  1. I've also had a few reman engines with impeller failures.
  2. The cow eats the salad... And I eat the cow!
  3. There is a guy at a dealership in a town just next to ours that does the carpet cut trick... We've gained a lot of customers that won't return there for quite a few reasons, the carpet cut being one of them.
  4. If I were to ever find out that was happening with my ID, all hell would break loose! They tried it with my Cummins certification once... once...
  5. We send them out all the time too. We actually have a clean spare in the shop so we don't have to push trucks around waiting for intakes to come back. If it's documented properly, we never have an issue getting it paid. Hotline will also tell you to clean as best as possible and only replace it if necessary.
  6. I could not agree more. On the bright side, more and more repairs are going to require technician competency, rather than shop competency... To the point that ALL warranty work is going to be technician related. My entire dealership has 2 Master Technicians, and we both work in the commercial shop. NOBODY in the car shop goes to any training... And nobody wants to. Even though they've all been given plenty of notice about the upcoming changes, nothing is being done. There are 2 or 3 Senior Technicians that are likely going to find themselves very busy with warranty work, while the rest of them mop up the maintenance gravy! There are a lot of 20+ year guys working there, and that has led to a bit of a "tail wagging the dog" situation.
  7. I am actually currently being recruited by another dealership for just this reason... Diagnostician, not trained ape, that is. Just waiting for them to show me the money... and some nice incentives... and a signing bonus... and...
  8. I did chime in... But then I deleted what I had posted. This guy is one of those super-know-it-alls on that site, and I didn't feel he deserved any advice.
  9. http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f23/6-0-looking-pine-box-rip-2003-2010-bad-motor-250250/
  10. He actually did sell the truck, and bought a Raptor. So, he can do whatever the fudge he wants to that. He belongs to the light duty shop now!
  11. I've had that happen from prior approval... "Based on the modifications listed, prior approval is not granted at this time. Recommend obtaining customer authorization for tear down and resubmit with information pertaining to the number of breach points on the headgasket(s)"... It really made my day when that happened, however, the customer declined the tear down, saying he was going to sell the truck. I resubmitted to let hotline know we were not tearing it down, and they replied that they would make a note on the vehicle's file, in case the customer attempted to take it elsewhere.
  12. Silly question... But have you checked to see if the nut and hat are still on the IPR? I've seen them come off and the IPR will slide in and out on accel and decel causing weird issues.
  13. It appears that a few of the local grocery stores have some type of shopping cart "vending machines". Basically, you put in a quarter, and get a cart. Good deal if you ask me!
  14. Ahhh... For once, Jim didn't make me feel bad! As it turns out, there was a Becker's Milk (remember them?)dairy just down the road from us. When Becker's went kaput, they shut the plant down and left hundreds upon hundreds of milk crates there in the rubble. So, that's where we got all of our milk crates... That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! But, as for all the shopping carts used in the parts department, now that's another story.
  15. Even though I take them apart in 2 and a bit hours, I still take around 6 to put them back together. My goal in doing a head gasket job on an F series is to start it first thing in the morning, and drive it out by the end of the day.
  16. But without milk in bags... You don't get the handiest tool in the shop... It can be used to store parts, carry odd items around, use it as a seat, use it to stand on when you need a little extra height, use it as a center console in your Econoline... The Milk Crate. [/img]
  17. I have finished all my Hieneken, and all that is left is my wife's Bud Light Lime... Why the hell is this donkey piss so popular???
  18. Yes there is. An idiot with a little knowledge, a computer and a video camera. Enter Bill Hewitt
  19. BTW, I said "can"... I don't do it on a regular basis, as I'm not usually in the mood to get them off that fast. Only when I have something to prove.
  20. So, after expressing my feelings about Bill Hewitt, and his lack of knowledge and wealth of incorrect information with some of the folks at The Monkey House, I decided to peruse www.powerstrokehelp.com for the first time in a while. $99 per month to subscribe to a site that is riddled with inaccuracies and biased opinions sounds a bit skunky to me. Information like... "Don't remove the plug from the high pressure oil reservoir on a 7.3 while the engine is running, because there is over 3000 psi of oil pressure in there, and it will blow all over the place"... or "The main cause of 6.0 engine failures start with high EGT causing the headgaskets to fail, which in turn will cause the oil cooler to fail, then the water from the oil cooler will get into the oil pan, then the engine will get hot and cause the EGR cooler to fail, which will then cause the oil filter to melt and cause the engine to smell bad"... and so on. Or, is that how it really happens? Maybe I just don't know how the fuck these things work. I wonder how much $$$$$ Keith could make by charging the general public for accurate information, if this guy charges what he does for inaccurate information. Rant over.
  21. Some differential tools used today "apparently" date back to the 50's.
  22. I find my ears are very useful in audibly locating weak injectors.
  23. I got into the March, 23rd course. I was (impatiently) watching the March, 3rd course filling up waiting for my STARS to update. But, on the bright side, I'm glad to not be in the first course, as I'm sure there will be a few bugs to work out with the course.
  24. We were having issues up here with STARS not updating when the WBT was done. A lot of people had to get added to the course manually. I had to. I did my WBT on the Friday it came out, and it still does not show on STARS. Perhaps I did the course too early or something... I'm enrolled in the course though.
