They just announced at my work that at then end of August, our service department will be open on Sundays. Not that I care, I don't work nights or weekends, but really? Sundays?

Old thread, I know... All we do here is diagnose and RE/RE, and send the unit to a transmission shop to be overhauled.

I think this may become a trend. Over the past few months, I've spoken to quite a few friends of mine that are thinking of leaving Ford for other (not necessarily greener) pastures. Everybody seems to agree that the good folks at Ford warranty are making it harder and harder to make a living. The people I'm talking about are not your average "flush-queen", and will certainly be difficult to replace. I sometimes wonder if Ford cares if they lose competent, highly skilled and trained techs, or if they just feel that's the dealers problem. Time will tell.

Depends on who you ask. I base my decision on this job by the way the exhaust bolts look. I typically do 6.4 turbos with the cab on. Worst case scenario I pull the transmission to access the inlet pipes a bit better. I don't pull cabs unless I really, really, really have to... and I'm sure I'm the only one. On edit: I'd also make sure the customer is paying for this one!

Really? I just have a cheap-o with 2 different sized ends on it. I can't remember where I got/found it. I didn't think it would be that difficult.

I've worked with quite a few service advisors in my career that did that. Coincidentally, they are also the same ones that see dollar signs light up the room when a 70 year old pensioner drives in with their 1992 Escort that has a mere 20,000 km on it, and use scare tactics to sell them every service under the sun. How long they last all seems to ride on whether or not your SM has a conscience, or sees the same dollar signs. And no, I don't use this avatar anywhere else. I don't have time to go anywhere else.

Thankfully, I don't work on LCFs at my new shop. But, I have also (in the past) seen quite a few injectors cause loss of ICP. Unfortunately it's difficult to determine which one.

He has worked at Formula too. I have spoke with him before. Seemed like a nice enough guy. A bit of a puppet, but a nice guy nonetheless. I think he's originally a GM guy.

I finally found a reason to try this job. The truck had a pretty rotten looking PTO. It worked well (enough). I still don't think I would do it again unless I run in to another reason the transmission would be difficult to remove.

As a habitual job changer, I've never found it difficult to find somebody interested in my services... I think the talent pool up in my neck of the woods is not as deep as it is in the U S of A... But, one thing that I will never do is take somebody's job. The last thing I want to do is put somebody out of work because I got tired of the scenery.

I'm glad my new dealership doesn't do Cummins. Their warranty times are really weak!
