  1. So, I posted this on PROTECH this afternoon, and I was somewhat surprised with some of the responses... "We just recieved a phone call from a customer with an E-450. He is looking for a new place to service his truck, because the dealership he had been going to for years has asked him to stop bringing it to them because it is too heavy to lift, and since they are a union shop, they can't make their technicians work on it on the floor. Nice!" I am surprised to read about how many people actually refuse to work on something because you can't hoist it... At least 50% of the stuff I work on is too heavy to lift, and I can't imagine having a job for too much longer if I were to refuse work for that reason (or any reason, really)...
  2. Has anybody compared the drive between the 6.2 and 6.7? I can't imagine why anybody that doesn't work the truck would buy the 6.7. The 6.2 pulls just as hard, costs 10K less and gets decent fuel economy... Either way, good work on both engines!
  3. Don't get Dwayne going on Mafia Wars. Don't get Dwayne going on Mafia Wars. Don't get Dwayne going on Mafia Wars.
  4. Vitron seals are much nicer to deal with. But, I have seen them leak a few times on turbo oil lines... I have never seen the copper ones leak unless they've been reused.
  5. Really? The best tuner is the one not purchased!
  6. I know it's an old thread, but I might add that I've seen a few that have the water drains leak after draining the tanks. You have to wiggle the valves to get them to stop leaking. But they'll usually drain the supply completely overnight.
  7. I've been in 6.7 training this week, and heard the same thing.
  8. If the HP fuel pump seizes, it can lead to gear train failure.
  9. Check out the fix for overheating on this thread... http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f23/cooling-fan-clutch-253100/
  10. We have an upsell "spiff" program where we get 1 dollar per wiper blade or air filter, 2 dollars per axle for brakes, coolant flush, transmission service, 3 dollars for each battery, 4 dollars per tire, 5 dollars for windshields and up to 15 dollars for body/detail work. All paid in gift cards, tax free.
  11. Use them if you have them... I don't go and grab 3 new bolts every time I R and I a turbo. Except for when they come with what ever part/kit I am installing.
  12. I've reused turbo bolts a few million times now... I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
  13. We have a few guys in the light-duty shop that like to replace modules, then diagnose what is really wrong.
  14. I hide from Jim... He kind of scares me.
  15. Last year, I had a DIY have a truck towed in for us to program a new FICM... Upon replacement of said FICM, the truck still wouldn't start... Then I got the real story... Turns out he had all the usual FICM codes, as well as P2614 and P2617. So, in the DIY world, those codes mean it needs CMP and CKP sensors, so he replaced those with no success, then replaced the FICM (not realizing it needed programming), it still wouldn't start (obviously), so he towed it in for programming. I programmed then FICM, still wouldn't start... I checked the usual no start PIDS, and it was only showing 45 RPM cranking speed, I checked the sensor resistance at the PCM, which was okay... so I was about remove the oil pan to check the tone ring, but being a manual transmission I chose to R+I the CKP sensor instead, where I found it not pushed in... Good thing it wasn't an automatic, or I'd have probably wasted my time removing the oil pan...
  16. Make sure the sensors are pushed in far enough, and not hung up on the o-rings.
  17. We sell both the Ford product and Diesel Kleen. I think we sell more Diesel Kleen than Ford.
  18. I sometimes wonder why I drink... I just put a set of injectors in an ELF today... Now I know why!
  19. We keep it good and handy. We e-mail it to anybody that comes in with an aftermarket filter. You'd be amazed how many people have no idea. We run a commercial truck event at the dealership every year, and the Power Stroke guy that has a display actually has the video running all the time he's there too.
  20. I imagine it works... quite well. Prior to these new style tubes coming out for 4.5s, we had a few that would come in on an almost semi-yearly basis with at least one blown out port-plug d-ring. Since installing the new plugs, I have yet to have a repeat HP oil leak on an LCF. I know the 4.5 oil manifolds are a little different than 6.0 manifolds, so I imagine that's why LCFs had more issues.
  21. I've never had a problem getting the down pipe out. Are you trying to do it with the transmission in place? Remove the body?? Really?? I figure the 20 minutes it takes to remove the transmission is way quicker.
  22. I took a break from the whisky, and pulled this off of INFORD... Warranty coverage for vehicles originally sold in the United States. WTY 2008-61N Published: 12/11/2008 |PRINT VERSION| The purpose of this communication is to help clarify warranty coverage for vehicles originally sold in the United States. All Service Managers, Office Managers and Warranty Administrators are requested to: Timing: Review this information with all affected dealership personnel Immediate Background In recent months there has been an increase in calls and e-mails asking for clarification of the applicable warranty coverage's for vehicles that were originally sold in the United States. Problems have arisen for dealers that are performing warranty repairs on these vehicles without first confirming the applicable coverage. These vehicles may belong to visiting owners or may now be registered in Canada. Next Steps The Warranty Hotline cannot assist with these types of requests so we have put together a list of resources that can be used to address these concerns: www.ford.com · This is the U.S. consumer facing website which provides online copies of current and prior model year warranty guides. The guides can be found by hovering over the "Owner Services" button and selecting "Customer Support". Click on "Manuals & Warranties" and choose the make and model of vehicle. U.S. Warranty Assistance Team · The U.S. WAT Hotline is set up to accept inquiries from Canadian dealers and can provide assistance with determining applicable warranty coverage's for vehicles originally sold in the United States. Their toll free phone number is 1-800-423-8851. The service is in English only. U.S. Roadside Assistance · If a vehicle was originally sold in the United States the U.S. roadside assistance centre should be contacted while the vehicle is under the new vehicle warranty coverage period. Be advised that there are some differences in coverage's for roadside assistance for U.S. vehicles (i.e. if the vehicle was originally sold as a fleet unit, no roadside assistance will apply). The dealer hotline can be reached at 1-800-367-3258. The customer contact phone number is 1-800-241-3673. As with any vehicle that is brought in for warranty service, OASIS should always be checked prior to performing any repairs! Other Information * For more detailed coverage information, review the coverage comparison chart attached below. * If the instrument cluster registers the distance traveled in miles do not convert the miles to kilometres. Enter the distance travelled in ACES II and type M for miles. If the instrument cluster has been changed it will be necessary to convert the kilometres traveled back to miles using the ratio of 1.609 km = 1 mile. * U.S. vehicles do not require instrument cluster replacement to be registered in Canada or to be eligible for New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage. If the cluster has been replaced Canadian warranty coverage still does not apply. Coverage is based on the country of origin Please forward any additional questions or comments to focwty@ford.com Gary Croxon, Warranty Communication & Prior Approval Supervisor gcroxon@ford.com |
  23. Country of origin. We actually ran into this a couple of years ago, when the dollar went par and the rush of US vehicles came to Canada. There was actually a message released from Ford stating the warranty on US vehicles was 57924km.
