  1. I've done them with the turbo off/cab on. I have to do a pump on a 2009 F-450 with a front wheel drive bus set up. I'm going to try to do it by only removing the transmission and inlet pipes. I have replaced fuel line gaskets like that before, and didn't find it too difficult. Check out this $hit...
  2. It's gone about around 10-12 cents per litre in my neck of the woods.
  3. Diesel diagnosis should start at 2 hours. All the labor guides I've ever seen have it at that time. I charge an additional 2 hours for air testing plus any necessary access (valve covers, etc) in case I can't come to a conclusion without tearing in to it.
  4. Yup. I just charge a few extra hours MT. Never had an issue getting it paid.
  5. I haven't read the bulletin, but isn't the switch just an on/off switch? I don't recall being able to read the fuel pressure as a PID on LCFs that came with it from the factory...
  6. So, I've finally made it through my first tank of fuel. 1161.3 km. I filled up today at 119.9/L for a measly $50. Can somebody explain to me why Ford doesn't have a diesel powered passenger car in North America?
  7. Karma kicked my ass yesterday! I'm not going to elaborate, but it got kicked good!
  8. I've had the exact scenario a few times. Personally, at this point I stop wasting the customer's money on diagnosis and call an FQR.
  9. I've had some success in the past with periodically removing the fuel filter cap to let the air out. I've also had to try the shop air in the filler neck trick. It doesn't happen too often, but when it does it can be a pig.
  10. My outlaws are heading to Myrtle Beach this morning with intentions of arriving around noon tomorrow. Hopefully Irene doesn't decide to make a slight left!
  11. Okay. I found somebody that says they have good success cleaning VW DPFs. http://www.dpfregeneration.com/
  12. I'm beginning to get a bit discouraged. I've called just about everybody I can think of. Including the local dealership... $3500... YIKES!
  13. Isn't there a type of DPF cleaner that shakes and vacuums the DPF to clean out the ash? Maybe I'm hallucinating again. Damn drain cleaner!
  14. Bruce, you're right about the screwy housing. Luckily, this vehicle has spent it's entire life on the highway, so I'm hoping to get far more that the expected life out of this DPF. I wonder if a "shaker" would work to clean it...

  16. Okay, this is a little off topic from our normal vehicles. I have recently picked up a 2010 VW Jetta TDI. I got it for an insanely good deal because it has pretty high mileage for the model year... 150,000 km. All the reading that I've been doing on this vehicle (both before and after I bought it) states the DPF needs to be changed at or around 200,000 km. I can't seem to find anybody that cleans VW DPFs. I was wondering if anybody else may have heard of anybody that does VW DPF cleaning. Thanks.
  17. The RO in question... I had never laid eyes on it prior to today... and I don't think I would have hadn't Ford called for the hardcopy to be faxed. My number did not get entered in our system as being the tech. that had done the repair, only by the warranty clerk when she submitted it to Ford. I can't help but think of the grief she has put me through in the past with trying to get paid for things... The term "irony" comes to mind.
  18. I work at a dealership that will hire anybody. Some are trained, some are not. More people fall in the "are not" category that the "are" category. They actually hire alot of "are not" because they can pay them alot less than the "are"... Now I see that they are doing jobs, and my employer is telling Ford that I did the job... Not happy. Not happy at all.
  19. So, I just got called into the warranty queen's office. As it turns out, they've put "a few" warranty claims against my number that were done by non-certified techs, and I didn't have any idea about it being done. Now, these claims are being gone over with a fine tooth comb by Ford, and they want the work-orders pulled and faxed in... They want me to sign off that I did the repairs and/or supervised the repairs and got the "apprentice" doing the repair paid. What to do? I am substantially pissed about this. It's making me wonder how many times they've done this, and could this be one of the reasons that Ford is scrutinizing so many of my repairs? What do you guys think?
  20. I just asked around to try and figure out how they managed to "sneak" it in... It turns out that every new hire in the past 5 months (other than me) was told they would have to work on Sundays. Our management has (apparently) been stalling as much as they could to avoid it, but upper management has now put the push on to be open before September.
  21. I don't know what they are thinking with this. They did not tell many people about it. It was mostly decided on the "hush". I don't know if our 3 sister stores are doing the same. One of those stores is open until midnight, I don't know if they'll fire Sundays in there too. As I said, I don't really care, it doesn't effect me. But I do think in the long run they'll have more pissed off people that satisfied, seeing that parts availability will be pretty light, as will be the talent in the shop.
  22. With oil changes, perhaps. Around here, there are no other (Ford) dealers that are open on Sundays.
