coolant flush, baby!"
  14. Very sad day indeed. I think it's a good time to blast Paul Revere and piss off the neighbors!
  15. That is an understatement! I learned OHMs law in grade 9... or maybe even before that, having to do that all over again is ass. The first in class I did for Cummins was INSITE and BETT... 2.5 days of learning INSITE and 2.5 days of Basic Electrical Theory and Troubleshooting...
  16. We have a giant binder of CDs that I had to complete prior to getting sent to school for the first time. I'll get a picture of it when I'm at work tomorrow. Mind you, this was about 5 or 6 years ago, so I'm not sure if that's still the case. I do still get update courses on CD.
  17. Yup. Which is a good thing, because if you think Ford warranty times are bad, you should see the Cummins times! We basically do only light repairs here, engine failures and such get sent to Cummins.
  18. First you need to get the "Cummins Virtual College"... a bunch of CDs that you do on your home computer to get prerequisites for school... Then the dreaded "BETT (Basic Electrical Theory and Troubleshooting)"... a snoozer course of everything we learned in high-school... then you get to go on and learn some really cool chit!
  19. I use a forklift to pull 7.3 Engines from Econolines. Slip the forks under the exhaust manifolds as far as they will go in, then attach a chain from the forklift to the rear of the engine to balance it. Works great.
  20. How about Cummins training? Have you looked in to that yet?
  21. Prior to having INSITE, I used to read Cummins DTCs with MD truck and an IC-4 cable. If you get INSITE, you have to get the full subscription if you want to do anything. If you only get basic, you can't change parameters, reprogram or even clear DTCs. We still use the INLINE-5 interface... I don't even know if there is anything newer out there.
